Map of the merchant quarter

Iziz Spaceport[edit]

You enter the bottom end of the merchant quarter from the spaceport. Behind you, Captain Gelesi stands between two turret pillars. If you speak to him, or try to return to the spaceport:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: I'm Captain Gelesi, offworlder.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: If you want to pass here, I'll need to see your starport visa.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Maybe later. I'll be going now. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Never mind. I don't need to go back to my ship right now.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Here's my visa. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Everything seems in order. You're cleared to go.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I'll be going now.

If you return:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: You're cleared to go.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Why are these visas necessary anyway?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: There are reports of Republic smugglers arming dissidents in the city. Checkpoints have been set up throughout the city to prevent more civil disturbances. There are two types of starport visas. The type you have is an individual visa, good for just you and any pre-registered staff and family that accompany you. The Office of Emigration also issued open visas.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. But why can't anybody leave?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: I don't make the law, off-worlder. Only the Queen or General Vaklu can issue starport visas. It's a lengthy process, costs money, and there's a long line ahead of you.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I don't see an actual line. Just several people wandering around aimlessly.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: I wouldn't pay the beggars near here much mind. Just ignore them and go about your business.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. How would I get an extra starport visa?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Because of the Republic attacks, General Vaklu just announced that the Office of Emigration has been shut down. There have been a lot of edicts since the Republic launched an unprovoked attack on our space forces. No one can get starport visas any more.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Can't you make an exception for one of these people?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Listen. I wouldn't mind letting some of these unfortunates through. But regs are regs. Besides, some of my troops would like nothing more than to get rid of me to earn favor with General Vaklu.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Why does Vaklu want to get rid of you?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Any officer loyal to the Queen has found life increasingly difficult. So far all the officers in the Merchant Quarter are still royalists, but many of our troops think Vaklu is right. I think he's right, too, but he should respect the Queen's orders. But if I break any of Vaklu's orders, I fear some of my men wouldn't wait for my court-martial.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What are Vaklu and the Queen fighting about?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: The Republic and the Jedi brought many wars to our planet. Things were far simpler and safer when we were independent. General Vaklu keeps pressuring the Queen to listen to the will of the people and secede from the Republic. But Queen Talia is staunchly in favor of the Republic.

There are two Onderon soldiers standing on the left side, and another standing on the right:

Onderon Soldier
General Vaklu was an underground resistance leader during the Mandalorian occupation. He's a real hero. My brother fought in the recent space battle. He said that the Ebon Hawk didn't fire first.
The Merchant Quarter is mostly safe. Other parts of the city have had real trouble. It disgusts me how many soldiers in other commands are willing to put aside their sworn duty. We took an oath to protect and serve the Queen faithfully.
The soldiers in the Merchant Quarter are too loyal to the Queen. Is everybody except me blind? Queen Talia is a smart and capable ruler. The times before the Republic were terrible for us. Doesn't anybody remember that?
The Republic has spies and operatives that are causing havoc in our city. If they keep it up, it will lead to war. General Vaklu dares too much. He's skirting treason!
I'm just going to try and stay out of all the politics and do my job.

There's a security terminal mounted on the right turret pillar. If you try to use it, the Onderon soldier standing by it intervenes:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: Hey! What do you think you're doing? This terminal is restricted to military personnel only.
I said this terminal is restricted, civilian.

There's a defense turret by the left wall ahead:

[This turret is inactive at the moment.]

Three Vaklu soldiers and an Iziz citizen stand on the top side of the street, opposite the checkpoint. If you approach them:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: Let's hurry this up. I want him escorted out of here quickly.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Iziz Citizen: This is outrageous! I'm not a spy, I'm a journalist for Iziz Comm.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: You're a Republic spy and your propaganda will be silenced. We are taking you back to our barracks for interrogation.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Iziz Citizen: What? Well, you can't be serious? You accuse me of propaganda? I have proof that Vaklu is withholding information on the so called 'Republic-
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: One more word of treason out of you...
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: What are you looking at? This is none of your business.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Iziz Citizen: Please, ma'am, help me. Vaklu's troops won't listen. I'm just a journalist, not a spy. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Iziz Citizen: Please, sir, help me. Vaklu's troops won't listen. I- I'm just a journalist, not a spy.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. What's going on?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: This spy has been using his position as a journalist to spread lies and dissent among our people. No doubt he's been up to other treasonous activity, as well.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Iziz Citizen: But that's crazy, I was a member of the resistance. I fought in the Mandalorian Wars.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: Yes, and your disloyalty now deeply sickens me.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Do you have some sort of warrant?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: A warrant? General Vaklu passed an edict giving the military broad authority to detain and question anyone suspected of treasonous activity. It was specifically meant for us to pick up spies like this before they could leave Iziz or go underground.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Why are you really taking him away? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. A journalist would be a poor cover for a spy. They're not well-known for their discretion.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Iziz Citizen: This is just because I try and expose the web of lies that-
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: Enough out of you! Perhaps this traitor is more of an agent provocateur. Sent by the Republic to sow dissent in our ranks.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Do you have proof of any sort? KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: That is classified military information.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [Awareness] How many other journalists are being rounded up today? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. In other words - no, you don't have any proof.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: I don't have time to answer your barbed questions, off-worlder.
Low (Affect Mind) 2. [Force Persuade] You have the wrong man - don't you? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. [Persuade] You're violating this man's rights. I'll make sure that this story gets out.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: [Success] I have the... wrong man. Yes, you heard me right. We have the wrong guy. So let him go. But watch it, both of you. If I hear even a hint you're up to something I'm coming back. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: [Success] Men... let him go. We'll be back with a court order. Then we'll take him to the barracks. And you... You should watch yourself. You don't want to be known for siding with people like him.
KotOR Icon Light.png Light Side Points Gained: +4
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Iziz Citizen: I don't know how to thank you. I'm getting out of Iziz now. Eventually they'll come back for me. After that, I have a feeling no one'll hear from me again. Thank you!

He leaves via the spaceport. Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Do you think questioning is necessary? He's obviously "guilty."
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: What do you mean?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. If he tried to escape... KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I'm sure this self-righteous mudlicker could meet with an accident along the way.
KotOR Icon Dark.png Dark Side Points Gained: -4 KotOR Icon Dark.png Dark Side Points Gained: -6
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: I like the way you think. Men, let's take the back way to the barracks.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Iziz Citizen: But no, no - wait. You can't do this!

He also gets taken away if you don't get involved:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I'm not getting involved, soldier. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. That's all I have to say. I'll be going. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I have nothing more to say.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Vaklu Soldier: Hmph. Men, let's take this spy away. Another word out of you and we can make the trip very uncomfortable.

