Root Abyss was released in GMS on January 15th, 2013. Players over level 125 receive a lightbulb notification for the starting quest. If you cleared all the quests, at Level 180, you can enter the Neglected Garden which acts as a training spot. It is a mini dungeon, so nobody will interfere with you. However, there is a one hour time limit every entry. You can enter unlimited times.

General rules
  • At level 125, you can challenge the Normal Mode bosses. To challenge the Chaos mode bosses, you need to be level 180 or higher and has killed that respective Normal Mode boss for 10 times to enter the Chaos mode of that boss.
  • You can enter unlimited times but you need a Deadwood key every time. You can buy from the key merchant for 100,000 meso each or with 1 green rune dropped by Normal mode bosses for 2 keys.
  • You can kill the boss only once daily. If you killed it for the day you cannot enter the same boss for that day. (1 week cooldown for Chaos mode bosses instead of 1 day)
General drops
  • Green / Blue rune (Normal / Chaos mode respectively)
  • Occult Cubes
  • Crusader coins

Von Bon.

The rooster/chicken guy. There is an 8 minute timer for this fight in Normal mode and 15 minutes for Chaos mode. If it reaches zero your party will die.

Strategy

Make him walk towards the clocks he drops. When they have black dials, they increase your time by 6 seconds (maximum 8 minute time left at any time for Normal mode, 15 minutes for Chaos mode.) When they have white dials, your time decreases by 8 seconds (which is bad). Make sure to have a ton of Ginger potions to keep your HP high or full. His projectile shot does about 60% damage (100% in chaos mode), and he does have a move that almost instantly kills you when he jumps up after blinking and smacks the floor down. It actually does 90% damage in normal mode (100% in chaos mode). Keep your HP as full as possible.

Tips
  • Stay away from the white clocks as they reduce the timer, go in the black clocks as they extended the timer
  • Dodge his projectile attack by jumping it or crouching under it. It's easy to become stunned by the blast and then hit by his 90% jump attack, resulting in instant death if a full health potion isn't used quick enough in normal mode.
  • In Chaos mode, when HP <45%, clocks stop spawning and he will spawn inner world portal instead. Enter the portal and kill the inner world Von Bon (within 20 seconds, else everyone will automatically die, including those at the garden map) Inner world map does 20% damage per 2 seconds. Inner world Von Bon can deal 70% damage normal attack and seals your skills.
  • In Chaos mode, when HP <10%, he will do flapping skill that superknockbacks everyone around him for 50% damage per half second. Bombs also drop from the sky (30% for green, 50% for blue, 100% for red).
  • Just dodge as much of his moves in general, they hit % HP and ignore guards and avoid.

MS Mob Icon Crimson Queen.pngCrimson Queen

Default face.
Alluring Mirror. Destroy it quickly!

The Crimson Queen fight is simple, but it is very easy to die. The mechanic here is that she has multiple faces that indicate her behavior and what you need to do to counter her.

General details and stats

Normal Mode

Time limit: 15 minutes

  • HP: 315,000,000
  • Level 120
  • DEF 50%
  • EXP 220,000 (Chatlog EXP)
  • Resists all elements
Chaos mode

Time limit: 20 minutes

  • HP:140,000,000,000
  • Level 190
  • DEF 120%
  • EXP 2,100,000 (Chatlog EXP)
  • Resists all elements.

Faces

  • All faces: she'll do a melee range claw swipe that will inflict a certain status effect depending on which face. You can stay behind her or at a distance to avoid these attacks.
  • Default (angry) face (avoid and attack): charges up a purple breath attack for about 2-3 seconds that will deal heavy damage that is inversely proportional to number of members hit by the breath (50,000 damage for Normal, 80,000 damage for Chaos, assuming only 1 person is hit). It has a really long range. You must avoid it by going behind her. The trick here is to stay out of melee range, but don't stay too far away or she'll trap you in a corner, or if the party size is big enough everyone just cluster together and get hit to reduce the damage. In Chaos mode, she can create a burning aura around you that hits 4,000 damage per second (can be stacked up till 3 times for 12,000 damage per second), you must get hit by the breath skill to remove the burning aura. If party members sre around the burning aura, they also get damaged at the same rate as the strongest aura wihin their range. When she does her normal whacking, it can cause area blind.
  • Winking face (avoid her and destroy mirror): she'll seduce someone into running into her mirror. If you don't break the mirror quickly, the seduced person will instantly die and she will be healed back considerably. Her whacking attack causes skill seal. In Chaos mode, she can spawn exploding hearts that hits 50% upon explosion per heart.
  • Smiling face (avoid and attack): she'll summon purple holes that will continuously suck you in and do damage. In chaos mode, she can suck you towards her and if you touch her while she is sucking you towards her, you instantly die. Her whacking skill causes reversing keys.
  • Bleeding tears face (do not attack): she'll summon a red shield around herself. Any damage dealt to her at this time will be reflected back until the red shield goes away. In chaos mode she can inflict Advanced Zombify (even potions will damage you in this zombify by half of the amount it is supposed to recover, unlike the standard zombify) Her whacking skill causes poison.

MS Mob Icon Pierre.pngMS Mob Icon Red Pierre.pngMS Mob Icon Blue Pierre.pngPierre

Pierre, purple/normal.

For Pierre the clown, do not attack him if the crown on your head matches his (otherwise he will be healed). When he is spamming the fire move, the person that is targeted should move away. Everyone else that does not have the same crown as Pierre should attack. You do full damage while he is doing this fire attack. When he blinks and disappears for a second, keep jumping away from him or he will use a hammer-like attack that will kill you instantly.

General details and stats

Normal mode

Time limit: 15 minutes

  • HP: 315,000,000
  • Level 120
  • DEF 50%
  • EXP 220,000 (Chatlog EXP)
  • Resists all elements.
Chaos mode

Time limit: 20 minutes

  • HP: 80,000,000,000
  • Level 190
  • DEF 80%
  • EXP 2,100,000 (Chatlog EXP)
  • Resists all elements.

Two person strategy (duo)

Teamwork here is essential, otherwise you will make the fight very hard.

  • When you see a glowing thing on the floor, move away from it, as it will drop a hat on you and prevent you from moving.
  • If caught in a falling hat, press left and right arrow keys quickly to break free.
  • Pierre changes into three colors: blue, purple, and red. Important: pay attention to this as you and your partner will get equipped with a random hat on your head. If your hat is the same color as Pierre's clothes, stop attacking him, otherwise every hit will heal him. Only the player with a different color hat can hurt him.
  • In his purple (normal) form he, his attacks are dodgeable.
  • In his red form, he will disappear and attack with a sneak attack. Keep moving after he disappears or else he'll attack you if you stand in the same spot and instantly kill you.
  • In his blue form: he will spin and chase after people. If you get hit you will be sealed. You can hurt him while he's spinning, so you have to attack while on the move.
  • In chaos mode, when HP <30%, he will separate into Blue Pierre and Red Pierre (HP is the same for each pierre as before splitting). You must kill both pierres in the same time (5 seconds of window maximum between the deaths of 2 Pierres, else the dead Pierre will revive with about 20% HP). To achieve this, either get lucky with the hat colours and each person damage the different pierres respectively, or everyone suicide and revive at the same time after the pierres exchanged their hats (members will have no hats upon revive, both pierres can be damaged by the same person). Bind can also be used upon reviving to prevent the Red Pierre from disappearing to perform his attack (since you need to kill the 2 Pierres 1 after another within 5 seconds).

MS Mob Icon Vellum.pngVellum

Vellum in fireball stance (~80% HP and below).

Vellum, the giant worm/snake is a straightforward fight.

General details and stats

Normal mode

Time limit: 15 minutes

  • HP: 550,000,000
  • Level 130
  • DEF 55%
  • EXP 264,000 (Chatlog EXP)
  • Resists all elements.
Chaos mode

Time limit: 20 minutes

  • HP: 120,000,000,000
  • Level 190
  • DEF 300%
  • EXP 2,520,000 (Chatlog EXP)
  • Resists all elements.

Strategy

Watch the floor and try to get him down to around 80% HP. After that he starts throwing fireballs. That's when you strike him down. Try to time it so you don't get knocked back onto a fireball, since the fireball will instantly kill you. Classes that don't have a flash jump/double jump skill, such as a Buccaneer, may have a little more trouble here when trying to dodge attacks. Vellum usually pops in and out about two times, and then the third time he rises from the ground he starts spamming fireballs. Rinse and repeat. In chaos mode he may shoots out his tail as well to instantly kill you. That can be damaged but it has about 200 billion HP and damage dealt to the tails are not transferred to Vellum himself.

When Vellum has less than 80% HP he will rise out of the ground to his full height and pause for a moment before attacking. He may cause rocks to drop from the ceiling, with gaps in between that you can dodge. However, it is better to get hit by the rocks and run for safety than to wait in-between because he will launch a fireball soonafter. He usually attacks close to him, then further away, and then finally shoots a third fireball a bit off screen. Try to stay behind him. When he rises out of the ground it causes knockback, so if he is facing you after you get knocked back, try to run away. After each explosion, if you're fast enough, you can run back towards him to avoid the other fireballs that fly further away.

As his HP goes lower, he can cast an area attack while at the state of half-emerge (unlike fireball where he will be fully emerged). This area attack does damage upon striking the marked areas and the mark will stay there for some time to deal extra overtime damage.
