The game itself features 16 unique chapters. The 4 adventure packs released with Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure are also compatible with this game, thus making a total of 20 chapters, although they do not contribute to the story.
Like Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, it utilises the toys-to-life mechanic of placing Skylander Figures onto a Portal and having them appear in-game. However, the addition of Giants and other characters makes it a more dynamic experience overall.