Starport Visa[edit]

As you go further along the street to the right of the checkpoint, you pass a woman named Terlyn with two children, a girl and a boy, standing on the top side of the street, on your left. If you speak to them:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Terlyn: Please, captain! Help me! My children and I are desperate to get off of Onderon. Do you have an open starport visa?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I can't help you. I'll be going now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Terlyn: Captain, you're back? Please tell me you have an open starport visa.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I don't have anything for you. I have to go.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What do you mean? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Could you tell me your story?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Terlyn: My husband... was killed by General Vaklu's troops. Our home was seized, and we were cast out. We have seen many wars on Iziz, and I know war is coming. I want to spare my children from bloodshed.
Awareness 1. [Awareness (8)] I sense you're not telling me something.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Terlyn: I've told you our story, please, won't you help us?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. How do you know war is coming?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Terlyn: The military is divided, some supporting the Queen, others supporting General Vaklu. Their arguments over seceding from the Republic become angrier and more public every day. General Vaklu has said that if the Queen doesn't rule with the consent of the people, she has no right to the throne. Things could get bloody.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. That's your problem, not mine. Get out of my way. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. It's your problem, not mine. Get out of my way.
KotOR Icon Dark.png Dark Side Points Gained: -2

Otherwise:

High (Dominate Mind) 1. [Force Persuade] Tell me the truth. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Persuade] If you expect me to help you out, tell me the truth.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Terlyn: [Success] My husband... He was a part of the Iziz Council. He was a strong supporter of the Queen and the Republic. His views weren't always popular. Over time he became convinced that Vaklu was trying to kill Queen Talia. He... he tried to kill Vaklu, to protect the Queen. The conspiracy was discovered and he was shot during the arrest. What he did was wrong, and our life has been so difficult since then. I just want to get off this planet and start a new life. Please, help us. No one else will.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I'll see what I can do. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I'll think about it. I'll be going now.
Mother, why can't we go home? I'm not supposed to talk to off-worlders.

Further along to the right of Terlyn and her children stands a man named Tolas. If you speak to him:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Tolas: You have the look of someone used to adversity. A cut above the rabble around here. I have a business proposition for you. Everyone around here begs and pleads night and day for open starport visas. Very touching how well they act out their lies. Or truths. It doesn't really matter. What does matter is credits. Hard currency. I offer you 2000 credits if you find an open starport visa. You won't find a better deal.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I'll be going now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Tolas: So you're back. My offer still stands 2000 credits for an open starport visa.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. What will you do with it?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Tolas: Does it matter? Truly matter? No. I have no sad story, I just know people who will pay a great deal for an open starport visa. The credits are your share of my profits. The visas are very rare, but I have a feeling you may come across one.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. What can you tell me about the place?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Tolas: Ask someone who cares about that. Iziz has suffered for many years. The strongest of us are accustomed to it now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Sounds valuable. Certainly someone will pay more.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Tolas: I only know of one person who might offer something comparable. And what's going on there is illegal. I'm a legitimate trader, so there's no risk. There is only one thing ultimately more important than money - and that's your life. She's trouble, I wouldn't deal with her.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Who is she?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Tolas: I want nothing to do with her. If you want to get involved with that sort of person, you'll have to figure it out on your own.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Can we talk about something else?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Tolas: No, I don't think so. It's really very simple. We don't have anything more to talk about unless you get an extra visa.

After speaking to either Terlyn or Tolas:

Journal Entry Added Starport Visa
There are many people in Iziz who are looking for Open Starport Visas in order to leave the city before things get worse. If you found a visa, you might have a difficult decision of who to give it to.

Turret Tower[edit]

At the end of the street away from the checkpoint there's a news hologram at the corner, on the right side:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png News Hologram: In the Council of Lords today, Lord Dashel recommended a special commendation for Colonel Tobin due to his brilliant command of our armada in the skies above Onderon. 'Without him,' Lord Dashel said, 'The Republic attack would surely have done more damage. Tobin is one of Iziz's greatest heroes and deserves recognition.'
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png News Hologram: The Ithorian fleet has yet again pushed back estimates for when the beasts will be cleared from our streets. They claim that the blockade continues to hinder their progress. Not only has this posed a significant health risk, but there has been a rise of beast attacks in Iziz. Three attacks happened last week. Disturbingly, there have been two additional beast attacks today. The frequency of the attacks has been growing.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png News Hologram: The Council of Lords' session is running late today as General Vaklu rallies his supporters to pass his amendment giving the Council the power to manage diplomatic relations with the Republic instead of the Queen. Critics say that this amendment is a thinly veiled attempt by General Vaklu to secede from the Republic. A super-majority of lords are needed to pass it. Political experts say that Queen Talia still has enough Lords that support her to easily quash Vaklu's latest efforts.

There's an update once you've met Dhagon Ghent:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png News Hologram: Crime rates have been soaring in recent months. Even in the Merchant Quarter, the Western Square has seen a dramatic increase in violent crimes. There have been multiple reports of gang warfare on a large scale. Captain Riiken of the Onderon military has confirmed over a dozen casualties today alone. One local resident of the Western square claims to have heard blaster shots, sword fighting, and even a lightsaber. 'It's getting so bad that I don't want to leave my house,' she said.

An Onderon soldier and Captain Riiken stand at the base of the tower on the inside corner of the street, on the left side:

[This soldier just glares at you.]
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Welcome to what must be the smelliest place in the universe, off-worlder. How can I assist you? KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Back again, off-worlder? I'm sure you have a starport visa. If I were you I'd leave before too many more beast cages are stacked in the streets.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Why are there so many beast cages around?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Ithorians have been buying them to help rebuild Telos. I don't know why, but ever since they started the beast-riders have been crawling out of the woodworks to sell them animals. But the Republic blockade has meant long delays. And because of that beast cages are filling up the streets of Iziz.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. What's that tower?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: That's an Air Defense Tower. The city is filled with them. Iziz is an ancient city, and for many generations our main enemy was the beast-riders that lived outside the city. Towers like these were built to protect us against drexl and their beast-riders.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What's a drexl?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: A drexl is a flying beast. Huge creatures with teeth the size of your arms. Lethal and skin like ferrosteel plates. Somehow the beast-riders figured out how to tame them years ago.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Can I ask you about something else?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Certainly. Things are quiet right now, I have some time. What do you want to talk about?

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Could you tell me about the beast-riders?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: That's a long story. You sure you have the time? Most people don't care for an old soldier spinning a tale or two.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Actually, I was hoping to ask you about something else.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: I don't blame you. My grandson gives me that same kind of look when I start getting too long-winded. So what do you want to talk about?

