What really happened[edit]
Queen Ga'ran has always wanted power. Unfortunately for her, although she was born so very close to achieving all she could ever ask for, she had two obstacles in her way. The first was her older sister, the former Queen Amara. The second was that, even if Amara were to disappear under mysterious circumstances, Ga'ran did not actually possess the level of spiritual power necessary to channel spirits, and thus claim the throne.
Nevertheless, she did not let this stop her, and concocted a plan that would lead to her 23 year rule. She set fire to the palace, killing a wandering musician, Jove Justice, whom she destroyed any evidence of ever existing, his face and name, so that his mitamah could never be summoned to reveal the truth. She also blamed the fire on Dhurke, who at the time was Queen Amara's husband, and claimed it to be an attempted assassination on the queen. Amara believed her sister when she told her Dhurke was out to kill her, and went into hiding. She would pretend to be dead and allow her sister to claim the throne, meanwhile performing the rite of channeling in Ga'ran's place whenever necessary to prove Ga'ran's power.
Although Dhurke proved his innocence in court initially, Gu'ran, who was also the minister of justice and a prosecutor, cast a false guilty verdict upon him, which caused him to also go into hiding, along with his biological son Nahyuta, and his newfound adoptive son Apollo, who he saved from the fire and took in after his father's passing. He raised them together for some years, but eventually decided to send Apollo to America as things got more dangerous as he founded the revolutionary group the Defiant Dragons which aimed to fight the unfair Defense Capability Act, as well as many other unjust laws Ga'ran had enacted under her rule.
8 years after the fire, the former Queen Amara discovered the truth behind her husband's innocence and ran away together for a short while before she was captured again. Although she could not force Amara back into hiding using the same lie she had before, Ga'ran almost immediately found an even stronger grip on her older sister's life, as she had had a second child, Rayfa. Because Dhurke was branded a murderer, and because of the strong belief in the Sins Of The Father in Khura'in, if word got out that Dhurke was Rayfa's father, she would be believed to be just as bad as he was and would not be able to take the throne. Thus, Ga'ran pretended Rayfa was her own child she had had with her husband Inga, and she was raised as the crown princess, not knowing her true parentage. Amara took on a new role to remain in Rayfa's life, and pretended to be Nayna, the chief attendant to the princess, who took care of her every whim.
10 Years afterwards, Nahyuta is a rebel and a defiant dragon and becomes a prosecutor working to reform Khura'in's legal system. However, he discovers the true parentage of Rayfa, and is also blackmailed into working as Ga'ran's lapdog. He is also genuinely under the impression that although Ga'ran is lying, she has the country's best interests in mind, and does not know any further of her crimes, including how she is the one that destroyed his family.
5 years after that, Ga'ran's husband and the current minister of justice, Inga Karkhul, plans a coup and makes an attempt to gain his own spiritual power so that he can take the throne from the Queen. He sends the Founder's Orb to America to be studied by Archie Buff in the hopes that he could unravel its secrets and grant him power. No one knows that the Orb has left the country, so when it is discovered missing in the events of The Foreign Turnabout, the theft is blamed on rebels and swept under the rug. After the events of The Rite of Turnabout and the revalation that there are more people in the world capable of practicing spirit channeling than members of the Khura'in Royal Family, Maya Fey is kidnapped by Inga so that he can force her to channel the spirit of the founder to grant him power once he had discovered the secret of the orb.
However, Dhurke catches wind of this plan and goes to Amara's tomb, where Maya is being held, to rescue her. He confronts Inga, but gets shot 3 times in the chest by him. He is able to act unphased and scare Inga off, but in reality is dying. He frees Maya, and tells her to fly back to America where she is then to channel his spirit. His right hand man Datz had managed to work out a deal with Archie Buff to hand the Founder's Orb over to the rebels for real this time. Inga Karkhul hears of this, and pays off Paul Atishon to retrieve the Orb. He attempts to do so by killing Archie Buff, but Buff has already hidden it deep within a mountain cave and Atishon does not possess the knowledge to retrieve it. He instead decides to claim the Orb as his stolen property in court to get it back. Atishon then hires Phoenix Wright as his lawyer under the threat of Maya's life, whom he doesn't know has escaped.
Meanwhile, Maya reaches America and channels Dhurke's spirit, who goes to visit his adopted son, Apollo, and request his help in retrieving the orb. Dhurke chooses not to tell anyone he is dead, both because he believes the revolution will lose faith without him and because he regrets having never reconnected with his son in America after all these years and does not want their reuniting to be tainted by the knowledge that he is already dead. Although Apollo is initially hesitant to bond with his father, through their adventures and in one case Dhurke saving Apollo's life, he comes to realize he still cares for him. They retrieve the orb, and successfully win the ensuing court case after proving Atishon cannot harm Maya (who none of them know is actually in the room with them as they speak) if he wants to use the secret of the Founder's Orb to channel The Founder's Spirit.
However, after the case, Inga calls Phoenix Wright, and the call is taken by Dhurke, still in Maya's body, is reminded that while Inga may not have Maya, he still possesses control over another person Dhurke needs alive- His wife, Amara. Inga also has control over Rayfa, Dhurke's daughter, but does not think to use her as he seems to genuinely believe Rayfa is his own flesh and blood and cares for her as such, as evidenced by both the combination to and contents of his secret safe. He arranges a meeting where they can exchange hostages the following day.
Through this, and potentially a call from Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth, Queen Ga'ran discovers her husband's insurgence and decides to get rid of him, while also aiming to claim the Founder's Orb and its secret for herself so that she can finally gain her own spiritual power. While Amara is pretending to be her and performing the rite of channeling for the king of a neighboring country, thus giving her an alibi, she hides in Amara's tomb behind the sarcophagus's curtains and waits for her husband to arrive. She then kills him while wearing Dhurke's clothes that she had retrieved from his body, also in the sarcophagus. Because Inga had prosopagnosia, the inability to recognize faces, she knew her identity would be protected during the Divination Séance. Afterwards, she coerced Amara into channeling Inga's spirit in his quarters, and not knowing he had already died, believed himself to be late for his own hostage exchange and ran back to the tomb, being witnessed by Rafya, and obfuscating the time of death. Upon entering the tomb, Amara forced the spirit out of her and instead dressed once again in Dhurke's clothes. She waited in the tomb with a Magatama of Parting for Dhurke in Maya's body to arrive, alone. When he did, she forced him out of Maya, tied Maya up, and then grabbed the bloody knife and stood over Inga's body before summoning Dhurke into her own body instead.
After revealing all of this in court, Ga'ran is deemed unfit to rule, having never had a claim in the first place, and Apollo decides to leave the Wright Anything Agency to continue Dhurke's fight to reform the Khura'inese legal system along with his brother Nahyuta and the new queen-to-be, Rafya (assisted by those around her for the time being). Apollo's story, and this trilogy, concludes, though he promises to return to the US one day and see Phoenix, Trucy, and Athena again.
