Template:Series disambig Lupin III (ルパン三世, literally Rupan Sansei), is an arcade game, which had been released by Taito Corporation, in 1980; it utilizes an Intel 8080 microprocessor (which runs up at 2 MHz), with discrete circuitry and a Texas Instruments SN-76477 for sound. It is based on the long-running manga of the same name (that had first appeared in "Manga Action" in 1967) - a 23-episode television series was made in 1971 and another 155-episode television series was made in 1977. Two movies, "Lupin vs. the Clones" and "The Castle of Cagliostro", were also made in 1978 and 1979 respectively; footage from them was later used to make the Stern Electronics laserdisc video game Cliff Hanger, in 1983.

The player must take control of the eponymous Lupin, who is coloured yellow in the game and trying to steal bags of money, for his girlfriend; he can take up to two of the eight money bags at the top of the screen at a time (however, if he takes a second bag, his speed shall be reduced), then try to get them down to the bottom of the screen without getting caught by the white inspectors, green guards, and magenta Alsatians. If Lupin is trapped, you can press the "Magic" Button, to make him teleport - however, if you do this, he could end up in a worse situation than before. Your "M. ENERGY" bonus (which begins at 2000) will also decrease by 500 points every time you do it and it can only be used four times as a result; once you get all eight money bags down, to the bottom of the screen, you will receive your remaining time, which starts at 4000, as bonus points. Lupin will then go off to meet his girlfriend who tells him to steal some more money - and that is exactly what he does. On the second stage, a second Alsatian shall be added and on the third stage they will increase their speed; on the fourth stage another guard will be added, and in the sixth stage another inspector will be added. On the ninth stage, the inspectors will increase their speed - and Lupin will receive an extra life, at 3000 points by default. Once he runs out of lives, you will see a cutscene of Lupin getting carted off to jail.
