Nimbasa City is the centre of entertainment for the Unova region, where Castelia City is the administrative and economic centre. There's plenty of interesting things in this city, including a Gym, led by Elesa. But first, the Day-Care Man is being attacked by Team Plasma Grunts, so fight them off:

  • Team Plasma Grunt
    • Watchog (Lv. 18)
    • Trubbish (Lv. 18)
    • Pokebuck.png 720

After defeating the Grunt, the Day-Care Man will give you a Bicycle as his token of appreciation, and then he will return to the Day-Care on Route 3, and you can now leave a Pokemon (or two to breed) there. After this Bianca will arrive, but then quickly heads off to the Musical house, in the north-east of town. But first, there's a few things to do;

  • You can go to the house directly north of the Battle Institute and get HM04 (Strength).
  • You can obtain the Vs. Recorder, to record battle videos, from a woman who steps out of Gear Station. You can then take part in matches on the Battle Subway.

The Battle Subway

This section is optional
The Battle Subway is Unova's version of the Battle Tower, which involves you boarding different trains and fighting Trainers. As in the Battle Tower, all Pokemon are set to level 50 for the duration of the fight, you can't use items, and you earn Battle Points instead of money. There are eight trains altogether:

  • Single (green)
  • Super Single (dark green)
  • Double (red)
  • Super Double (pink)
  • Multi (tag team) (orange)
  • Super Multi (yellow)
  • Wi-Fi (blue)
  • Non-battling train to Anville Town (brown)

Note that Super trains aren't accessible until after you defeat the Elite Four. You can use the Battle Points you earn to buy some useful items, such as vitamins, TMs and other training equipment.

Musical and Amusement Park

Now, head north-east to the big, colourful building. This is the Musical house. Walk in and you will find Bianca standing there with the owner, who gives both of you a Prop Case. When you leave the building, Bianca and her father are talking, his father having come to Nimbasa to take Bianca home because he is worried. Elesa, Nimbasa's Gym Leader, comes in and stops the fighting, convincing Bianca's father that his daughter will be OK.

When you go to the Amusement Park in the east of town, N arrives, suggesting to ride the Ferris wheel if you're looking for Team Plasma. In this, he reveals his position as the king of Team Plasma, who works with Ghetsis. Then, afterwards, he will battle you to make sure the Plasma Grunts can leave.

  • Team Plasma N
    • Sandile (Lv. 22) Assurance, Mud-Slap, Embargo, Sand Tomb
    • Scraggy (Lv. 22) Swagger, Brick Break, Faint Attack, Headbutt
    • Darumaka (Lv. 22), Facade, Uproar, Headbutt, Fire Punch
    • Sigilyph (Lv. 22), Air Cutter, Psybeam, Tailwind, Whirlwind
    • Pokebuck.png 2,200

After battling him, heal up if you need, then head across to the Gym!

Nimbasa Gym

The Nimbasa Gym specialises in Electric-type Pokemon. Ground moves are best for this gym, however Emolga is immune to them, so you can use Rock-type moves to take down Emolga. The gym's puzzle is based around rollercoasters, and you must use switches to change the cars' direction, some which reveal trainers.

  • Lady Magnolia
    • Emolga (Lv. 24)
    • Emolga (Lv. 24)
    • Pokebuck.png 3,840
  • Rich Boy Cody
    • Blitzle (Lv. 25)
    • Pokebuck.png 4,000
  • Rich Boy Rolan
    • Blitzle (Lv. 24)
    • Blitzle (Lv. 24)
    • Pokebuck.png 3,840
  • Lady Colette
    • Emolga (Lv. 25)
    • Pokebuck.png 4,000
  • Leader Elesa
    • Emolga (Lv. 25) Volt Switch, Aerial Ace, Pursuit, Quick Attack
    • Emolga (Lv. 25) Volt Switch, Aerial Ace, Pursuit, Quick Attack
    • Zebstrika (Lv. 27) Volt Switch, Spark, Flame Charge, Quick Attack
    • Pokebuck.png 3,240

Elesa's gym lineup is about one thing: hitting hard, and fast. Her three Pokemon have high speed, all knowing Volt Switch (a move to deal damage and then switch out) and Quick Attack to get the edge over you. If you want to use moves from TMs, Dig (for Zebstrika), and Rock Tomb (for her two Emolga with identical movesets) are good choices.

After defeating Elesa, she will give you the Bolt Badge, and TM72 (Volt Switch), a recognition that you've finished half of Unova's gyms! But before we go towards Driftveil City, there's still one more place to explore: Anville Town.

Anville Town

This section is optional.
To reach Anville Town, take the brown subway line from Gear Station. There isn't much in Anville Town, even on weekends, but a Depot Agent in the south-east house will give you a Rare Candy, and it makes an interesting place to add to the map. Now, go back to Nimbasa and head north!
