  • Rocky, you bring up an excellent point. I actually don't know anything about the specific additions to the GBA version. It seems to me that the GBA specific information should be moved to the GBA version page. The way we used to have parent game relationships, but now I think we just use ToC transclusion. This issue should be resolved before the guide is promoted.
    • I have it but it's the american version (Ebay, I hate you) so sorry but I can't help you with this one.--Rocky Rally-X Rock.png (Talk - Contributions) 13:49, 11 August 2007 (CDT)
      • There hasn't been much discussion of this point, and so far the only person that I've spoken to who objects to those sections being moved is Prod. Quite frankly, he has a good point, using my own prior work against me (grrr…). He points out that I put Pokémon Yellow information in the Pokémon Red and Blue walkthrough. While that is a valid point, I counter with the fact that there is no Yellow information outside of the walkthrough (in what would be considered the appendix if Pok.R&B had an appendix). In fact, features new to Pokémon Yellow that don't quite fit in the walkthrough can be found on their own page exclusive to the Yellow guide. Therefore, it would not be against precedence to move the appendix information out of the SNES guide and into the GBA guide. I'd like to get some kind of consensus on how everyone else feels. Procyon (Talk) 15:22, 12 August 2007 (CDT)
        • I've decided that I'm completely undecided about transclusion versus inclusion >.<. I'm trying to decide on a proper scheme for this right now. I'm currently at: If there is a completely new section to the game, that gets it's page within it's separate guide, and you transclude the original toc with the new pages added on (the "what's new" page in Pokemon Yellow). If there are minor additions (like an extra item in a specific location) that belongs with the main guide (like the fact that you can only start with pikachu). I would say this is featured as an SNES game, but not as a GBA game. The problem is, this messes with our one game one guide policy (now we're at 4 games (RGBY), one guide >_>) -- Prod (Talk) 15:54, 12 August 2007 (CDT)
          • To be honest, I'm kinda neutral in this but if you think about it, it'll be an easy 2nd stage 5 completed guide when it's done and that's a good thing, right guys. (Atm I think it's 1 stage 5 and 1 stage 3 guide at the moment). We need to bring this up in community issues and set a standard.(quickly said after conflict) Prod, it's a new game in there, the two slightly interling, you get the ridlle quest and a new sword technique and the palace of the flour sword in a link to the past--Rocky Rally-X Rock.png (Talk - Contributions) 15:57, 12 August 2007 (CDT)
            • I would have to argue that whatever our decision should be, it should not confuse the reader. If the reader has a copy of LttP for the GBA, they're going to look for our LttP guide, possibly without knowing there are multiple versions of the game (if they are a younger gamer, for instance). I suggest for simplicity's sake that we stick to inclusion (prevents redundancy and is better for SEO--search engines penalize duplicate content!) and outline any differences with special sidebars or pages as they are necessary. My two cents. echelontalk 20:11, 12 August 2007 (CDT)
              • I just realised, we'll need to add a section in the lost woods about not getting the Fake Swords (for the riddle quest), that's the only change I think of now--Rocky Rally-X Rock.png (Talk - Contributions) 03:36, 14 August 2007 (CDT)
    • I have gotten rid of the red links in the Zelda navigation bar at the bottom, so I think its truly worthy now. Once we solve the transclusion/etc. problem let's go ahead and make it official!--DukeRuckley 17:59, 13 August 2007 (CDT)

    • After thinking about Yellow for a while, I think we would have to promote it as well, because the featured template goes in the guide's ToC, and since Yellow transcludes the ToC from RB, it would get the star on its main page, even though it's only CS4. --Skizzerz_Scissors.png Safety Skizzerz {{ Talk | Contribs | Spel Chek™ | VFG | RTFM }} 17:20, 5 December 2007 (CST)
    • Yellow is largely the same as Red and Blue; its differences seem to have been covered quite thoroughly, so it should therefore be promoted as well. GarrettTalk 18:16, 5 December 2007 (CST)
  • Technically, the reason The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was promoted ahead of this guide was due to the fact that other than maps, it has few to no in-game screenshots, which it technically needs to reach level 5. For that reason, I will neither support, nor object the guide's nomination, and leave it up to everyone else. But I am flattered by the nomination, thanks :) Procyon (Talk) 17:35, 5 December 2007 (CST)
    • Actually, it doesn't need in-game screenshots. The only image criteria are that it a) has at least two per page (which it does), b) images are placed by text that relates to them (which they are), and c) images are correctly named and categorized (which they are). It says absolutely nothing about what type of images are required. --Skizzerz_Scissors.png Safety Skizzerz {{ Talk | Contribs | Spel Chek™ | VFG | RTFM }} 18:00, 5 December 2007 (CST)

