Additional aircraft can be unlocked by completing the various missions in the single player campaign. Most aircraft can be upgraded using 'upgrade points' that can be earned by completing missions. These points can be spent on the plane select screen to upgrade aircraft.

Aircraft are rated out of five for guns, armour, agility, and speed.

P-40 Warhawk[edit]

The P-40 series is the player's starting plane and has rather humble stats, especially when compared to later aircraft.

F4F Wildcat[edit]

The F4F is a solid aircraft that's surprisingly agile. It's lacking, however, in the guns department.

F4F-3 1.5 2.5 3 1.5 The Wildcat was the US workhorse in the early stages of the war. Although outclassed by the Zero in one on one combat, the Wildcat's armour made it formidable in numbers.

F4F-FM2 HVAR Rocket x6 2 3 3.5 2.5 The FM2 variant of the Wildcat sacrifices two guns in exchange for a significantly more powerful engine.

F6F Hellcat[edit]

The F6F features all around improvements on the Wildcat.

P-38 Lightning[edit]

Although not as strong as other aircraft, the Lightning is notable for carrying a large number of rockets and bombs.

F4U Corsair[edit]

A dedicated rocket plane from start to finish, the Corsair is a flexible aircraft adept at both ground attack and air combat.

F8F Bearcat[edit]

A highly impressive fighter, the Bearcat's performance is virtually unrivalled.

P-47 Thunderbolt[edit]

The predecessor to the modern A-10 Thunderbolt II, the P-47 is highly adept in the ground attack role.

P-80 Shooting Star[edit]

This aircraft is one of the few to have a full five star rating in any category. It has virtually no armour, however.

P-51 Mustang[edit]

The Mustang is a powerful all purpose fighter. Its nose art identifies the P-51A as "Fire Fight" and the P-51D as "Royal Flush".

This large twin engined fighter can also be used in bombing missions.

SBD Dauntless[edit]

The SBD Dauntless flies very sluggishly and is the only American dive bomber. It does, however, feature three 250 lb bombs that cause considerable damage against enemy ships. The catch is that the bombs will not release unless the plane is put into a dive.

TBD-1 Devastator[edit]

An unremarkable torpedo bomber, the Devastator is outclassed in virtually all areas by the Avenger.

TBF/M Avenger[edit]

A swift torpedo bomber, the TBM series packs an effective wallop against enemy ships.

B-26 Marauder[edit]

The only twin engined torpedo bomber, the B-26 flies slow but implacably towards its targets.

B-25 Mitchell[edit]

This American carpet bomber has a lot of firepower and a lot of armour, but not much else.

PBY Catalina[edit]

The Catalina is a large seaplane that is seldom used. Despite its official description, the Catalina never carries any armament aside from its guns.