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I have the time for it. I'm interested.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Someone else who likes history, huh? Alright, Iziz was formed pretty much at the dawn of our civilization. It was born out of necessity. It protected us from the dangerous beasts that litter Onderon. This city is as old as our civilization. Most of our technology was invented to fortify these walls and protect us. For ages our worst criminals were cast out of the city to an almost certain death. It wasn't completely certain, though. Some of the criminals figured out how to survive out there. They learned how to tame the native beasts, and it wasn't long before they turned their attention to Iziz.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. But the beast-riders aren't your enemies any more. What happened?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: About fifty years ago Princess Galia married one of the great leaders of the beast-riders Oron Kira. That was right at the start of the Beast Wars. By the end of it Galia was crowned Queen and finally there was peace between our people.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Are you still allies? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. After all that time you just made up?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: It's hard to put aside centuries of conflict. There's uneasiness between our people. The beast-riders are upset that General Vaklu has forbidden drexl in Iziz. Citizens usually only see the fallen beast-riders, who are no better than thugs.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. There are a lot of soldiers around.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: These are troubled times. You've probably heard that General Vaklu and Queen Talia are having some... disagreements.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Could you tell me about the troubles? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. You were telling me about the troubles in Iziz.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: I've been warned from command to keep my opinions to myself on that. So I've learned my lesson and am going to keep my mouth shut. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Actually, I wasn't telling you about it before. Like I said, I was warned by command to keep my opinions to myself.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Ask around, though, there are plenty of people who'd like nothing more to talk about it.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. How did you get in trouble?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Times are too complex for a simple soldier like myself. Sometimes I made the mistake of answering questions honestly. If you say anything bad about a superior officer they call that disrespecting the rank. Do that too many times and it's not long before you're a civilian.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. What do you mean by that? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Who else can I talk to about what's going on Iziz?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: The politics of the day is probably the most talked about subject in the city. And everyone wants to share their particular view of what's going on. Opinions are like gizka around here, they breed like mad.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I'll be going now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Stay out of trouble.

The street above the corner, along the right side of the merchant quarter, is broader. If you speak to any Iziz citizens, they only comment:

Iziz Citizen
We're going to have to find another source of cheap fuel now that Peragus is gone.
I can't believe that the Republic assaulted our space forces. Forget about secession, we should declare war. The Republic wouldn't attack our ships. That makes no sense! Someone else must have started it.
General Vaklu is royalty, too. I know a lot of people that wish he was King. I think Queen Talia's policy is a wise one. We need the Republic. Without them, we'd be under Mandalorian rule.
Republic dissidents blew up an armory depot in the Lower City. Vaklu should do something about it. I think Vaklu is using Republic spies as an excuse to intimidate anybody that would oppose him.
I heard the Peragus mining facility was completely destroyed. What are we going to do for fuel?

Gegorran[edit]

A merchant named Gegorran and an Onderon soldier stand up the street along the right side of the merchant quarter, on the right. Save game before speaking to Gegorran as most of his inventory is selected the first time you do so.

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: Please tell me you are an off-worlder... You came from the space port, right?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Yes, I am. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Lie] No, I live in Iziz. Why did you think I was an off-worlder?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: You are? Wait... This is not so. You think to make a joke on Gegorran. Haha.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: But this is good news! You have a starport visa, right? I can only sell my best weapons if you have that. These soldiers ensure that I don't forget these formalities.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: Watch it, Geg. The captain already has enough complaints about you.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: No need to be alarmed, my foreign friend. Pay this soldier no heed. Pretend he isn't here.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I'd like to see your stock.
Gegorran

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: You have returned. My stock is filled with weapons I can only sell to offworlders. Please take a look, the finest bargains in all of Iziz.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. What do you sell?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: A large variety of weapons, my stock is very good. You might want to buy some before the General decides he needs more blasters. Then weapon merchants, like myself, have the honor of providing them to him at a substantial discount. Even below what it costs us... We do it happily or else...
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: Or else what, Geg?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: Or else we are very unhappy at not being able to do our part. Heh heh.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Why can you only sell to people with starport visas?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: General Vaklu is concerned about well-armed insurgents. They've had to get arms from somewhere. Not from me, of course, but all sales of weapons have been severely restricted. I can only sell to off-worlders like you that have the proper clearance. And now offworlders can't come here because of the blockade and searches, but it's a wise policy.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. So you're happy about this then?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: Of course, soldiers are only doing their job. Even if it puts me out of business, I am happy! Ha ha. Even if I am forced to live off scraps in the street, I am so happy to do my part! Long live General Vaklu.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. What can you tell me about Iziz?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Gegorran: Oh, everything's great here! We're all very happy. So very happy.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 5. I'll be going now.
[This soldier just glares at you.]

Market Square[edit]

The market square is in the top right corner of the merchant quarter. There's a security terminal mounted on the top wall in the top right quarter of the square:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: PATROL CHECKPOINT
SYSTEM LOADING...
ENTER COMMAND
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [Computer] Slice the computer.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: ACCESS DENIED
LOGOUT SEQUENCE INITIATED
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Log out. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: EXITING SYSTEM...

In the square itself, a crowd of seven is gathered round a man named Ponlar at the base of a large statue. If you approach:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: There must come a time when the Queen bows to the will of the people. The Republic has brought nothing but war and death! In our fifty years of flying their colors we have had more war than the past millennia. Back General Vaklu in his effort to make her see reason. We do not need the Republic. They need our resources, our world, and our blood! For all that we have given, now we get nothing. The Republic is weak and falling apart. Its Jedi, whose fallen brethren have brought such misery to us, have disbanded. Let's be the first world to take our future into our hands. Are you with me?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Who... me?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: Yes, you. It is up to each and every one of us to turn the tide. To take control of our future!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Not my concern. This isn't my home planet. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Surely the Republic does something in return for you? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. The Queen should listen to the will of her people.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: Leave here, off-worlder. My words are meant for the sons and daughters of Onderon. Your type continues to plunder our world. And we have nothing to show for it. Begone! KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: No, they take from us. They are like mynocks sucking energy and resources from so many worlds. They bleed us for their bureaucracy and their excesses. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: Exactly! That is all we ask. Close to two thirds of Onderonians want to reclaim our independence. To isolate ourselves from the ravages of the Republic. To relive our golden age when we answered to no Senate.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: That's enough, Ponlar. If you keep this up, you're going to spend time in detention. You're coming awfully close to treason.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: You can't silence me forever, soldier. But... I'll keep my peace for now.

The crowd disperses around the square, and can comment like Iziz citizens. If you speak to Ponlar, or the Onderon soldier who remains standing to the right:

If I speak more right now, the soldiers will arrest me. Perhaps later. These are dangerous times. People like Ponlar aren't making it any easier.

If you return later and approach Ponlar again:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: I won't remain silent any longer! The Republic has actively attacked us. They attack our space ships unprovoked! What next... an invasion? Perhaps they seek to conquer us. Will you stand idly by? Will you let them bomb our city?!
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Crowd: No!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: If Queen Talia is so removed that she won't do what the people so clearly want... then we must show her. With force!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: That's it Ponlar, we're taking you in. You've gone too far!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: Brothers and sisters, let us rise up now and march to the Palace. Our will cannot be denied!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Persuade] Don't do this, Ponlar. This will not help your cause. Innocents will die.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: [Failure] Sacrifices are inevitable - but it is the price of change!

You can only prevent a riot if you can dominate minds:

Impossible 1. [Force Persuade] You will go quietly, Ponlar.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: I - I will...I will not! My cause is just, the Queen must bow to our will!
High (Dominate Mind) 1. [Force Persuade] Tell everyone to stop now.