Pocket Fighter is one of the last fighting games that I planned on working on, and in all honesty, I think that it came out the best. I had planned on nominating the Street Fighter II guide first (once I got all the moves pictured), but I put so much into this guide, I can't think of another thing to cram into it. I can't think of a reference of cameo that I didn't mention. For the record, this guide contains:

  • Individual character pages that feature an animate idle stance gif, fully illustrated Flash Combos guides showing every costume change, and of course a full move list indicating which moves are level up moves, for all 12 characters.
  • A Stage description page including a full capture of each stage (stitched together), and a list indicating every single cameo and reference that can be found.
  • An items page that identifies each item carrier, and the different item balls that you can collect.

So... while it could be expanded upon (like, by adding images of how each of the moves improve by levels, or all of the color selections... which I might add some day), I think it's pretty comprehensive state. Procyon (Talk) 22:10, 12 December 2007 (CST)

  • Well, it was a long hard struggle, but the guide is finally done. Lots of details, images, and diagrams, organized images; the works. Contains a full walkthrough, secrets, as well as level details, and complete magic, item, enemy, equipment, and weapon lists. There really isn't anything else that I can add at this point, so here it is. - Koweja 20:10, 6 March 2008 (CST)
  • I really don't like the black background on the maps, which I feel distracts the eye a bit too much, but that's not a major enough change to hold back the guide. As for the rest of the guide I would have put the item icons before the text (which is closer to how they are displayed in the game) and standardised the spacing between the text and icons, but that's a minor issue. Other than that it's all very nice. GarrettTalk 23:05, 10 April 2008 (CDT)
  • The item icons before the names would be an easy fix I believe since it's all done through a template (anyone want to debate one way or the other?) -- Prod (Talk) 15:19, 11 April 2008 (CDT)

          • There has been no agreement over whether the icons should be before or after the text (and it hasn't been changed one way or the other). That bosses toc is also far too wide on 1024x768 (which is by far our most common resolution). So I would say it is not yet ready for cs5. -- Prod (Talk) 18:18, 21 May 2008 (CDT)
            • I personally think the icons on the left looks fine. I can't really comment about the bosses page because it seems fine in my resolution... The only problem I'm seeing now is that a few of the pages are rather long, like the DSS page DrBob mentioned. Is there a way to cut that down a bit so it isn't so daunting to read?--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 08:02, 27 May 2008 (CDT)
              • Hmm, didn't even think to check the old Boss's TOC at a smaller resolution. I don't really like the automatic TOC either since the list is so long. I'll see what I can do about making a much shorter custom TOC. It doesn't really need links to each of the 5 strategies for each boss. As for the DSS page, the only thing that I can think to do is to break it into 10 different pages. - Koweja (Talk | Contributions) 15:58, 28 May 2008 (CDT)

