Postman Pat The Computer Game title screen (Commodore Amiga).png

You will first have to connect your Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC or Commodore Amiga (and cassette recorder, in the case of the 8-bit versions) to your television, then switch all three (or both in the case of the Amiga version) of them on; you shall now have to place the cassette (or disk in the case of the Amiga version) of Alternative Software's Enigma Variations-developed 1988 action game Postman Pat: The Computer Game into the cassette recorder (or the console itself, for the case of the Amiga version), type LOAD "" (without leaving a space between the two quotation marks), and press Enter to load the program into the console (or wait for it to load automatically for the case of the Amiga version). Once the game's rendition of the show's opening theme has finished, you can either (in the ZX and CPC versions) press 1 to toggle between a keyboard and Kempston joystick control (if connected), 2 to redefine the keys, 3 to toggle between "difficult" and "easy" mode, 4 to toggle between FX and music and 5 to start the game - but in the C64 version, options 1 and 2 will not be present. Also, in the Amiga version, you shall have to select "MAIN GAME", and options 1 and 2 will again not be present; the difficulty and audio options will also have been changed to "HARD/EASY GAME" and "MUSIC/FX ON" respectively.

Once Pat's van has appeared on the screen (at his house in "hard" mode, or at that Greendale Post Office in "easy" mode), he'll have 25 minutes to do the deliveries; in "hard" mode, you have to drive right, up, right again, up again, right again, up again, left, down, left again, down again, and right again to get to the Post Office (while avoiding the walls). If the van drives through a puddle, it will be slowed down for a second, and if it hits a cyclist, you will lose 50 points - and when Pat gets out of it at the Post Office and goes inside it, Mrs. Goggins shall give him his first delivery, which is a parcel for Miss Hubbard. When Pat gets back into the van, you shall have to drive it left, down, left again, down again, right, and down again, to get to Miss Hubbard's; when Pat gets out of the van, and goes inside it, Miss Hubbard will ask him to pick up her prescription from Dr. Gilbertson. When Pat gets back into the van you will have to drive it up, left, and up to get to Dr. Gilbertson's - and when Pat gets out of the van and goes inside it, Dr. Gilbertson will ask him to take Miss Hubbard's prescription back to her. When Pat gets back into that van, you shall have to retrace your path (back to Miss Hubbard's); once you have done so, Miss Hubbard will thank Pat and tell him to return to the Post Office. You will now have to retrace your path back to the Post Office - and once you have done so, Mrs. Goggins will give Pat a cup of tea, and give him his next delivery, which is three letters. When Pat gets back into that van, you must drive it left, fire that first letter through the letterbox of a house's flashing red door, down, left again, fire the second letter through the letterbox another house's flashing red door, down again, right, and fire the third letter through the letterbox of a third house's flashing (green) door; you shall now have to retrace your path back to the Post Office. Once you have done so, Mrs. Goggins will give Pat another cup of tea and give him his next delivery, which is a parcel for George Lancaster - and when Pat gets back into the van you shall have to drive it left, down, left again, down again, left again, up, left again, down again, left again, up again, and left again to get to George Lancaster's. When Pat gets out the van and goes inside, George Lancaster will thank him and tell him to return to the Post Office; once you've done so, Mrs. Goggins will give Pat a third cup of tea and give him his next delivery, which is four letters. When Pat gets back into the van, you shall have to drive it left, fire the first two letters through the letterboxes of two more houses' flashing green (and red) doors, back right, down, left again, down again, right again, fire the third letter through the letterbox of a sixth house's flashing purple door, up, right again, and fire that fourth letter through the letterbox of a seventh house's flashing red door - and you'll then have to retrace your path back to the Post Office. Once you have done it, Mrs. Goggins will give Pat a fourth cup of tea and give him his next delivery, which is a parcel for Ted Glen; when Pat gets back into that van, you will have to drive it left, down, left again, down again, left again, up, left again, down again, left again, down again, left again, down again, right again, up again, and left again to get to Ted Glen's. When Pat gets out of the van and goes inside, Ted Glen will ask him to tell Peter Fogg that his sheep are loose - and when Pat gets back into the van you will have to drive it right, down, right again, up, right again, down again, right again, up again, right again, and down again to get to Peter Fogg's. When Pat gets out the van, and goes inside, Peter Fogg shall ask him to help him round up his sheep; when he gets back into the van, you have to drive it up, left, down, left again, up again, left again, down again, left again, up again and right to get to the clover field. When Pat gets out of the van and goes into the field, he shall have to herd each of Peter Fogg's six sheep back through the entrance - and once he has got back into the van, you will have to retrace your path back to the Post Office. Once you have done so, Mrs. Goggins will give Pat a fifth cup of tea, and tell him he has finished his deliveries, but he now has to start a new round (which resets the 25-minute timer); the game will continue until he runs out of time or you turn off the console, or (for "hard" mode) you hit a wall three times.
