Diablo/Diablo, Lord of Terror

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

After completing the previous side quest and defeating Lazarus, when you return to level 15 you will notice that in the center of the pentagram on the floor, has opened a passage that leads to the deepest level of the labyrinth. Enter it.

Level 16, as well as Diablo's lair, is the same every time you play. As soon as you arrive, Diablo will say something incomprehensible. Then start exploring the level. Of course it's full of powerful enemies, such as Advocates, Cabalistes and many never-before-seen enemies you'll only find here, called Hell Horrors. Despite their appearance (they resemble the skeletons of the first levels), they are extremely tough and have a powerful physical attack, so be careful. By the way, they also have the annoying ability to resurrect their fallen ones, passing by them. This level is divided into four quadrants, one to the north, one to the east, one to the west and one to the south, in each of which there is a more or less square area. At first, only the northern area is open, while the others are inaccessible. Before heading to the only open area, however, it is certainly advisable to explore the rest of the level and eliminate all the enemies present, to simplify things later.

Once you've cleared it, head carefully to the north quadrant. Be careful, because a horde of enemies awaits you here: if you advance too fast, you risk finding yourself surrounded and taking excessive damage. Then move in order to attract the enemies towards you and face them a little at a time. After defeating them all, you will find a lever in the center of this area. Pull it and the area in the east quadrant will become accessible. Go to the place. This area is spiral-shaped (you can enter it from the southeast). Here too, proceed with caution, being careful not to be surrounded by enemies in the narrow passage. In the center of the area you will find another lever. Pull it to make the area to the west accessible. Here too, you will find a horde of powerful enemies. Act as you did for the first area, to eliminate them a little at a time. Here too the things to do are the same, the only difference is that here there are two levers. Before pulling them, it is certainly advisable to check your inventory and go to the town to get supplies, because you are about to face the final battle and therefore you should prepare yourself well. Also make sure you have full Life and Mana. Finally, pull both levers to open the last area, the one to the south.

Proceed slowly southeast. When you get close, you will see a horde of enemies even worse than the ones you have already eliminated. Among them you will easily identify Diablo himself. Try to draw him towards you, backing away, so you don't have to deal with all the other annoying enemies as well. However, always keep an eye on your life energy and do not hesitate to heal yourself when it gets low, because Diablo's attacks are very powerful. In fact, Diablo continuously casts Apocalypse, causing you massive damage from a distance. You cannot defend yourself from this attack in any way. Maybe even keep another Town Portal already, to be able to take refuge in Tristam and make other purchases if things go badly. You take on Diablo like any other tough enemy. If you play as the Sorcerer, storm him with your most powerful spells, such as Fireball, Chain Lightning and Golem. If you are a Rogue, stud him with arrows, perhaps using some support spell. If you control the Warrior, unsheath your most powerful axe, stand on him and slice him mercilessly, always keeping an eye on your life energy. Diablo does not have particular resistances and immunity to the elements, however Stone Curse does not work on him and therefore you cannot paralyze him. When you've dealt enough damage to him, Diablo will burst, with a geyser of blood and you can watch the end of the game. Well done!