The news hologram at the bottom end of the street updates once you've met Dhagon Ghent:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png News Hologram: In local news, a citizen in the Merchant Quarter was mistakenly arrested by Queen Talia's soldiers. The soldier's report claimed that the speaker was "attempting to incite a riot." A preliminary investigation revealed that, although the speaker was intoxicated, he was innocent of all charges. The soldier is expected to be reprimanded for the false arrest.

Otherwise, a riot is inevitable:

Low (Affect Mind) 1. [Force Persuade] Tell everyone to stop now.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: [Failure] Everyone... don't stop! Arm yourselves! The Republic is a threat to our very existence!

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. Soldier, call for reinforcements now. You're going to need them. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 5. I'm staying out of this.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Ponlar: The time of patience is over. Let's show them our resolve with force!

In every case:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Crowd: He's right! Gather arms - kill the royalists!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: They're arming... ? We need backup. You - we could use your assistance... Try to disable them. If the mob grows, many more will die.

Six more soldiers from the western square only arrive as backup once the riot has started. Until then, you can assist the Onderon soldier:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I will do what I can.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: Thank you, off-worlder... We may have to hold them off alone until backup arrives.
KotORII Icon T3-M4.png T3-M4: Bree-deee-dweet-dwoo!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I don't like what they're saying about the Queen, either, T3. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Let's just get this over with. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Keep quiet, T3. This is serious.

[Ponlar is too busy to speak right now.]

After the riot, the news hologram at the bottom end of the street updates once you've met Dhagon Ghent:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png News Hologram: In the Merchant Square today a full scale riot broke out. During a public speaker's address, vocal supporters of Queen Talia were provoked to violence. Soldiers arrived quickly at the scene. However, seven people are still listed to be in a critical condition from injuries sustained in the riot. This is the second incident this week of public speakers being violently assaulted by Queen Talia's supporters.

If you joined Ponlar and fought for Vaklu then other Onderon soldiers in the merchant quarter can comment afterward, as can the elderly male patron in the top right quarter of the Iziz cantina on the bottom side of the western square:

I could've sworn I saw you at the riot. Command said that all the ring leaders were picked up, though...
Some off-worlder started a riot in the Merchant Quarter. We should throw all of them out of the city!

Iziz citizens in the merchant quarter have no comment, but those back in the Iziz Spaceport do:

You're the one that started that riot. I... uh... don't want any trouble. You're the one that started that riot. I... don't want any trouble.

Matter of Leadership[edit]

There's a woman named Anda standing in the top left quarter of the market square. If you speak to her and have said and done nothing to show support for General Vaklu:

I am quite busy right now. Perhaps later we could talk?

If you don't speak to her but have said or done something to show support for General Vaklu, then after returning from the Western Square, a Twi'lek trader approaches you as you pass the entrance to the Sky Ramp:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek Trader: I come to bear you a message. A human lady named Anda wishes to speak with you. She assures me that you will want to hear what she says. You can find her in the northern part of the Merchant Quarter.

If you then speak to Anda:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: The rumor I've heard is that you don't fully agree with our Queen and her supporters. If you aren't averse to Queen Talia stepping down, we could use your help. It would be worth your while.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I'm not really interested right now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Your help would not be without its compensations. Speak to me later if you change your mind.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: You're back to visit me. Will you reconsider helping me? I believe we both share concerns about the Queen.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Still not interested.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Then we still have nothing to talk about.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What's this about? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. How can I help? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Could you go over what you want again?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: I am a strong supporter of General Vaklu. The Merchant Quarter is an important area. Not only financially but strategically, as well. It is one of the few districts that is directly connected to the Royal Palace. The Queen and her advisors are well aware of this and have ensured that the Captains here are extremely loyal to her. This presents complications for Vaklu. If you could arrange for them to be removed from their command, you will be richly compensated.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I'll be going now.
KotORII Icon Mira.png Mira: We're going to go after these captains, right? As long as we're not killing them, I'm on board. This could be quite lucrative for us.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Not everything is about money, Mira. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I agree, the credits are hard to ignore. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I have no real interest in helping her.
Influence Lost: Mira (-8) Influence Gained: Mira (+8)
KotORII Icon Mira.png Mira: You're wrong, everything is about money. It's just a question of how much. KotORII Icon Mira.png Mira: Together this mission should be as easy as hunting kath hounds in a kennel. KotORII Icon Mira.png Mira: Be that way. But if I didn't have to keep track of you I'd finish this job.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: This woman works for Vaklu - the Queen is riddled with short-comings and other faults. We should assist Valku instead.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I agree with you, I have no interest in helping their Queen. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. You want me to help the man who has been trying to kill me? I'd rather work with the Queen. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. We should go.
Influence Gained: Visas (+8) Influence Lost: Visas (-8)
KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: By helping Anda, we may convince Vaklu we need not be enemies. KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: Forget I said anything, then.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Kreia.png Kreia: Whatever course you wish to take, aiding this woman may be useful. We may gain Vaklu's favor or learn more of his plans. Either way, helping Anda should be carefully considered.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I'm not going to help someone that's trying to kill me. The Queen is preferable to that. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I may see where this quest of hers leads us. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Let's go.
Influence Lost: Kreia (-8) Influence Gained: Kreia (+8)
KotORII Icon Kreia.png Kreia: Holding vendettas is a weakness. An open mind can unlock many doors. KotORII Icon Kreia.png Kreia: General Vaklu may be at odds with us now, but it need not always be that way.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Mandalore.png Mandalore: We should try to get General Vaklu to be on our side. He has a shrewd mind and is far more fit for command. Queen Talia is young and too idealistic. A veteran leader is what this planet needs and would make a better ally.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I agree, Vaklu has a lot more to offer us. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. But Vaklu tried to kill us. Multiple times. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I didn't ask for your advice.
Influence Gained: Mandalore (+8) Influence Lost: Mandalore (-8)
KotORII Icon Mandalore.png Mandalore: Vaklu is no fool. Whatever our past disagreements, he'll recognize the advantages of an alliance between us. KotORII Icon Mandalore.png Mandalore: Why do you take that so personally. When you've been around as long as I have, it's just part of doing business. KotORII Icon Mandalore.png Mandalore: Have it your way, then.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. Let's go.
Journal Entry Added A Matter of Leadership
You've caught the attention of Anda, who is a staunch supporter of General Vaklu. She has a sensitive mission for you. The Captains of the Merchant Quarter are very loyal to Queen Talia, so she wants them removed from command. She implied that she doesn't necessarily want them dead, just out of the picture. For each Captain that you "convince" to step down, she'll pay a lot of credits.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: You're back to visit me.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: I know you didn't promise me anything, but I have a lot of credits in store for you if you do... what we spoke of.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Tell me about these captains.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: There's Gelesi at the Starport, Riiken commands from the Turret Tower, and Bostuco guards the entrance to the Sky Ramp. All loyal, and all need to be reassigned.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Tell me about Gelesi. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. What about Riiken? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Bostuco?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I have some other questions.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: About what?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. How do I remove them from their posts?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: You can't attack them directly. The entire city would be after you if you assaulted their checkpoints. You may have to be subtle and patient. They don't have to be killed, just removed from command.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. How much does this pay?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: For each task you complete, I am prepared to pay you 2500 credits. Plus you will earn the favor of some powerful people. We could make your job much easier here.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I'll see what I can do.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Your efforts are appreciated, and success will be richly rewarded.

