Ganbare Goemon 2/Stage 7: Kanto

The seventh stage of the game takes place in the region of Kanto. The Kantō region is the geographical area of Honshu, the largest island of Japan, which includes the Greater Tokyo Area. A couple of things set this stage apart. For one, there are no passes to obtain. There are no underground passages, and there is no exit either. Instead, your goal here is to reach Edo Castle and explore it. You will not advance to the next stage until you locate the lord of the castle.

Hidden extra life

Between door P and the white sign to the left are two trees. Shoot directly in between the trees to make an extra life appear. Jump up to collect it.

S	Dungeon Entrance: 400 Exploring this dungeon isn't necessary. It costs 400 Ryo to enter, and after exploring it, you will be just 100 Ryo richer. Compared to the dungeon of the previous stage, it's incredibly simple. You get the map very easily, very early on. It simply snakes quite a bit before you finally reach the exit.

Section 6

In this short vertical section, you cross a bridge that connects Section 5 with Section 7. The bridge will be quite crowded with guards and other enemies that will attack you along the way. Head straight up, stopping only to attack anyone who is in your way.

There are no more shops or houses for you to explore until you reach the interior of the castle, so if you need anything, you should go back and make your purchases before you continue.

Only the second door from the left leads to the interior of the castle. The remaining doors send you to a different door somewhere else in the same section. Enter through the door marked with the red h label to enter the first floor.

Edo Castle

Once you're in the castle, your goal is to make it from the first floor up to the third floor where the lord of the castle is waiting. Along the way, there are a few doors which you can open. Some will contain shops, others will contain stairs to the next floor, and one door contains a man who will upgrade your weapon for you. Since there are no gourds to jump over, there's no way to obtain a Lucky Cat, so this helpful person is the only way to improve your offense.

Be careful as you make your way across the third floor; this is the only floor you will find any women, so if you shoot indiscriminately, you are likely to hit one and lose Ryo.

Your goal is to make it to door Y on the right. When you enter, he will say the following:

I am the lord of this castle. I am impressed you got this far, but… This isn't Karakuri Castle!! It's further up north! Disappointing, isn't it? Hahaha… hahaha… …so are you going to save me or what?

At that point, Goemon (and Ebisumaru if he is present) will start beating on the lord. Then the game will explain that Goemon continues on his journey, and you must press to continue.
