Phantom Lancer is a melee agility hero who is usually played as a hard carry and a pusher. In addition to having the highest agility growth of any hero, which grants him more base damage than most other heroes, all his abilities create illusions, which makes fights against Phantom Lancer very confusing. His Spirit Lance can be used to harass or catch up to enemies, creating an illusion just to annoy his target. He is quite elusive due to Doppelwalk, and enemies thinking they have him cornered will only dicover that the remaining lancer is merely another illusion. His Juxtapose lets him create illusions merely by attacking, which lets him overwhelm his enemies as a fight drags on. His ultimate, Phantom Edge, turns this illusion creation feature into a ridiculous ability, spawning illusions from illusions. Phantom Lancer is a hero already blessed with great damage, but with the help of his illusions, he can be almost unstoppable.

Abilities[edit]

Spirit Lance[edit]

Dota 2 phantom lancer spirit lance.png
  • Ability: Target Unit
  • Affects: Enemy Heroes
  • Damage Type: Magical
  • Damage: 100 / 150 / 200 / 250
  • Slow Duration: 3.25
  • Movement Slow: 10% / 20% / 30% / 40%
  • Illusion Duration: 2 / 4 / 6 / 8
  • Illusion Bonus Damage Taken: 300%
  • Illusion Damage Dealt: 20%
  • Mana Cost: 125 / 130 / 135 / 140
  • Cooldown: 7

Spirit Lance throws a lance at the target, slowing it and dealing damage as well as creating an illusion next to the target. It is very effective at annoying enemies, since they will usually take additional damage from the illusion, or have to waste a few attacks on an obvious illusion. It is also useful for slowing down enemy heroes so you can catch up to them. When used at close range, especially with a group of other illusions, it can make it even harder to tell you from the fakes.

Doppelwalk[edit]

Dota 2 phantom lancer doppelwalk.png
  • Ability: No Target
  • Duration: 8
  • Bonus Movement Speed: 15%
  • Illusion Duration: 20
  • Illusion Bonus Damage Taken: 300%
  • Illusion Damage Dealt: 20%
  • Mana Cost: 150 / 120 / 90 / 60
  • Cooldown: 30 / 25 / 20 / 15

Doppelwalk makes you invisible and gives you bonus move speed, leaving an illusion in your place. It is an effective escape mechanism, especially if there are no other illusions and you're already running for your life. The illusion substitution is almost unnoticeable, and can actually cause enemies to waste a few spells on it. You can also use it while among other illusions to reposition yourself.

Juxtapose[edit]

Dota 2 phantom lancer juxtapose.png
  • Ability: Passive
  • Chance: 12%
  • Max Illusions: 2 / 4 / 6 / 8
  • Illusion Duration: 20
  • Illusion Bonus Damage Taken: 350%
  • Illusion Damage Dealt: 20%

Juxtapose gives you a chance to create illusions when attacking. This means that you can get illusions by simply last-hitting creeps or attacking enemies. The illusions will slowly increase your damage output, especially when you focus on one hero, and soon they will be overwhelmed by illusions.

Phantom Edge[edit]

Dota 2 phantom lancer phantom edge.png
  • Ability: Passive
  • Magic Resistance: 10% / 15% / 20%
  • Illusion Duplicate Chance: 3% / 5% / 7%
  • Juxtapose Chance Bonus: 2% / 4% / 6%

Phantom Edge increases the chance of Juxtopose proccing and lets you create illusions out of Juxtapose illusions. It also increases your magic resistance. Like every one of your spells, it makes it even harder to attack the real you. The increased chance means you can generate more illusions faster. The magic resistance is also useful because one of your greatest weaknesses is strong AoE abilities that wipe out your illusions, so it can make them more resistant against these types of spells.