If you kill a captain (Bostuco or Riiken) then you're committed to supporting General Vaklu, against Queen Talia and Master Kavar. You can still persuade or threaten all three without committing yourself, but you cannot persuade Riiken once Dhagon Ghent has been released.

After eliminating each captain, either with persuasion, threat or violence:

Journal Entry Added A Matter of Leadership
You've eliminated one of the royalist captains from their post.
Journal Entry Added A Matter of Leadership
You've eliminated two of the royalist captains from their posts.
Experience Points (XP) Received:
  • 150 Eliminated royalist captain
Experience Points (XP) Received:
  • 150 Eliminated two royalist captains
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: I have heard the news. One captain has been removed. Two to go. Here are the credits we talked about, there is twice as much waiting for you if you... do what is being asked. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Two of the poor Captains have lost their commands. A great shock, no doubt? Just one more left and the royalist Captains will be no more. Here is the sum of credits we agreed upon.
KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Received: 2500 KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Received: 2500

If you return after collecting a reward before eliminating the next captain:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: No new news yet. There are still those unfriendly to our cause in command. I hope you intend to finish the job.
Journal Entry Added A Matter of Leadership
You've eliminated all three royalist captains from their posts. You should report your success back to Anda.
Experience Points (XP) Received:
  • 150 Eliminated all three royalist captains

Once all three captains have been eliminated, Anda leaves for the Iziz spaceport:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: So all three Captains have been removed from their posts. You are quite impressive. Here is the reward I promised. I will let my friends know of your able assistance. I am certain we can return the favor at some point in the future. You've made a powerful ally, Jedi.
Journal Entry Added A Matter of Leadership
You talked with Anda and got a reward for removing all of the royalist guard captains from their commands. She said you've made powerful friends, and that they may be able to help you out in the future.
KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Received: 2500
Experience Points (XP) Received:
  • 550 Removed all royalist captains

However, if you're seen killing Riiken in the western square and you don't persuade the witness that he didn't see anything:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: I told you that discretion was important. There were witnesses in the Western Square. Here are the credits promised, but I'm leaving now. Fortunately any witness in the Western Square can be dealt with, but you've opened the door to the wrong kinds of inquiry. Friends may still contact you... later.
Journal Entry Added A Matter of Leadership
Since the way you dealt with Captain Riiken had witnesses, Anda was furious. She still paid you, but she doesn't want to be seen with you any longer.
KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Received: 2500-7500
Experience Points (XP) Received:
  • 1000 Captain Riiken had witnesses

You receive credits for all three captains, even if they haven't been eliminated yet: you can still eliminate Captains Gelesi and Bostuco (a deal is a deal, after all), but you won't receive experience for it. So if you're willing to support General Vaklu, to maximize experience you should eliminate the other two captains before returning to Anda (300 more XP in total).

Gelesi[edit]

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: He is the most junior of the captains. His superior, Captain Sullio, met with an accident. I believe you are familiar with that. Besides his strong loyalty to the Queen, I know next to nothing about him. He sometimes frequents the local cantina when he isn't at his post.

If you return to the Iziz Spaceport checkpoint then you'll find Captain Gelesi is no longer at his post. You'll now find him in the Iziz cantina on the bottom side of the Western Square, in the top right corner of the first room:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: You look like an offworlder. My names Gelesi. I'm a checkpoint Captain in the Merchant Quarter. If you're here for juma juice, it's not that good. But at least it's cheap. I don't think Bith have the same sense of taste we do.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I'll be going now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Can't find a better place to drink? I can't, either.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. How is the checkpoint? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. You seem tired.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Long day, as always. Sullio was captain of that checkpoint for years. I never knew why she came here every night until I got her job.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What's so tough about it? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. What's so tough about your day?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: We stand at the checkpoints all day long. It gets hot out there, and my feet are always killing me. But now I'm in charge and everybody's problems are mine. So I have to deal with all the people begging to get out of the city. Every one of them's got a story. Let me tell you, there are a lot of sad stories out there.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Tell me about Sullio.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Hm. She was murdered. I didn't want her job, but I got it now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What do you know about the murder?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: The same as everyone. People are trying to blame that doctor, Dhagon Ghent. I don't think even command believe he did it. But someone's got to take the blame. I - I almost think that the investigators aren't really looking. Dhagon's convenient and they don't want to find the real murderer.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. You sound nervous. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. You were considering leaving Iziz, right?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Sullio was murdered. Maybe even assassinated. I might be a little paranoid.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: I have a wife and daughter to look after. And I feel like I'm a target now. I'm tempted to just grab my family and take the first shuttle out of here.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [Persuade] That sounds like a good idea. You need to think of your family first.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: [Failure] I really am torn. There are days... There are some days where I think I'm a fool to stay.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [Force Persuade] You've had enough, it's time to leave. For your children.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: [Failure] I've gone over this so many times. Ughh... No, I still don't know what to do.
Persuade 2. [Persuade (17)] You're right to worry. I know people want to get rid of the captains.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: [Success] I... believe you. How can you... ? Nevermind that. I think it may be a good idea to turn in my notice. I - I appreciate the warning. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Whatever you say. There are a lot wild rumors around. You sound earnest. Heh, but so do a lot of people. Look. I've had a rough day. So if you don't mind, I'd like some time to myself.

Threatening him is easier, but success moves you closer to the dark side of the Force:

Persuade 3. [Persuade / Threat (10)] You should leave Iziz quickly. If you don't...
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: So the rumors are true. If you're working with who I think you are, I'll leave. Right now. Just don't hurt my family. I promise I won't tell anyone. I'll be on the first shuttle out. Uh... I'll be going. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Is? Is that a threat? You haven't exactly been discrete since you arrived here. People are bound to notice if you do anything to me. So there's nothing you can do to me without being thrown in jail. You're being watched.
KotOR Icon Dark.png Dark Side Points Gained: -4 KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I'm sure I can convince someone to change your mind. Change it hard.

Otherwise, you can now go to the the bar at the back of the left wing of the cantina and tell the Bith bartender Bahima that you're having some trouble with a certain guard captain:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Bahima: What brings you to Bahima this time, sentient?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I'm having some trouble with a certain guard captain...
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Bahima: Of the many spiritual duties a bartender requires among my people, what you are asking is not one. Perhaps we could talk of something else later.

You can do likewise with Sakarie in the top right quarter of the cantina's hub:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Sakarie: Do you have a visa yet? I'm still paying very well for it. Some unique items you won't get anywhere else - including a lightsaber crystal. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Sakarie: Are you satisfied with your payment for the visa? I can exchange it for something else if you like.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 5. I'm having some trouble with a guard captain...
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Sakarie: Aren't we all? But there's nothing I can do to help with that. My backside is still scorched from the heat I've got recently. Ask around elsewhere.

You have to speak to Panar of the Beastrider Gang in the right wing of the Iziz cantina, and pay him to change Gelesi's mind:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I'm having some trouble with a guard captain...
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: And right when I thought you were boring, you've gone and got interesting. Go on.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I need someone to be taken care of. Permanently.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: Sorry, not with a guard captain. That's the death mark, there.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I just need him to leave the military.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: He owe you money? Actually, it's better if I don't know. Just give me a name and 500 credits and we got a deal. We'll pay this guard captain a visit and turn the old hydro-spanner on him a couple times.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. He needs to be frightened. Roughed up a bit. I want him gone from Iziz. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I need you to persuade him to step down from his command. The details aren't important. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. He needs to leave Iziz. Frighten him, scare him, do what you must. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I just need him out of the city.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: That I can do. All I need to know is who and whether or not you got 500 credits. With those two, we can do some business.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I've changed my mind. I'll be going.
Persuade 2. [Persuade] Gelesi, and you'll do it for less.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: [Failure] It's 500 credits or nothing. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: [Success (8)] All right, 400 credits. But that's as low as I'll go. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: [Success (16)] Fine, we'll do it for 200 credits. Bakkel has been wanting to send the guard captains a message, anyway.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Gelesi, and here. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Here you go.
KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Lost: 500 KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Lost: 400 KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Lost: 200
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: Pleasure doing business with you. He's right over there, isn't he? Just wait a little while.
KotOR Icon Dark.png Dark Side Points Gained: -4
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: How can I... help you?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: We need a word with you outside. Let's take a walk. Someplace quiet.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: Now wait just a moment!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: I hear your daughter just turned four, is it? Good age. And a pretty young wife. Don't make this hard, Gelesi. We just want to talk.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Gelesi: All right... Let's go.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Panar: You need any more work done, just come to me.

If you return to Anda after eliminating him and can ask her to tell you about these captains, then Gelesi:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: It seems the young Captain Gelesi has booked passage for a shuttle leaving Iziz tomorrow morning. He won't be a problem to us any longer, well done. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Poor Gelesi appears to have been involved in a serious bar room brawl. Only a few scrapes and bruises, but he has requested a reassignment. I have been told command will generously grant this request. Well done.

Riiken[edit]

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: He's been responsible for the Merchant Quarter for years. He has been chastised repetitively for his criticism of General Vaklu. His years of service won't protect him if he continues to subvert the chain of command. He has received several warnings. With a nudge he just may get a dishonorable discharge.

Captain Riiken stands at the base of the Turret Tower on the inside bottom corner of the merchant quarter. Now after commenting on there being a lot of soldiers around, then asking him if he could tell you about the troubles:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Why don't you tell me what you really think?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: Yes, tell them what you really think, Riiken.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: I don't think so. I know you'd like nothing better than me getting drummed out of the military. But I'm not going to say a word.
Low (Affect Mind) 1. [Force Persuade] The urge to speak your mind must be overpowering. Say what you really mean.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: [Failure] I - I don't think I will. You've got a strange way with words, off-worlder. But I'd rather keep my job.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Can we talk about something else?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Gladly, this is a topic I'd much rather avoid.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Persuade] How will it get better if people are afraid to speak out? It's just a form of cowardice.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: [Failure] It's not that simple. Soldiers are guardians. We protect people. But if they get too political then it enters dangerous territory. It can even lead to a coup d'etat.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: Are you implying something, Riiken?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: The only thing I'm implying is that it's my duty as a soldier to keep politics at home. On the job I respect the rank and the chain of command.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [Persuade] Not all orders should be followed. Not all people should be respected. What of your moral responsibilities? Persuade 2. [Persuade (< 13)] You hide behind your shaky rationales build of fear and weakness. You don't have the strength to live by your beliefs.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: [Failure] I'm doing what I feel is right. Are you? That's something that each person has to answer for themself. This topic is leading nowhere except for trouble for me. So help a guy out? Let's talk about something else. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: [Failure] If that's the way you feel, then we don't have much to talk about.

If you fail to persuade him after telling him he doesn't have the strength to live by his beliefs then, not only does this end the dialog now, it prevents you from trying again when you next comment on there being a lot of soldiers around:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: We've covered that already. And as much as I'd like to, I'm not going to talk to you about it any more.

You can only persuade him with the Force if you can dominate minds. Otherwise, your first option to persuade him with skill always fails, and only one of the two subsequent options can succeed:

High (Dominate Mind) 1. [Force Persuade] The urge to speak your mind must be overpowering. Say what you really mean. Persuade 2. [Persuade (13)] You hide behind your shaky rationales build of fear and weakness. You don't have the strength to live by your beliefs.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: [Success] What I really mean? General Vaklu... Vaklu may be a war hero, but everything he's done since the war has been poison for us - and the Republic. There are rumors, always spoken quietly, that he has made alliances with dark powers. Things worse than the Freedon Nadd movement from our past. I think- KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Strength? It's not about strength. The military is being corrupted by the General. If those faithful to the Queen don't steer clear of Vaklu's kath hou-
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: That's enough! You may be the Queen's pawn, Riiken, but you will not rail against a brilliant General like Vaklu.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Can't you see it? He's slick with words, but Vaklu's inner circle are responsible for dark deeds. Anyone that speaks out against him is labeled a Rebel spy. You think the Republic needs a few hundred spies in Iziz? Most "spies" are picked up in raids and never heard from again. It's just wrong.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: I will see you are relieved of your command for this. Your mouth just ended your career. No matter how distinguished your war record is, it is over.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: I don't know how much more help I'll be... I won't be in the military too much longer.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: It's the off-worlder. Listen, let's keep this brief. I've probably lost my command already because of the conversation we had. I don't see how it could get worse, but the galaxy has a funny sense of humor about that.

If you fail to persuade him after telling him he doesn't have the strength to live by his beliefs, return to Anda and ask her to tell you about these captains, then Riiken:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I tried talking with him - but had no success.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Then my recommendation is to bide your time. Eventually an opportunity may present itself. He does occasionally patrol the run down part of the Merchant Quarter by himself. Perhaps your paths may cross then.

Once Dhagon Ghent has been released, when you leave his office in the top left corner of the western square then Captain Riiken appears outside the cantina at the bottom end, unless you've already eliminated him by persuading him to tell you what he really thinks back at the turret tower.

[Captain Riiken is patrolling the Western Square.]
[You can try to ambush him. It would be best to do it when there are no witnesses around.]

