One of the other cool things you can do in Fable is being a land baron. You can buy any empty house you come across, and if it isn't empty you can make it empty by killing its inhabitants.

To obtain the buildings in Bowerstone, you will need to have a merc with you and go hostile on the town, he will have to kill the people for you.
