Pokémon Diamond and Pearl/Canalave City

Canalave City

Canalave City is the port city of Sinnoh. It's home to Gym Leader Byron, father of Rourke, and the Mine Badge and also the Move Deleter. You can also go to Iron Island via a boat here.

Arrival

You will bump into one of Rowans assistants who is Lucas'/Dawn's father. He will upgrade your Pokédex so you can see female and male Pokémon in it. He will also tell you to keep an eye on Team Galactic as Rowan is concerned about them after the incident in Jubilife City.

Move Deleter

The Move Deleter lives in a house above the Poké Mart. He us the only person that can delete HM moves from your Pokémon.

Exploring the city

In the very first house you see when entering from the east, a girl will give you TM48 Skill Swap.

A Jubilife TV reporter lives in the house directly below the Gym. Answer her question, and your interview will be shown throughout Sinnoh!

Next to the last chair near the ship to Iron Island is a hidden Pearl.

Surf south of the boat to Iron Island and you will find TM89 U-Turn

Rival battle

As soon as you start to cross the bridge your rival will bump into you. He says that he will test you to see if you are ready to beat the Gym Leader here.

Iron Island

The ship waiting at the Canalave docks can take you to nearby islands. At first, Iron Island is the only accessible destination. Iron Island is optional, but it is recommended to go to as its a good place to earn Exp. Points and you will earn a rare egg for your trouble. Also make sure to have an empty spot in Pokémon party for the egg. The next page in this guide covers Iron Island.

Mine badge

In this Gym, Steel Pokémon are used, so get used to using your Fighting, Ground, and Fire-Types. Poison-Type moves don't affect Steel Pokémon at all.

The gym has four floors which can be accessed by using the lifts. You need to use the lifts in a certain order to get to the top so follow these instructions:

When you first enter the gym head northwest and you will find Black Belt Ricky. The first lift brings you up to the second floor and following the path you will find Worker Jackson. There is nothing else left on this path so head back to the lift to get back to the first floor. Ignore the next two lifts and right above the last lift is Worker Gary. Go up the last lift to head to the second floor again. Follow the path to the next lift which will bring you back down to the another section on the first floor with Ace Trainer Cesar. Continue following the path and go up the next lift to get back to another section of the second floor. Travel on the platform to cross the wire and go up the lift to the third floor. Use the platform to the north to cross the wire and continue north to find Worker Gerardo. Use the next 2 platforms to continue east and you will run into Black Belt David. Go south and use the next platform then walk over to the next one. Go north to the lift which will bring you into the northeastern second of floor two. Follow the path and you will face Ace Trainer Breanna. Go to the next lift which brings you into the northern section of the first floor and a red lift. Take this lift and it will bring you to Leader Byron.

Defeating Byron not inly gives you the Mine Badge and TM91 but it also grants you the access to use strength outside of battle. Next up we will head to the Canalave Library to continue the story.

Canalave Library

As soon as you exit the gym, Barry will tell you to follow him to the library, just above the gym. Go ahead and go to the top floor of the library where you will meet Barry, Dawn/Lucas, and Professor Rowan. Rowan starts rambling about his research of Pokémon evolution about how certain Pokémon evolve and why. Then he questions about the legendary Pokémon being complete as they don't evolve. He wants to get more information on the three mirage/legendary Pokémon at the 3 lakes so he tells Lucas/Dawn to go to Lake Verity, tells you to go to Lake Valor and tells Barry to go to Lake Acuity. An earthquake happens and Rowan tells all of us to go outside. Once outside a Sailor will say that there was an explosion at Lake Valor. At this point in the guide you can either go to Lake Valor to continue the story or you can get some items/Pokémon that are now obtainable with Strength. The walkthrough will be doing the latter first by going to Wayward Cave.
