Getting the most out of Pokémon breeding in Pokémon Black & White is fairly difficult it is recommended you know about the following concepts, Stats, Ivs, Natures and Abilities.

Breeding Groups

A breeding group is a group of pokémon species that can breed with each other (e.g. Arcanine can breed with Typhlosion because they are both in the same egg group) Pokémon can belong to either one or two egg groups and can breed only with the egg group(s) they belong to, there is one exception but we'll get to that later. There are fifteen egg groups and these are as follows:

  • Field (previously ground)
  • Monster
  • Water 1 (Generally amphibious pokémon)
  • Water 2 (Generally fish pokémon)
  • Water 3 (Generally aquatic invertebrates)
  • Bug
  • Flying
  • Fairy
  • Grass
  • Human-Like
  • Mineral
  • Amorphous (Having no Defining Shape)
  • Ditto
  • Dragon
  • Unknown (Cannot Breed)

Here is a list of which pokémon belong to each:
