Pokémon Diamond and Pearl/Pokétch

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

The Pokétch, short for Pokémon Watch, is a watch-like device reminiscent of the Pokégear of Pokémon Gold and Silver and the PokéNav of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It has many features of the other devices, with the addition of several other things, such as a clock and the Itemfinder. Additionally, it includes new features, including a calculator and step counter. However, some Pokétch functions are unavailable when you first acquire the watch.

Functions[edit]

Digital Clock[edit]

This app is a digital clock that displays the time in 24 hour format. You can hold your stylus down on the screen to brighten it. This app is included with your watch.

Calculator[edit]

A four-function (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) calculator with no memory function. If you enter the National Dex number of a Pokémon you have captured and press Equals, that Pokémon's cry will be played.

Memo Pad[edit]

This app lets you draw a simple note or picture. To obtain this app, talk to the president of the Pokétch Company after earning your first Gym Badge.

Step Counter[edit]

This app is a pedometer that counts your steps (bike travel and Surfing also count as "steps"). It can count up to 99,999 steps, and can be reset to zero by tapping the "C" button. This app is included with your watch.

Pokémon Roster[edit]

This lets you see the Pokémon in your party, their health, and if they are holding an item. This app is included with your watch.

Happiness Checker[edit]

This app lets you check the happiness of a Pokémon by seeing how it responds when you tap it with the stylus. To obtain this app, talk to a lady on the first floor of the Eterna City Pokémon Center.

Itemfinder[edit]

This app lets you use a radar for searching for hidden items by tapping the bottom screen. If there is an item, it will appear as a dot on the screen. The hatch marks on the horizontal and vertical lines correspond to steps on the map; one hatch mark equals one step in any direction. This helps you zero in on where an item is hidden. To obtain this app, talk to Professor Rowan's assistant on Route 207, after you obtain the Bicycle.

Tip: If you get a multiple-"ping" without seeing a dot, tap to either side of where you originally tapped, as it will pick up something right on the edge of its field of detection.

Berry Checker[edit]

This app allows you to see all fully grown berries that are ready to be picked. To obtain this app, talk to the girl in the Berry Master's house on Route 208. She will ask you if you forget where berries have been planted; answer "Yes" to acquire the app.

Breeding Centre Checker[edit]

Shows you the status of your Pokémon that are currently in the Solaceon City Pokémon Day Care. It will also show if an Egg has been discovered. You are given this app by a boy in the Day Care building the first time you use the Day Care's services.

Pokémon History[edit]

This app allows you to view the last 12 Pokémon that you have captured, hatched, evolved, or traded for. This app is given to you by a man in a brown hat at the entrance to Solaceon Town.

Counter[edit]

Displays a number that can count all the way up to 9,999. Tap the plus-sign button to add one to the counter. To reset the counter, toggle to and from a different Pokétch app. This app is given to you by a receptionist on the second floor of the Veilstone City Department Store.

Analogue Clock[edit]

This app presents an analog clock (one with hour and minute hands, as opposed to a digital display). Like the digital clock, it obtains the time from the DS's internal clock. You receive this app from a boy in a house in Celestic Town.

Marking Map[edit]

This app displays a map of Sinnoh, along with six symbols you can drag around and place where you please. However, its true use is that it displays the current location of any Legendary Pokémon that are roaming the region. To obtain this app, talk to the president of the Pokétch Company after you have earned three Gym Badges.

Wireless Searcher[edit]

Searches for friends using the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi functionality. Note that if you move your character while the app is searching, the search will be canceled. To obtain this app, talk to the president of the Pokétch Company after you have earned five Gym Badges.

Coin Toss[edit]

This function allows you to flip a coin. Magikarp is on the head’s side while the Poké Ball is on the tail’s side. This app is obtained from a Resident in the Grand Lake Hotel in Diamond and Pearl. In Pokémon Platinum, you can get it from a boy in a cottage on Route 213 (but only after you have earned your seventh Gym Badge).

Type Chart[edit]

This app lets you test the effectiveness of move types on different types of Pokémon. Use the arrow keys to select an attack type and the type(s) of the defending Pokémon. The more exclamation signs you see, the more effective the attack will be. To obtain this app, talk to the president of the Pokétch Company after you have earned seven Gym Badges.

Calendar[edit]

This simple app displays a calendar with the current date highlighted. To obtain this app, you must show a Pokémon with a Serious Nature to a boy in Sunyshore City. (He lives in the house to the north of the lighthouse.)

Drawing Board[edit]

This app displays a 24x20 board you can draw on. How hard you press your stylus on the screen determines how large the resulting dot will be. To obtain this app, you must show a Pokémon with a Naive Nature to the boy in Sunyshore City.

Roulette[edit]

This app lets you draw on the wheel, and then tap the button marked with a triangle to spin the arrow. You can then tap the button marked with a square to stop the arrow. (The button marked with a circle clears the display.) To obtain this app, you must show a Pokémon with a Quirky Nature to the boy in Sunyshore City.

PokéRadar Checker[edit]

When you use the PokéRadar, this app will show you the three Pokémon you most often encounter while using it. You obtain this app the first time you visit Pal Park.

Kitchen Timer[edit]

This app is a timer that can count down from anywhere from one second to 99 minutes and 59 seconds. To obtain this app, show a Snorlax to the girl in the Pal Park entrance building.

Color Changer[edit]

This app lets you change the color of the display of your Pokétch. To obtain this app, show a Kecleon to the girl in the Pal Park entrance building.

Matchup Checker[edit]

This app provides a quick and easy way to check the Pokémon in your party to see if they are compatible for breeding. If your two Pokémon are compatible, the Luvdisc will move in to kiss. The more compatible they are with each other, the more hearts will appear. (If they aren't compatible at all, the Luvdisc will turn away from each other.) A Pokémon's Nature is considered as well as its Egg Group when making this determination. To obtain this app, catch more than five Pokémon in one visit to the Pastoria City Great Marsh; you will be given the app upon leaving. Available only in Pokémon Platinum.

Stopwatch[edit]

As opposed to the Kitchen Timer which counts down, the Voltorb Stop Watch app counts up.

Alarm Clock[edit]

This app allows you to set an alarm for any certain time. Handy if you need to go to a certain area in the game at a certain time. When it hits zero the Loudred goes off with a loud roar.
