Resident Evil 3: Nemesis/Versions

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis has also been ported to a variety of platforms, with only slight differences occurring between them (with no regional differences). The game was first released in Japan on September 22, 1999 for the PlayStation, with the latest release being in Europe for the GameCube (on May 30, 2003). Below is a more detailed analysis on each version of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

PlayStation version[edit]

PlayStation version

First released in Japan on September 22, 1999, the PlayStation version is the first and earliest build of the game. It features the worst graphics out of all the versions, with no anti-aliasing applied to three-dimensional models; this version features two difficulty modes: Easy, where the player starts with an extreme advantage over enemies, and hard, where the player has no advantage. It also does not let the player select their outfit or play the "Operation: Mad Jackal" mini-game from the start unlike the Windows and Dreamcast versions, and is also missing two alternative outfits. This version also does not allow you to post your "Operation: Mad Jackal" scores online on Capcom's website (now a defunct feature), which the Windows 9x and Dreamcast versions allow you to do.

PC version[edit]

Windows 9x version

Released late after the original PlayStation release in Japan on June 16, 2000, the Windows 9x features much more detailed graphics and expanded features. Although it does not have true anti-aliasing applied, this version supports higher resolutions and has more detailed three-dimensional models than its PlayStation counter-part. It features the same difficulty modes but allows the player to choose alternative outfits and the "Operation: Mad Jackal" mini-game from the start of the game. On top of this, it also has two more alternative outfits and the ability to post your "Operation: Mad Jackal" scores online on Capcom's website like the Dreamcast version.

Dreamcast version[edit]

Dreamcast version

This version came out shortly after the Windows 9x release in Japan on November 16, 2000, and is also quite similar to it. The Dreamcast version's graphics are on-par with the Windows 9x release, but does not have support for higher resolutions; it also does not have anti-aliasing applied to three-dimensional models. It also has the same difficulty modes, alternative outfits, starting selection modes, and ability to post "Operation: Mad Jackal" scores as the Windows 9x version. The Dreamcast version features the added benefit of allowing players to view their character's current health via a VMU.

GameCube version[edit]

GameCube version

The latest release of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, the GameCube version first came out in North America on January 14, 2003 to correlate with the release of Resident Evil (Nintendo GameCube). This version is a direct port of the PlayStation version but features anti-aliasing applied to three-dimensional models as well as cutscenes that play at sixty frames per second (instead of thirty). It has the same difficulty modes but does not feature the two extra alternative outfits, starting selection modes, or the ability to post "Operation: Mad Jackal" scores.
