Before starting the battle, it's recommended that you equip the Champion Belt, helping to reduce the amount of damage taken from Axel's attacks, and the amount of health drained from standing on the floor.

The majority of the combos done with the Keyblades will throw Axel into the air, which is a perfect time to pull off the "Overtake/Clear Light" combo. Although it doesn't cause any direct damage, it does cause the fire floor to disappear, and for Axel to be stuned momentarily.

Revision as of 13:21, 15 October 2009

Day One

Battle Level: 01 Recommended Stats: lv1

After a long series of beginning cutscenes, start by walking up to Roxas' crew by using the Neutral lstick stick, and after that walk up to the lady at the accessory shop. Lock on (R1 button) to the cat, and some cutscenes will ensue.

You are presented with three weapons -- each of which you can use the appropriate Reaction Command (Triangle button, hereafter referred to as RC) to select, and each of which gives Roxas a stat boost, as follows (right to left):

  • Normal Struggle Bat: +1 Attack.
  • Guard Bat (lit. stick with hand guard): +1 Defense.
  • Staff: +1 Magic.

Seifer

For the first encounter, all you have to do is a basic combo with finisher.

For the second battle, whack at him until he's dead (about thirteen hits). Lock on to keep track of his movements. Sometimes, he'll do a double-strike attack, so keep your distance occasionally. Other times, he will jump up into the air and yell "Isn't this romantic!" before striking you. This can easily be dodged.

After that, follow the Nobody to The Old Mansion, and perform the RC on the Nobody. A small cutscene ensues.

Dusk

Go ahead and try to attack the Dusk -- it's not going to work. You can also get the feel for RCing in battle with the Reversal" option. This disorientates the creature, allowing you to get free hits.

Eventually (after a certain period of time, or you lose 25% of your HP), a cutscene will show, and Roxas will gain possession of the Kingdom Key. Use this to finish off the Dusk, and remember to Slide Turn to avoid the Dusk's attacks. It takes eight hits to finish the Dusk off.

You'll lose the Keyblade in the next cutscene, unfortunately. Onto Day Two, but not after a bunch of cutscenes and another flashback.

Day Two

The Usual Spot

You'll start off in The Usual Spot -- take note that you can finally save. Go over to it and RC to save. Players stingy with their data usage should take note that a typical KHII save takes 87KB, which is small enough to merit a save per world on a blank/dedicated KH2 memory card in case you want to revisit any story aspects.

A cutscene will place you in the Back Alley, where you will obtain the Twilight Town Map, which produces a map in the upper-right corner of the screen. When you have control again, you can RC to use the skateboard to the right of you. Take the path to your left towards Market Street. You can now check the boards for some part-time jobs to earn munny with, as follows:

Letter Delivery

The aim of this mini-game is to deliver 5 letters to 5 different recipiants. As you pass by the people (and random birds) on your skateboard, RC to deliver them a letter. To get to the second bird, you have to grind the rail with RC to reach the second bird.

Munny earnings:

  • <20 seconds = 50
  • >20 - <60 seconds = 30
  • >60 seconds = 10

Luggage Transfer

Attack the cart (uphill, that is) into the garage by using combos. If you manage to get a full combo off, then the cart will leap up into the air. This is your opportunity to do an air combo, and push the cart a massive distance. To help make this even easier, lock onto the cart, and try and stay behind it at all times, so that it doesn't serverly swerve to the left or right.

Munny earnings:

  • <30 seconds = 50
  • >30 - <60 seconds = 30
  • >60 seconds = 10

Performance at the Station Heights

Juggle the ball with your weapon of choice, with whatever combos you can throw at it. The game will keep track of your high score. You have 5 attempts, and the attempt with the highest score will be the one that gets you the Munny. A good tip is to lock onto the ball as soon as possible, so that you can't lose sight of it.

Munny earnings:

  • 20+ combos = 50
  • 5 - 19 combos = 30
  • 0 - 4 combos = 10

Poster Pasting

Find spots on the walls to paste posters using RCs. The easiest route is shown in the video to the right.

