Back to Kueri[edit]

With the leaves from the Maruera tree in hand, return to the town of Kueri, and visit the scientist in his home located at the very bottom of town. Provide him with the leaves, and he will turn them into a gum which enables your party to breathe under water. You get the one item, but using it affects everyone, and it will never run out. The problem now is trying to discover where to use it.

The search for Climatrol[edit]

The is a lot of ocean to explore on Mota. It just so happens that there's one location in the ocean that looks a bit different than the rest. The ocean is a lighter shade of blue. If you locate this place and drive up to it in the jet scooter, you can use the Gum you received from the scientist in Kueri to explore this region of the ocean. But finding this tiny spot can take a while if you don't know where to look.

Finding the entrance to Climatrol

For a guaranteed means of finding the underwater reef that leads to Climatrol, first head to Uzo Island. Then travel south and to the west to find the two smaller islands nearby. The two islands form a little crevice where they join. Drive the jet scooter into the crevice and then travel due south from there. You will discover the discolored water after a short journey from there.

Climatrol[edit]

Including the underwater reef that you must traverse, and the small tower that you must climb, Climatrol is the largest dungeon you have encountered yet. You'll want to bring as much Trimate as you can afford, an Escapipe and Telepipe if you need to make a quick getaway, and a Hidapipe might not be a bad idea to cut down on how much the biomonsters interrupt your journey.

Underwater Reef[edit]

After chewing the gum, you begin your journey underwater near the upper right corner of the map. Your goal is the staircase on the far left side of the map. To get there, you'll have to navigate a maze of passages, many of which dead-end. Several sections of the floor are covered with patches of lava that damage your party if you walk over them, so choose your path carefully. Don't forget that you can avoid damaging lava tiles by walking along the bottom walls. You'll need to do that in order to squeeze between some of the more narrow passages. Plot your course carefully to reach the stairs to the first floor of the tower.

Floor 1[edit]

Out of the water, you'll need to traverse some simple tunnels in order to gain access to the stairwell that leads to the larger portion of Climatrol. There are no treasures or branching paths to choose from. Just travel from the upper right corner to the lower left corner.

Floors 2, 3, and 4[edit]

Items
Item Notes
1 Jewel Ribbon Nei
Defense +21
2 Fiber Vest Nei
Defense +6

After climbing the stairs, you'll be at the foot of a narrow column which you can treat like a stair well. You'll have to climb the first set of stairs to begin making your way up the well, and avoid falling into the hole in the middle back down to F2. On the way up, you can collect some items, including a Jewel Ribbon for Nei if she isn't already wearing one.

Floor 5[edit]

The fifth floor is the first proper floor of Climatrol. It is wide like other dungeons you have visited so far. There are no treasures to collect here. The floor is divided up into four quadrants. Each quadrant contains two chutes that lead up to Floor 6, for a total of eight choices. Reaching the top floor of Climatrol is function of choosing the correct starting path on this floor.

Floor 6[edit]

1 Silver Ribbon Nei
Defense +12
2 Knifeboots Nei Anna
Attack +7, Defense +7, Agility +5

The sixth floor is even further divided than the fifth floor. While it contains separated regions in each corner, it also has a central region which is blocked off from the rest of the floor by gaps. This center region not only contains two chests to examine, it's also the key to successfully reaching the top floor. Of the two chests, the one on the left contains Knifeboots, which can increase attack, defense, and agility for Nei (or Anna), while the chest on the right contains the Silver Ribbon, which is a nice Ribbon for Nei, but not as good as the Jewel Ribbon you collected on the way up. It may look difficult to reach, but don't forget that you can hug the wall just to the left of the chest and reach it without falling down through the gap to the floor below.

Floor 7[edit]

Items
Item Notes
1 Ceramic Claw Nei
Attack +27, Defense +2
2 Laser Claw Nei
Attack +38, Defense +3
3 Sandals Nei
Defense +3, Agility +3

Floor 7 is the most maze like floor, and it contains the most items. Most of them are weapons for Nei, but she should already be equipped with two Laser Claws at this point, so there isn't much advantage to collecting these items other than to sell them. Where you can go on the seventh floor is largely a function of how you arrived. Keeping track of how the other floors connect to this floor can be difficult without a map.

Floor 8[edit]

The eight floor goes back to being broken up into four quadrants again. However, you can only reach your ultimate destination if you arrived through the quadrant in the lower left. If you did, make your way to the center of the floor. There you will find a figure who has a suspicious resemblance to Nei.

Prepare yourself for combat before you speak with this figure. If you have the Visiphone, it's a good idea to save your game here as well. Once you're all set, speak with the person in the center. She is a being known as Neifirst, and the product of a scientific experiment to combine human genetics with biomonsters. Deemed a failure, the scientists tried to kill her, but they failed. In response, she unleashes biomonsters on Mota, and messes with the weather control system. Filled with hatred for her creators, she seeks only to punish others. But her hatred was so great, part of her strove to break free from her, and that part gained independence and became Nei.

When you first enter combat, it will be exclusively between Nei and Neifirst. No other party memmbers will join in. This fight is essentially unwinnable. Though one could conceivably level Nei up to the point where she can independently overcome Neifirst, the outcome will be the same. Assuming Nei is of a typical level for this section of the game, she will run out of health before stopping Neifirst. The remainder of the party will then challenge Neifirst and try to avenge Nei's death.

Neifirst is a tough opponent, capable of doing a little damage to everyone, or a tremendous amount of damage to just one party member. Amy will have to work very hard to keep Rolf and your other party member (presumably Rudo) alive throughout the fight. If Amy has the Nashu spell, you should have her cast that on the very first round of battle to boost everyone's defense. If Rolf has enough TP, he should cast Nafoi. Neifirst has a lot of health to whittle down, so this battle can take a while.

If you are successful, Neifirst's control over Climatrol comes to an end, and all of the pent up rain systems unleash a massive flood on Mota, filling up the central lake once more. Desperate to save Nei, the party will return to Paseo and head straight for the Clone Labs in an effort to bring Nei back to life. However, with Neifirst destroyed, there is no way to restore Nei, and she is permanently removed from your party.
