Basic techniques[edit]

Guard
While holding either a sword or kodachi, press the guard key to deflect enemy bullets or melee attacks. This does not protect the lower half of the body.
Vertical Wallrun
While running straight against a wall, press jump; the player must have sufficient forward momentum, although they do not have to be holding forward in order to execute this technique.
Horizontal Wallrun
While running at about a 15 to 45 degree angle to a wall, press jump; the player must have sufficient forward momentum, although they do not have to be holding forward in order to execute this technique.
Wall Jump
While in the air next to a wall press jump.
Wall Hang
While in the air next to a wall and equipped with a melee weapon press and hold right click to cling to the wall. Hold forward and jump again while holding right click to scale the wall.
Safe Fall
While being uppercutted into the air, tap jump to recover and land upright.
Tumble
With a ranged weapon equipped double tap forward, sideways, or back to perform a tumble in that direction.
Dash
With a melee weapon equipped double tap forward, sideways, or back to dash in that direction.

Effective custom control set ups[edit]

In GunZ, your key setup later on is not extremely important, but when learning how to play, it makes a big difference. As a note, try not to use the scroll wheel or Next/previous weapon buttons to switch weapons, as it has a slight delay on the speed of weapon switching in some techniques. Other than that, mix and match these button combinations to suit your preferences.

Note that this control setup will not work well if you are using an ergonomic keyboard (for example the H key will not be easily accessible).

Put your hand in a typing position (pinky should go on A, ring should go on S, etc.). Use your index finger to switch weapons, to block and to reload. In specical cases where two weapons must be switched through quickly, use the middle finger to hit C while using the index finger to hit F. With any applicable technique, slide your finger across keys instead of tapping one key, releasing, and tapping a key right next to it. For reload shot when switching to another gun, place your middle finger on R and use your index finger to switch to the second gun.