Kingdom Hearts 2 - Poster Duty with Roxas (1:20)
The easiest way of completing "Poster Duty" with Roxas under 1 min 30 secs

Munny earnings:

  • <1:30 minutes = 100
  • >1:30 - <2:30 minutes = 50
  • >2:30 minutes = 30

Bee Extermination

Kill the bees with your weapon of choice. Remember to lock on, of course, as soon as you have destroyed one of the drones. Not much strategy is required here.

Munny earnings:

  • <20 seconds = 50
  • >20 - <60 seconds = 30
  • >60 seconds = 10

Junk Cleaning

Attack the junk to clear it from the field. You can also hit junk into each other for a more effective cleaning. Note that there is no time limit to worry about, and bumping against a box doesn't count as a swing. Therefore, you can gently move the boxes next to each other, and then hit a box to destroy all of them at once, thus inceasing the amount of munny you can receive.

Munny earnings:

  • 0 - 10 swings = 50
  • 11 - 15 swings = 30
  • 15+ swings = 10

You need only do one of the six tasks, and earned at least 50 munny, but the game gives AP bonuses for acquiring enough munny - 1 AP for 800 Munny in total (650 earned), and 2 AP for approximately 1200 Munny in total (1,050 earned). You'll know you've reached it when the game takes you to the next cutscene automatically (at 2,000 Munny earned). However, if you just want to carry on the story when you want to, then talk to Heiner in the Station Plaza.

You'll acquire the Munny Pouch for your efforts. However, in the cutscene, it's stolern from you by a mysterious person, and the day ends with yet more flashbacks to the first game.

Day Three

Meet your friends. After some odd cutscenes, prepare to defend yourself against a Dusk. Do what you did on Day One (attack it ineffectivly), and a cutscene will soon follow.

Dive into the Heart

Station of Serenity

When you have control again, use the RC to select between the sword, shield, and wand, which stand for Attack, Defense, and Magic respectively. If you press Select to switch to First-Person Mode and look around, you can see the Dusks just waiting there. For more information about the abilities you'll lean from each weapon at what level, check out the Abilities page.

Once you've made the very important choice, you'll acquire the Keyblade, and then the Dusks will attack you. It's exactly the same as before...except now there's three of them. There's nothing to worry about, however, just use "Reversal" and you'll get free attacks. You'll get the Air Recover ability for your efforts.

A door appears, along with another save point. Look around, and you'll find a chest, which happens to contain a Potion. Take the time to equip your items and your new ability if you haven't done so already (Start button button to access the menu).

Station of Calling

Go up the stairs. Fight yet more Dusks. Go up some more stairs to the door. This is a good opportunity to get Roxas ready for the battle ahead. This is a very good time to gain a few levels (up to a maximum of 4 for the minute, at least for the Scan ability). The Dusks respawn every time you leave the area, and they give out decent experiance for this point of the game.

Also, don't use your Potions just yet, as they should be saved for the boss coming up ahead. Instead, use the savepoint found in the Station of Serenity, which fully heals you to your maximum HP.

Once you feel you're ready, heal, save, then open the door to the Station of Awakening to face the game's first boss.

Twilight Thorn

  • HP: 300
  • Strength: 5
  • Defence: 2
Reacion Command Avaliable Strength
Key Counter When Twilight Thorn is about to grab Roxas 200%
Lunarsault After Roxas has been thrown up into the air 200%
Break Raid When Roxas is heading towards the massive ball of energy 400%
Reversal When the white lightning attacks appear N/A
Kingdom Hearts II: Roxas VS. Twilight Thorn (6:26)
Twilight Thorn with pre- and post-battle cutscenes

The fight will start with you paralyzed in the air. Perform RCs at the appropriate times to counter and cause damage to it. The Nobody will disappear into the darkness, only to topple the platform and do another cool-looking RC-counterable attack. Afterwards, it will slam onto the platform, stunning it for a short period, allowing you to attack its head (the creature's only weak point).

Then the main phase of its attacks starts. Avoid the white thunder attacks by RCing and by using "Reversal", hitting its head whenever you can. You also have to contend will Dusks appearing and doing unnecessary damage, so kill them off as soon as possible. They drop HP ball, making it very easy to keep your health up. Eventually, the fight will repeat itself, resulting (hopefully) in you winning the fight. Use a Potion if you need to.

