When you start the DOS version you'll be greeted with the copy protection screen seen above, which asks you to type a word from a randomly-generated position in the game's instruction manual, ignoring all headings. You don't actually need the manual - you just have to type anything and press .

At the start of the game a "Hero Wanted" poster will inform Spot of what he needs to do to proceed in the game. His friends have all been imprisoned and Spot needs to shoot the lock, collect 7UP beakers and 1UPs, avoid spiked balls, follow pointing gloves, and collect Cool Points and 7UP logos (worth 7 Cool Points).