He starts his patrol by exiting the square by the street in its bottom right corner, walking back towards the merchant quarter. After you speak to him he stands still, so if you want there to be no witnesses then you shouldn't do so until he reaches the end of the street:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Riiken: Stay out of trouble. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 5. Good advice. I'll be going now.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. You're the one that's in trouble. I'm here to kill you. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Vaklu wishes you dead. I'm here to grant his wish. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. When they find your body, they will have to sew you back together for your funeral. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I'm going to kill you, but I want you to know it is just business, not personal.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Beast-rider Thug: [Success] Okay, okay... I wont say a word to the authorities. Please, don't hurt me! KotORII Icon Dialog.png Beast-rider Thug: [Failure] You just murdered this man in cold blood! I need to get out of here... KotORII Icon Dialog.png Beast-rider Thug: [Success] I didn't see anything. The Jedi did not murder Captain Riiken.

If you speak to a thug in the Western Square, or Iziz Cantina:

Rumor has it you spaced that soldier captain. Maybe you Republic types aren't so bad.
Shame about the missing captain. They're probably going to increase patrols around here now.

If you speak to an Iziz citizen in the merchant quarter, or an Onderon soldier back in the Iziz Spaceport:

Captain Riiken isn't back from his patrol yet. I hope he's all right.
We're still searching for Captain Riiken. If you have any information let the Onderon military know.

If you return to Anda after eliminating him and can ask her to tell you about these captains, then Riiken:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Poor Riiken couldn't keep his opinions to himself. He hasn't lost his command yet, but he will shortly. Excellent job. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: I heard he met with a tragic accident while on patrol. But for us, it isn't entirely bad news. So we will manage somehow. I hope that the credits I gave you will make this hard time easier for you.

Bostuco[edit]

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: A true veteran, years of honorable service. Completely dedicated to the Queen. Sadly I think he is more on our side than the Queen's. But he is an old soldier that can't adapt to today's... complex situation. Regardless of what the best interests of Onderon are, he won't swerve from executing the Queen's misguided decrees.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Persuasion may be ineffective. Take this military security card. It can be used to slice into security terminals. Perhaps you will find solutions there. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: I doubt simple persuasion will be enough to change his mind. I hope the security card I gave you may be of help.
Item(s) Received Anda
  • Iziz Military Security Card
This is an Iziz Military Security Card used to interface with the security terminals throughout the Merchant Quarter. It is partially damaged and is malfunctioning. It displays no information about the identity of the original owner.

Captain Bostuco guards the entrance to the Sky Ramp, on the top side of the street exiting the left side of the market square. Now after asking who he is, if he could tell you about the Wall, why he isn't on it anymore and commenting that he doesn't sound too pleased about his post:

Low (Affect Mind) 1. [Force Persuade] Tell me your feelings. Persuade 2. [Persuade (8)] It seems such a distinguished officer would be of more use somewhere else.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: [Success] I... I feel a little light-headed. Let me tell you what I feel. I have many good years of service left in me. I feel like I'm being set aside. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: [Success] You're right, I have many good years of service left in me. Yet I feel like I am being set aside.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: They said they needed their best men here. But Sky Ramp duty has always been relegated to fresh officers.

Reassuring him moves you closer to the light side of the Force, but prevents you from persuading him to request reassignment:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. If there's a civil war, the attack will come from inside the city. Guarding the Sky Ramps will be very important.
KotOR Icon Light.png Light Side Points Gained: +2
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: I can't imagine it would come to a civil war. But you might be right. Maybe the reassignment was for the best.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: Thank you for the conversation earlier. It was good to hear an outsider's perspective. I still can't allow you to go up the Sky Ramp, though.

However, he can only be persuaded to request reassignment if you can affect minds:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. If you're that unhappy, you should request to be reassigned to the Wall.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: I couldn't do that. I heard the reassignments came from the Queen herself.
Low (Affect Mind) 1. [Force Persuade] You should request reassignment. Immediately. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Persuade] Certainly your superiors would grant you a transfer, if you asked.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: [Success] I... I will request reassignment. Immediately. Troops, man the checkpoint without me. I must... leave... at once. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: I'm a soldier and it's my duty to serve. Now be on your way. You've wasted enough of my time.

Otherwise, the only other option to eliminate him is to use the security terminal mounted on the top wall in the top right quarter of the Market Square:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Computer] Use Iziz military security card.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: CAMERA RECORDS ERASED...
ID RECORDS ERASED...
ACCESS GRANTED
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: ENTER COMMAND
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [Computer] Access security cameras. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Computer] Return to camera root menu.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: SECURITY CAMERAS ACCESSED
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [Computer] CAM-501A Market Square KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Computer] CAM-502B Sky Ramp Checkpoint
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: CAM-501A SUB MENU KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: CAM-502B SUB MENU
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [Computer] Switch to camera.

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: [SUCCESS] SWITCHING TO CAMERA. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: [FAILURE] ACCESS DENIED

KotOR Icon Dark.png Dark Side Points Gained: -6

This kills Captain Bostuco and two Onderon soldiers. If you try to access CAM-502B Sky Ramp Checkpoint again after overloading the power conduit, then access system commands:

Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: SECURITY CAMERA ERROR

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: [SUCCESS] AREA SCHEMATICS UPLOADED KotORII Icon Dialog.png Security Terminal: [FAILURE] ACCESS DENIED

The bare-headed Onderon soldier and two others are still guarding the entrance to the Sky Ramp:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: There has been a serious accident here. The Sky Ramp is closed to all personnel pending an investigation. Leave now.
There was an alert over by the Sky Ramp earlier. I hope it's settled now.

Iziz citizens will comment on it:

Have you heard any news about the Sky Ramp? Is it true that it was another Republic attack?
I hear the Republic attacked the Sky Ramp!

Even the dock worker and citizens back in the Iziz Spaceport have heard about it, as have the thugs in the Western Square, and the elderly male patron in the top right quarter of the Iziz cantina on its bottom side:

Another worker said that the Sky Ramp got bombed or something. I think he was making lame excuses for another late delivery.
Did you hear that there was some trouble over at the Sky Ramp? I hope no one was hurt.
Security's gonna be tight after what happened over at the Sky Ramp.
I overheard some soldiers talking about explosions on the Sky Ramp. It sounds like sabotage.

If you return to Anda after eliminating him and can ask her to tell you about these captains, then Bostuco:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: He has requested reassignment back to the Wall. I am impressed that you were able to influence him at all. I can see that I was right to ask for your help. You're quite persuasive. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Anda: Your solution was... extreme. But the results are acceptable. The military has closed off the entrance to the Sky Ramp. The royalist Bostuco has been dealt with. Well done.