If you have Scan avaliable and equiped, you can see how many damage you've done to the boss already.

Bonus' gained:

  • HP +5
  • Reflect Guard

After the battle, numerous cutscenes take you towards Day Four of the Prologue.

Day Four

Today, you are forced into doing the Struggle Tournament. Before that, however, you have the chance to do the mini-games that you did on Day Two. This can be used to earn some extra Munny for any Potions you might want from the Item Shop.

Item Shop:

  • Potion: 40 Munny
  • Tent: 100 Munny

If you wish, you can also fight Seifer again in the "Back Alley". He definatly shouldn't be too difficult to defeat, and he'll give out 13 Experiance each time. To fight him again, simply leave the area and re-enter.

Once you have finished doing anything extra, talk to guy next to the blackboard, and listern to the rules. Afterwards, you'll fight against Hayner.

In case you weren't paying attention before, the aim of the following battles is to try and get more points than your opponant; within the 1 minute time limit. The balls will drop out every time you hit the opponant, and you simply have to go over them to pick the balls up.

The battle against Hayner should be very easy. All he has is a simple lunge attack, and basic ground and air combos - nothing fancy. After you beat Hayner, you'll have to fight Vivi. He has wide reaching attacks when his club glows white and grows massive. His other attacks are fairly fast, but predictable to see coming by the way he stands.

Once you beat Vivi, a cutscene will happen, and you'll have to fight three Dusks. You should be used to fighting them by now, so there shouldn't be any problems. Afterwards, another cutscene will occur, and you'll have to fight Axel.

Axel

  • HP: 105
  • Strength: 5
  • Defence: 2
Kingdom hearts 2 - Axel First battle (3:17)
Axel Fight 1 with pre- and post-battle cutscenes

Axel fights you by using his chakrams and the fire element. He can set his chakrams alight and slash them at you for high damage (especially in Proud Mode). Suprisingly, he doesn't have a large range, so if you jump back when you see him start an attack, you won't be hit. As the battle goes in, you'll see him crouch from exhaustion, so use that opportunity to get in free attacks. Use any Potions you have as required.

You get nothing for defeating him, and after yet another cutscene, you'll have to fight Setzer in the Struggle Tounament. The majority of the time, he will stand around and say stupid comments like "My life is a chip in your pile. Time to ante up.". You can receive two prizes from him, depending on whether you win or lose. For winning, you receive the Champion Belt (+ 20% to Fire, Blizzard and Thunder each). For losing, you'll only receive a Medal (+ 1 Strength). Either way, you'll get the Struggle Trophy, which will be prompty lost during the cutscene.

Day Five

Today, you have to find the "Seven Wonders of Twilight Town". You do this, head over to the Central Station, and take the train to Sunset Terrace. In the following cutscene, the first wonder will be debunked, leaving only four to solve. Before doing so, however, you might be interested in the treasures scattered about the area:

Treasure List (Sunset Terrace):

  • Ability Ring = Jump onto the top of the southern tram by using the reaction command twice. The chest will be on the roof of a building.
  • Potion = Drop down to the nearby tree from the last chest
  • Potion = Near the western exit, near the path leading to Sunset Hill
  • Hi-Potion = Go down the steps from the last treasure, and it will be straight ahead.

The following wonders can be done in any order. They are done this way for convieniance. If at any time you get lost to where a wonder is, talk to Pence, and he will bring up a map with the wonder's listed, with a big tick through them if they have already been completed:

  • One of the wonders is in an alley near Hayner. At the end, press the RC button to start the event. The aim of this wonder is to dodge the balls that come out of the wall, and press the RC button again. If you get hit by a ball, you will be propelled backwards a large distance.
  • Another wonder is in the south-west cormer of the map (where the waterfall is). After pressing the relevent button, a shadow doppelganger will appear. The fight is simple enough, as the show has the same moveset as you do, but moves and reacts much slower. Therefore, it should be easily possible to pull off a combo, step backwards whilst it does its combo, then pull off another combo.
  • The third wonder is accessible by going down a tunnel near the exit to Sunset Hill. Lots of Vivi's will appear (18 in total). Fortunatly for you, they only have 1 HP each, so one hit from the Keyblade will easily destroy them. You shouldn't need to use any Potions.
  • The final wonder is on Sunset Hill. Go to the top and you will see three random dustbins and a large bag. Inspect the bag, and the mini-game will begin. The aim is to get the bag's stamina (shown as a bar to the top right) down to zero. This is done by pressing the RC button at the right time to jump over the strategically placed dustbins.

