Map of the mining tunnels

While T3-M4 worked on your Rescue in the hangar bay and fuel depot, your main character waited with Atton by the administration level's computer:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: So, uh, how long have you been a Jedi? Must be tough, you know... no family, no husband... KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: So is that stupid droid of yours going to come through or not?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. No tougher than enduring your false sympathy while you're staring at my chest. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Are you trying to anger me, or are you just an idiot? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I don't really want to talk about it. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Give him a little more time. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. It's not my droid. I don't know who he belongs to.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Hey, I wasn't try- KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: All right, all r- KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Well, I'm beginning to think I was a little better off in my c-

The administration level's Emergency Hatch is now open!

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Hey, what do you know - that little cargo cylinder came through.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. It looks like it. But it's strange he didn't contact us on the comm. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. We'll see - I don't believe we're out of this yet.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: If he got the turbolifts working, then we should have a clear run to the hangar.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. The turbolifts are locked down manually, so I had him open the emergency hatch. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. "We" don't have a clear run to the hangar - all that's open is the emergency hatch.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Wait, wait. Don't tell me you're taking that hatch down into the mining tunnels... are you? That explosion I heard came from below. There's probably nothing down there except superheated rock and collapsed blast tunnels. You'd be an idiot to go down there.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. If it's dangerous in those tunnels, then you're the one going, not me.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Me?! You're the Jedi - if one of us has to go, then it's you. Guardians of peace and justice throughout the galaxy, last I heard.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. The Jedi Code doesn't apply to fallen Jedi, so don't make me any angrier, or there will only be one of us standing here.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: There's no way I'm going down there. You might as well lock me up again if you freed me just to throw me into a nest of gundarks.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Forget it then, you coward. I'll find a way out of this mess, then leave you on this rock to die. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I don't have time for your cowardice. Stay here, then.
KotOR Icon Dark.png Dark Side Points Gained: -1
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: I'll take coward over stupid any day. I'll keep the comlink on just in case you need some help... not that I'll come running, mind you.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Maybe, but it's the only way out, and it's better I risk my life than yours. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. A Jedi's life is sacrifice - besides, someone's got to save our skins. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. You're right, I'll take the risk. No sense in both of us risking our lives.
KotOR Icon Light.png Light Side Points Gained: +1
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: You're either really brave or really crazy - or both. All right - I'll try to monitor things from up here. Be careful - the only thing moving down there is likely to be mining droids, so don't be playing hero too hard. Uh, not that I care what happens to you or anything. I just don't want to be trying to get off this rock by myself.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Got it. See you soon. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Your concern is noted. I'll be going now.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: I'll keep the comlink open... I may be able to guide you through the tunnels from up here. Don't know if the signal will hold if you get too deep, though.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. [You have received a comlink. Party members or others may use it to contact you to help you or provide information.]
Item(s) Received Atton
  • Comlink
Comlinks are a standard, short range communication device. [Party members can use it to contact you to provide information or warn you of danger.]
Journal Entry Added Recover Ebon Hawk
T3 has managed to open up a route from the administration level down to the mining tunnels. From there, you'll need to see if there is a way from the tunnels through the fuel depot to the hangar bay.
Journal Entry Added Rescue T3-M4
You lost contact with T3 after he opened the emergency hatch to the administration level... you have no idea what happened to him.

Your main character received none of the experience earned by T3-M4. Atton has nothing new to say, and if you use the administration computer to access the comm system and select Hangar Bay 25:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Administration Computer: There is no response from the comm. Presumably, T3 is no longer near the hangar bay.

You need to go to the emergency hatch, back between the security room and medical bay, and take the turbolift to the mining tunnels.

Turbolift to Administration Level[edit]

The turbolift from the administration level is on the bottom left end of the mining tunnels. As you cross the room to the door in the top right wall opposite, Atton uses the comlink:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Can you read me?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Barely - there's a lot of static. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Yes... for a minute, I thought you and Kreia were telepathic.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. What do you want? KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: What did you say? Your signal's crammed with static.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: There's a lot of interference down there - probably caused by that explosion. Still, it looks like there's a route down to the Peragus fuel depot, if the passages haven't collapsed. That explosion knocked out most of the sensors. There should be an emergency crate in the next room. Watch yourself. There's a lot of droid broadcasts in that area, but I can't pin them down.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. I'll be careful, then. If you detect anything, signal me. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Alert me immediately if you pick up anything else.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Will do - and be careful down there.

Otherwise:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. Stay off the comlink - I don't want you contacting me while I'm down here. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. I don't want any of your advice from now on, so keep this channel clear. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. If you have anything else useless to say in the future, keep it to yourself.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: If you can handle yourself, fine - I'm just looking out for my own skin. Atton out.