Politics[edit]

On the left side of the market square, a Devaronian and a Twi'lek are discussing politics: you can avoid joining in by hugging the top wall as you pass. Otherwise, if Visas has joined your party then add her before approaching them, to get a chance to influence her:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: But General Vaklu would cut himself off from the many planets of Republic. This is foolish. In solitude no civilization prospers.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: You don't understand the people of Onderon. They are proud and have fought many adversities to get where they are, mostly by themselves, too. They have given much to the Republic, and see little in return. General Vaklu believes independence would be in Iziz's best interest.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: But Republic fight battles to free Onderon from Mandalorian warriors. Should be thankful. Queen Talia is young but looks after her people. She should be honored.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: The Mandalorians would never have been on that moon if it weren't for Exar Kun, and he was a fallen Jedi. I think General Vaklu is right.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What do you think of Queen Talia?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: Talia works with Republic. She rules peaceably, and is popular with her people.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: Her intentions are good, I admit. But those close to power see the mistakes she makes. Nobles, high-ranking military, they all support General Vaklu. She does not have the experience of governing, which Iziz needs in these times.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I don't know much about General Vaklu.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: Vaklu lies. He twists words and tries to take heart of people away from their rightful Queen. He is schutta.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: He is a war hero, leader of the resistance during the Mandalorian Wars. A man of vision with experience. He... may not tell all the truth, but he works for the best interest of the people. Many realize this.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: He would start war to oust the good Queen. The suffering he would bring is wrong.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. There would be deep consequences if Onderon secedes from the Republic.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: The Republic is ailing, independence may serve many planets better.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: In time of need, we should lend aid. Wars hurt Republic, but Republic protected us all. For future conflict, government will protect again.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I don't want to get involved. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: Let's discuss this further at the cantina.

Otherwise, once you've asked two of those three questions:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Who do you trust more?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: Human ask good question. I don't trust Vaklu. He lies to people, has been caught in them before. Talia honorable.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: The question is unfair. Sometimes leaders know things the rest of us can't know. I may... not trust everything he says, or his people say. But he is also a man of honor. He never breaks a promise.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: But if you can't trust your leader's words, then how can you trust their motives? Human sentient, what do you think?
KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: Yes, human sentient, I want to hear the answer to this, as well. Do you stand with youthful idealism? Or with political pragmatism?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: I also confess, I am curious what you think.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 6. I'm not going to get into this.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: I have pushed away the human sentient. My apology to you.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Trusting your leaders is crucial. I'd rather support Queen Talia. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. The Queen is Onderon's rightful ruler. Deposing her would be treason.
Influence Lost: Visas (-8)
KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: She is a reed in the wind, too frail to stay in place. She will be blown in every direction, and ultimately to no advantage for herself or her people.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Do not judge solely by what is, but by what it may become. Experience can be gained, integrity is something innate. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. But she's a whole lot better than Vaklu.
Influence Gained: Visas (+8) KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: Are you so certain? Vaklu is strong, capable, and is willing to take risks to get what he wants. The world of substance has little place for absolutes of ideology.
KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: You are so naive as well.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I tire of discussing this. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I'll be going.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: I agree with you, human sentient. Queen Talia has good thoughts and instincts. She will be a great leader.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Vaklu sounds capable and has ambition. Drive and experience is a powerful combination. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. The Republic has taken advantage of Onderon. A little revolution, now and again, can be a good thing. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 5. I'll lend support to whomever serves my interests better.
Influence Gained: Visas (+8)
KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: Vaklu is my choice, as well. Politics is filled with those who react. Vaklu is someone who acts. There is an emptiness in the galaxy. A vacuum that begs to be filled. He may go far in his path. KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: Practical and efficient. An attitude that can take you far in life.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: You see, I told you. Even the outsider can see the wisdom in supporting General Vaklu. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: I was hoping you would help clarify this discussion. Your answer does little to address the political situation.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Devaronian: But this course could lead to war!
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: Some wars are inevitable. But perhaps the Queen can be made to see reason.

In every case, they leave for the cantina in the western square:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Twi'lek: Let us discuss this further at the cantina. Thank you for the conversation, human.

Sky Ramp[edit]

The entrance to the Sky Ramp is on the top side of the street exiting the left side of the market square. Captain Bostuco and five Onderon soldiers guard it. If you speak to the Captain, or try to enter the Sky Ramp:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: The Sky Ramp is restricted to military personnel only. Stay clear of here, off-worlder.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What's the Sky Ramp?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: The Sky Ramp leads to the battlements, and this particular ramp leads straight to the Palace itself. No civilians are allowed past this point.
Impossible 1. [Force Persuade] Let me pass. I need to reach the Palace.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: [Failure] I... I will let you... no. No, you're not permitted past this point.
KotORII Icon Kreia.png Kreia: Loyalty can prove an effective wall to your talents. But there may be a way to undermine it... if one looks for it. KotORII Icon Visas.png Visas: His loyalty runs deep. But perhaps there is another route to the control you seek.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: I suggest you move along, off-worlder... before you test my patience any further.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. [Persuade] Let me speak to someone in charge.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: [Failure] I'm the one in charge here, off-worlder. If you try to get past me, then you'll have the entire Iziz garrison on you in seconds.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I'm on an important mission. I need to see someone in the Palace.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: There's no chance of that, off-worlder. The Palace is locked down tight, and only authorized personnel are allowed in.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I'll be going now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: I told you before, off-worlder, the Sky Ramp is restricted to military personnel only. Now move along.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Who are you?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: I am Captain Bostuco. I have served loyally in the Onderon military for twenty years.
KotORII Icon Mandalore.png Mandalore: Twenty years would mean you were here during the Mandalorian Wars, right?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: I was a soldier when the Mandalorians took our world, and I fought in the resistance. When we drove them from Onderon, I served on the Wall for ten years after.
KotORII Icon Mandalore.png Mandalore: You mean after the Jedi drove the Mandalorians from Onderon. The Mandalorians never gave ground to any Onderon soldier.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: Such a view could be considered treason. Onderon was responsible for much of the fighting during the last days of the war. Without General Vaklu, the Republic would have fallen.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What do you think of General Vaklu?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: General Vaklu is my superior officer, and I respect the chain of command. He kept the resistance alive when the Mandalorians were destroying our world.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Could you tell me about the Wall?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: The Wall is the barrier between Iziz and the Onderon wilderness. For hundreds of years we kept the city free of beasts and beast-rider scum. The greatest honor for an officer is to serve on the Wall. Many aspire to the post, but few are worthy of it.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Why aren't you on the Wall any more?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: I was requested to guard the Sky Ramp in the Merchant Quarter.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. You don't sound too pleased about your post.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Captain Bostuco: My personal feelings on the matter are irrelevant. I received an order, and I carried it out.

If you speak to the bare-headed Onderon soldier to the right of Captain Bostuco:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: The Sky Ramp is restricted to military personnel only. Um... move along.

If you try to use the security terminal mounted on the right wall:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Onderon Soldier: This terminal isn't for offworlders, or civilians for that matter. I suggest you back away.
Didn't I make myself clear? Leave the terminal alone.

Western Square[edit]

The street to the left of the Sky Ramp in the top left corner of the merchant quarter continues to the western square. Prepare for combat!