After the final wonder has been completed, head back towards Sunset Hill, and a cutscene will be triggered, disbunking rumour No. 6. Once you arrive back in Market Street, head towards the woods and through them to get to the Old Mansion. After some cutscenes, the day will end.

Of note is that there are some trasures in Central Station:

  • Potion = In the far south west corner as you enter from the Station Plaza
  • Potion = In the far north east corner of the station
  • Hi-Potion = Between the two trains

Day Six

The last Day of the Prologue begins with you fighting yet more Dusks. After they have been beaten into oblivion, Axel will summon Assassin Nobodies. These are trickier then the normal Dusks, as they can disappear into the ground (although you can see their fin, your attacks at them whilst in that state won't deal any damage), and then suddenly rise up below Roxas to deal six rapid attacks, dealing lots of damage. After defeating them, a mysterious voice will call Roxas to the Old Mansion. Make your way there, whist also fighting (or avoiding) the buch of Dusks that try to stop your progress.

The Old Mansion

Treasure List:

  • Hi-Potion = On the ground floor, next to the right set of windows
  • Elven Bandana = In the "Dining Room", which is accessed via a door to the left on the ground floor
  • Potion = Same place as above
  • Potion = Climb up the left set of steps, and it will be half-way up them
  • Potion = First floor landing, about half-way between the two sets of steps
  • Hi-Potion = In the "Library"

The Dusks will continue to impeed your progress. This is a good time to gain a couple of levels for the boss fight ahead, as there is a Save Point nearby. Once you've had your share of fighting, head up to the first floor, and go towards the door on the left side of the building. After some cutscenes explaining Roxas' background, you'll receive Naminé's Sketches and the Mansion Map. Now, head towards the "Library" on the righthandside of the building, and complete the sketch using the RC button. Fight the enemies and pick up the Hi-potion. Make sure that you save your game, then head through the door. You will fight more Dusks and Assassins. After they're defeated, you'll have to fight a boss.

Axel (2nd)

  • HP: 345
  • Strength: 6
  • Defence: 2
Reacion Command Avaliable Strength
Burst Edge When Axel appears out of the fire wall, comes up as a counter attack. Causes 3 hits total. 200%
Overtaker Appears when Roxas pulls off an air combo against Axel. N/A
Clear Light Immejectly after "Overtaker", slams Axel to the floor; if the floor is on fire, this attack will cause it to disappear. N/A
Roxas VS Axel (4:39)
Axel Fight 2 with pre- and post-battle cutscenes, including fight with Dusks and Assassins

This is the last battle befoe the prologue ends. As shown in the cutscene beforehand, Roxas gets two Keyblades for this battle. As soon as the battle starts, Axel will cause the floor to go on fire! This has the obvious effect of draining you HP, so use Potions to keep it up if it gets low.

Axel's attacks include thowing his firey chakrams at you very rapidly for large damage, and disappearing into the fire wall, with no indication of where he is. However, a good tip is to lock onto him using the R1 button button. That way, you have a chance to guard his attack, and strike back with "Burst Edge". Overall, this shouldn't be a very difficult battle.

Bonuses gained:

  • HP +5

After besting him, Axel disappears and leaves Roxas a bit confused. Go back and save your game if you wish, and then continue into the "Basement Corridor". Here, you can find a Hi-Potion, as well as lots of strange pods, two of which contain Donald and Goofy.

Carry on to the "Pod Room", where, after a convosation with DiZ, Roxas will disappear, and you'll finally see the title screen for this game.
