Once you have pressed the Rotating Button to confirm that you want to play in Normal Mode, the three-script text Reberu-sa erabō (レベルさ選ぼう) will be displayed at the top of the screen, and you will have ten seconds to choose between Shōkyū (初級) level (0), Chūkyū (中級) level (20), and Jōkyū (上級) level (40) by pushing your joystick up and down, then pressing the Rotating Button to confirm your choice; if you select Shōkyū level, the three-script text Reberu 20 de oshimai! (レベル20でおしまい!) will appear at the top of the screen, meaning that your game will automatically end once it has reached speed level 20. If, however, you select Chūkyū level, you will start with 1000000 points - and if you select Jōkyū level, you will start with 3000000. Game pieces will then start falling down from the top of the screen; the first time one of them begins flashing to indicate which blocks will crack, the three-script text Shiroku hikatte iru no ga kuzuseru kyūbuda! (白く光っているのがくずせるキューブだ!) will appear on the screen. Whenever you crush a block, the text "CRUSH X, CHAIN X" will appear in the display in the centre of the screen, X being the numbers of blocks you crushed and chain reactions you caused; if you have chosen to play on Chūkyū (or Jōkyū) level, the edge of the "NEXT" box will fill up every time you crush a block. Once it is completely filled, a Star will fall down from the top of the screen, then eliminate every block of one colour from the screen when it lands - and the first time this happens, the three-script text Sutā da! Keshitai iro no ue ni otose! (スターだ! けしたい色の上におとせ!), will appear on the screen. If, however, you have chosen to play on Shōkyū level, this will only happen when your screen is almost filled to the top and again once it has reached speed level 20 (in the case of the latter, eliminating every block from the screen before Minto comes up into view from the bottom of the screen with the three-script text Shōkyū kuria omedetō!! (初級クリアおめでとう!!) above him. The three-script text of Tsugi ha chūkyū· jōkyū ni charenjida!! (次は中級・上級にチャレンジだ!!) will then appear below him, before the game goes into high-score mode - however, on Chūkyū and Jōkyū level, your game will continue until the screen is filled to the top. It is also worth noting that as with Cosmo Gang: The Puzzle (in which the Stars originated), this game forbids the initials "AAAAAA" on its high score tables, and if you try to enter it, it will be changed to one of the following references to older Namco games, some of which were added specifically for this title:
