Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is the sixteenth game in the Need for Speed series and is a BAFTA Award-winning 2010 racing video game. Hot Pursuit's gameplay is set in the fictional Seacrest County, in which player can compete in several types of races.
There is no overarching plotline or characters in the game, with only in-game radio chatter and introductory briefings to each event providing some semblance of a plotline.
Releases[edit]
The initial release of the game featured two alternate versions:
- The Limited Edition became available for pre-order following a press release by Electronic Arts on July 17, 2010. It included special boxart, two Limited Edition cars (otherwise only playable as police vehicles, not as racers), and four early access cars (that either can be unlocked in the base game, or requires additional DLC).
- The EA Crew Edition was distributed only to EA development staff who worked on the game. It consisted of a special sleeve and boxart, content from the Limited Edition, the SCPD Rebels Pack, and a thank you message from the CEO of Electronic Arts at the time, John Riccitiello.
2020 Remaster[edit]
An updated version titled Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered was released in November 2020 for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It contains all the DLC contained in the base game, with only three cars missing: the Carbon Motors E7 Concept, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition, and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss Edition.
Additionally, the police livery on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 has been altered.
The 2020 Remaster cannot play multiplayer with the original version, but cross-play with other platforms also running the Remastered version is possible.
The option to "Add EA Friends" in the Remastered version is for cross-platform functionality. Adding an EA friend playing the Remastered version on the same platform as you yields an error. To add a friend on the same platform, you must add them to your Origin friends list.