Atton using the comlink doesn't cancel Stealth mode. Beyond the door is a short corridor with another door at its top right end, a plasteel cylinder by its bottom wall to your right, and a broken droid in its top back corner to your left:

Item(s) Received Broken Droid Item(s) Received Plasteel Cylinder Item(s) Received Plasteel Cylinder

Once you've checked the cylinder, if you haven't yet told Atton you don't want any of his advice:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Find the emergency supplies?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Yes... and it looks like there's some clothes in here. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Looks like some mining gear - and a uniform.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Dammit! Uh... I mean, good, good to hear it. No sense in you running around half-naked. It's...it's distracting... I mean, for the droids. KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: About time. The whole half-naked Jedi thing was wearing a little thin.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Look, there may be some survey gear and a safety harness inside the crate, too. The miners wear them when staking claims on the asteroids. The survey gear is designed to spot and protect you against sonic mines... and the safety harness can be helpful if you try to disarm them.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. There's some kind of mining energy shield in this crate, too.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Yeah, it's like a military-issue energy shield, except it's designed to protect the miners against lasers... and heat. Should work against the droid mining lasers. It won't last forever - and certainly not against multiple laser hits - but it may buy you some time if you get ambushed by a battalion of droids.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Sounds useful. How do I use it? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. How comforting. Tell me how it works.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Just equip it on your wrist, and then you can activate it like a medpac. Again, it won't last forever, so make it count.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Understood. Anything else? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Got it. Let's go.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Uh, just one more thing - I've narrowed down some of the ID signals, and if the numbers are right, you're sharing those tunnels with a battalion of mining droids.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Can I sneak by them?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: You could, if you have the skill and a stealth field generator. These droids rely on thermal sensors, primarily to detect fuel deposits. The good thing is, that explosion down there kicked up so much heat and steam it may blind them... a bit, but not much.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Any advice on taking out these droids? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. And if they spot me?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Well, these are construction models... they shoot like a moisture farmer militia. Since they rely on ranged weapons, get in close with a melee weapon and start bashing them. In close combat, the guy with the vibroblade has the edge over the guy with the rifle, droid or not. Otherwise, just drill them from a distance - if they're not shielded, that is.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Shielded?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Yeah, it's possible some of the droid models may have mining shields on. If so, the shields may absorb laser fire. You can usually tell when a shield is active - it'll make an electrical field around the target. If they activate a shield, the best thing you can do is hit them with a melee weapon or try to burn out the shield with continual fire. But that could take a while, and it leaves you a target.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. I can handle it - just guide me out of here. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. I'll do that. Anything else?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: There's got to be some central controller down there. See if you can find a terminal by the main access shaft: that'd be governing intelligence.

The corridor beyond the next door is empty, and leads through another door to a junction. The bottom right corridor is mined, and if you haven't yet told Atton you don't want any of his advice:

Awareness Minor Sonic Mine (2) Detect 10 (-10) Demolitions Disable 15 (-5) Recover 25 (5)
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Watch where you step - I'm picking up a lot of sonic mines down there. Don't run unless you have to, it makes them harder to spot.
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: If you have any skill with demolitions, you might be able to recover them and use them against the droids... that is, if the mines don't get you first. If you have survey gear or a safety harness, put them on - they'll make spotting and disarming the sonic charges a little easier.

If you haven't checked the plasteel cylinder back in the first bottom left corridor:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. Where can I find survey gear?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: There was a cylinder filled with emergency supplies near the hatch to the administration level - I'd check there.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Why are there so many charges down here?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Those mining droids, especially the excavator models, are designed to arm and set sonic charges for mining. Chances are, if they still had charges after they went rogue, then they may have set them to try and kill the miners... and you. If you see one of those excavators, watch out - they may use their undeployed charges as projectiles.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. Understood. Name out. KotORII Icon Dialog.png 5. I'll do that.

If you haven't put a point in Demolitions to disable or recover these mines, and you don't have Stun Droid to trigger them from range, then if you're careful you can walk between them to get to the broken droid at the end of this corridor, where the tunnel has collapsed. There's another broken droid in the top right corridor, which is blocked by a door.

Superheated Blast Tunnel[edit]

There's also a corpse lying at the top end of the cavern:

Item(s) Received Corpse

As you approach the blast tunnel exiting the top right corner of this cavern, if you haven't yet told Atton you don't want any of his advice:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Hey, watch out. That explosion has super-heated the tunnels ahead. That steam'll cook the skin off your bones. If you can find a mining energy shield, switch it on - it should protect you against the heat if you move quickly enough.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. And if I don't have a shield?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: There was one in the emergency supply crate near the entrance. And one of the miners down there may still have one they couldn't switch on before the blast hit. Look around. If you can't find one, there's nothing much you can do except try and avoid the areas where the steam is thickest.

Each hot steam vent in the tunnel inflicts 2-4 fire damage on first contact and every 6 seconds thereafter: even if you run straight through you can take damage up to a dozen times, so using a Telos Mining Shield is highly recommended (particularly on Difficult).

There's a second junction at the right end of the superheated blast tunnel, which is mined:

Awareness Minor Sonic Mine (2) Detect 10 (-10) Demolitions Disable 15 (-5) Recover 25 (5)

The bottom left and right corridors have collapsed, but the bottom right is mined and contains a corpse:

The top right tunnel contains a broken droid, three Mark I mining droids (two melee and one ranged (and shielded)), a Mark I excavator droid and a maintenance droid:

Central Mining Core[edit]

As you approach the bottom end of the top right tunnel from the second junction, if you haven't yet told Atton you don't want any of his advice:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: You're getting close to something big - I think it's the main ventilation shaft. The central droid controller should be somewhere nearby. Keep an eye out for it. I'm picking up a lot of droids. If you still have a mining energy shield, I'd equip it and switch it on.

If you have Stealth rank > 0:

Stealth 1. Can I sneak by them? Stealth 1. Any chance of sneaking by the droids ahead?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Sure, if you have a stealth field generator. It'd make it an easy walk to the central droid controller.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. There aren't just mining droids down here - there are sensor balls, too.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Sensor...? Must be maintenance drones. Watch out, those little pests will try to repair the mining droids if you don't gun them down first. Still, it's odd they're still active after the explosion - they don't have the same shielding as the mining droids. Be careful of those droids, I don't like this.

There's a bridge across the main ventilation shaft in the central mining core ahead, with a corpse on its top half, and a Mark I excavator droid on the top right and bottom left sides of the walkway around the shaft's perimeter.

Item(s) Received Corpse Experience Points (XP) Received:

Containment fields in the four corners block any exit, so you need to shut them down using the central controller in the middle of the bridge. There's a plasteel cylinder to its left:

In hindsight, to maximize experience and components received you would run or sneak past the first 18 droids and use the central controller to cancel all droid mining functions on organics (1800 XP) and shut down containment fields, then scavenge components from all 32 Mark I droids (maximum 160 in total), and then use the central controller to add other droids to their mining protocols so they can be attacked again, and killed to receive even more experience.

If you reassign mining protocols to mine sealed doors, then a new Mark I mining droid appears by the High Security Door beyond the containment field in the core's bottom right corner, and bashes it open from the inside:

This droid is unaffected by the central controller, so it remains hostile... but it can be blinded...

Checking droid schematics and then raising the temperature to blind the droids costs nothing, but allows you to attack them without them attacking you. However, if you didn't ask Atton if you could sneak by them when you found the emergency supplies, then this is only an option if you have sufficient Intelligence, or Computer Use or Repair skill, to work it out for yourself:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png 4. Check droid schematics.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Central Controller: [Judging from the droid schematic displays, it looks like Atton was right: the droids rely on thermal sensors to detect fuel deposits. You could easily blind them by raising the temperature.]

Once the containment fields are shut down, you can get to two Mark I mining droids (both ranged, one shielded) in the core's bottom left corner. There's a third droid (ranged and shielded) in the bottom left corridor, which also contains a broken droid and is blocked by a door:

Turbolift to Fuel Depot[edit]

As you enter the bottom right corridor in the central mining core's bottom right corner:

KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: Hey, I'm picking up some strange readings - what are you doing down there?
Dialog
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. What kind of readings? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. What are you talking about? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Trust me, whatever you've detected, it's probably my fault.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: The containment fields in the mining tunnels are shutting down - you need to get out of there before they vent fuel to the surface of the asteroid through the tunnels.
KotORII Icon Dialog.png 1. How much time do I have? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 2. Great. How much farther is the exit? KotORII Icon Dialog.png 3. Can you override it?
KotORII Icon Dialog.png Atton: I may be able to keep it contained until you get the turbolift to the fuel depot, but not for much longer. I'm locking down the turbolift to the administration section now to keep the blast from spreading. If you've got anything left to do down there, make it quick, because where you are is going to get real hot, real soon.

Atton has now locked the Turbolift to Administration Level behind you, and can keep the impending blast contained until you take the turbolift to the fuel depot.

The corridor curves up to your left, where there's a ranged Mark I mining droid, and it's mined.
