Boss battle: Fenrir

This is the first major boss battle of Etrian Odyssey. As a boss he will have an aura on the screen like a standard wandering monster. Unlike the normal orange or red auras a boss will have a black one. Be weary of a boss’ strength and prepare properly before initiating combat. Once you beat the troublesome Fenrir not only will you have finished the mission, The terror of Fenrir, but you will now have access to a new stratum.

While witling away Fenrir’s HP the wolves close by will move closer to you with each passing turn of combat. Once they get close enough to move into your square they will join the battle. They will join in one turn at a time.

If your party can not easily endure more than 1 attack per turn then focus your attacks on the new coming wolves one at a time. They are much weaker then their leader Fenrir and should fall within a few turns if the entire party focuses on them. However if Fenrir is incredibly close to dying or your party can endure many strong opponents at once then continue focusing on bringing down the boss.

Once Fenrir is defeated the wolves surrounding you on the map as wandering monsters will disappear. If any entered battle with you before Fenrir died then you will still have to finish off these remaining enemies. To the north of where Fenrir was will be stairs leading downward. Right in front of the stairs on the new level will be a special object that will let you teleport back to town for free (it will be a pink icon on the map).

Tip for future training

Bosses are just like normal wandering monsters. After a few days have passed they will re-spawn and you can fight them again. It is worth it to go back every now and then to re-fight the main boss battles since they are worth decent experience and tend to drop valuable pieces of loot that sell for a lot of en or could unlock new stronger equipment.
