The Science Club uses Pokémon cards of the Grass type that are Poison types in the mainline games. Unsurprisingly, they tend to cause the Poisoned status effect making you take damage between each player's turn. Confusion is also a common effect of their attacks. The club master Rick is in the middle of an experiment and does not want to be disturbed so you cannot face him right away.

Joseph[edit]

Deck Flyin' Pokémon Deck
# Prizes 4
Reward Laboratory Booster Packs

Joseph is just inside of Rick's room in the main hall. He'll block your access to Rick until you defeat him.

His deck is unsurprisingly all Pokémon that have resistance to Fighting type. You want to completely avoid bringing any Fighting type Pokémon to this match since they'll barely be able to touch them. The Colorless birds are weak to Lightning type and Golbat line are weak to Psychic. Flying Pikachu has no weakness, but it also only has 40HP and cannot evolve.

Just due to the sheer number of the birds you'll want to prioritize putting Lightning types over Psychic types into your deck. Golbat's Leech Life can heal it for as much as it damages you but since you shouldn't be bringing any Fighting types with you, weakness shouldn't be a factor when battling it.

Flying Pikachu will be using Fly and Fearow will be using Agility. Both prevent you from attacking back if they flip heads. Pikachu's is stronger, but also doesn't do any damage on a tails flip so there is potential for you to last longer against it with a Pokémon with 70HP or higher.

Both of the Pidgeots like to mess with your side of the board. One straight up returns your Active Pokémon to your hand. You don't want to have to face this one with an evolution-based deck. The other one will either randomly damage one of your Pokémon or switch your Active Pokémon with one of your Benched Pokemon while switching the Pidgeot out to safety on the bench.

Club Master: Rick[edit]

Deck Wonders of Science Deck
# Prizes 6
Reward Laboratory Booster Packs

You'll have to defeat Joseph who stands guard just beyond the doorway of Rick's room in the club. He'll move aside once you've won, letting you enter and challenge Rick.

The primary type to use against Rick is Psychic. Only his Porygon is not weak against the type, but on the other hand it resists it. You'll want a second type in your deck to deal with Porygon. If Porygon sticks around too long though, it could cause a bit of chaos with it's Conversion moves. One changes your Active Pokémon's weakness, and the other changes Porygon's resistance. If it manages to change the weakness of your Pokémon to Grass type, you may want to thinking about using a Switch card or retreating unless he has a Mewtwo on the bench you could force out giving you the advantage if your Pokémon is normally weak to Psychic.

Mewtwo is a powerful card, but with only 8 Psychic energy in his deck, he might never get the chance to build it up. Just be aware that Psychic energy is just as dangerous in the discard pile. The Mewtwo with Barrier can discard its energy to protect itself, then switch into the other Mewtwo and use Energy Absorption to pull them out of the discard and attach to itself. This grants it access to its devastating 40 damage Psyburn attack.

A victory over Rick results in you obtaining the Science Medal.

Ishihara's Rare Cards[edit]

There is a boy in the lounge of the Science Club who will tell you about Ishihara, a card collector. Once you have talked to this boy Ishihara will appear in the house in the northwest of the world map. He'll want to be traded some rare cards and will give you some rare Pikachu promotional cards in return.