  • I wonder if we should standardize the ToC look of this guide (this does NOT affect featured guide status... unless we require all featured guides to be completely standardized... which sounds like a good idea) - as it's three bullets rather than the standard setup (what we have in the pre-load button). We could expand the ToC links to the normal GS/Walkthrough sizes, then put the third page under Appendices... • Some of the layout in this guide is just plain wtf. The TOC (especially if it is small) should not be messed with unless it is for a good reason, and putting two random images up there is not one of them imo. Also, some of the pages need more images, and others need more original images (reusing an image is fine, but three times or more is a bit much. Images should relate to that section of the walkthrough, not just be there to make things look prettier. Also, if you hover over that http://strategywiki.org/w/skins/common/images/button_hr.png button, you'll notice the text "use sparingly." I've seen it used where it was totally unnecessary to insert a horizontal rule in that location. In addition, please make use of the {{-}} template to insert clear breaks where necessary so that the headers don't look like shit on different screen resolutions. Some of the images are so big that they head down two or three paragraphs. Having a some whitespace between headings is not a bad thing. It lets the readers know that there is a break in the section and also makes the walkthrough page easier on the eyes. The maps could probably be in a {{Sidebar}} or some other floating box that resembles one instead of way at the top of the page. Try to make the image captions more profound. If you just say what the image is, then imo readers will feel insulted because they were able to figure that out just by looking at the image, they didn't need a caption to tell them that. Instead, perhaps summarise the part of the game involving that image so that if they just want to see a specific bit, they don't have to scan through a paragraph or two. Finally, do not insult the reader or make any other sort of potentially-insulting remarks. For example: "You've seen the building next to that one, obviously (how can you miss it)" is bad. It is not only bad professionalism, but if the reader did somehow miss it, it might turn the reader off and make them go to a different place to find a guide. Granted, that's a worst-case scenario, but it really shouldn't be in there. I probably could find a bit more stuff, but that's the gist of why I am opposing this guide as of now. --Skizzerz 21:14, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
    • Skizzerz has a very valid point about the screenshots. Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to solve that problem. Most likely, you would have to find a way to take the screenshots yourself (or find someone who can). This is particularly difficult for a game that does not currently have an emulator available. Don't get discouraged, though. The work you have put into the guide is fantastic! Follow Skizzerz's advice above, and you'll be that much closer to a featured guide. Pay special attention to his example about insulting the reader. Maybe one of us, if we have the time, can go through and help get rid of what we call "drivel."--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 11:29, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
    • The screenshots were actually of the least concern to me. Really the only pages that need more aren't even in the Walkthrough, but are the Getting Started pages. I'm sure some of the images already uploaded could help illustrate points in those pages (but keep their usage to twice, not more -- otherwise people start going "haven't I seen this before?..."). --Skizzerz 20:05, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
  • I've got some reservations about the layout as well. I've been through a good portion of the guide doing copyedit, and I've noticed that the walkthrough is pretty dense due to information on a 100% completion. The guide may benefit from a pared down walkthrough, with sub-pages for scent locations, getting all bones, etc. Besides streamlining and readability, this would let visitors get to the information they're looking for more quickly. I know I'd prefer to go to a scent list to find a missing scent than have to locate it somewhere in a walkthrough paragraph.
As far as images go, I was under the impression that unless they are helping a reader understand something in the game, they are fluff. Most of the pictures are just random shots, used more for sprucing up the guide than providing any informational value. Even in that regard it really just clutters the page. Melon247, I think a less narrative approach to the guide in general would be beneficial. We should try and make any information as easy to find as possible and avoid unnecessary embellishments. -- najzere 18:37, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
    • Well, I've been through the whole guide now a bunch of times, and it is very much cleaned up as far as spelling, grammar, consistent usage of terms and capitalization. I think I've also gotten rid of every duplicate image. I don't know that we'll make much headway on more context-appropriate images though, unless Melon becomes able to take her own screenshots. I'm in support now that the guide on the whole is much more cohesive, even if the tone is a bit informal. - najzere 19:17, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
  • I've moved from undecided to support, though I do ask for one thing. It would be nice (I'll try and find the time tonight, but I may not be able to) for someone who hasn't yet to give the guide a thorough readthrough and make sure that the guide flows well and is easy to read. This includes aesthetics, like breaking up large paragraphs. Excellent work Melon and thanks Najzere for jumping in and giving a hand here!--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 12:26, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
  • I still have reservations. The screenshots, for a console game, seem at the very least satisfactory. Since Skizzerz brought it up, I'm still kind of iffy on the tone of the guide. • The whole guide is more-or-less finished now. There are plenty of screenshots, lots of people have been copyediting, and the Table of Contents looks better now, too. So now it's up to the votes. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:38, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Prod recently asked me to look over this guide again to see if I would change my position, and I must say that when looking through, the vast majority of what I mentioned as my oppose reason was still present. As such, I will not be supportive of this guide until those things as mentioned in my paragraph above are fixed. Some items were fixed, but a good part of them (namely the horizontal rules, random images next to the ToCs, etc. were not). There are some other floating/whitespace issues that still need to be addressed as well. --Skizzerz 19:06, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
  • I went through the guide and fixed some of the places where {{-}} was needed (1680px widescreen). The Horizontal Rules are still there and unless absolutely needed, should be removed. Also, some of the FN's need fixing in the Getting Started section, I don't think they led me through it linearly. -- Prod (Talk) 21:46, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
    • Done. Don't know why we have markup for ---- if we're not supposed to use it though. - najzere 23:07, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
        • ---- is useful in some cases (see {{Details}} for one usage -- to separate a notice from the template information), but it is not necessary 99.99% of the time, and usually never necessary in guides. What can a horizontal rule do that a normal line break cannot on a guide page? If you answered "waste ink/toner when printing" or "make the page look cluttered," then you've pretty much got the two things. --Skizzerz 23:34, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
        • In the Dog's Life guide they were used to show a delineation between the information to which the last level 2 header referred and the ending tidbit of the whole page, which didn't merit its own heading. The information on where to go before heading onto the next section could usually be summed up in one sentence, and the horizontal rule showed the reader that this was separate information without using a page element that may have been more pixels tall than the content under it. - najzere 03:12, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Horizontal lines are out now and the images were taken out before Skiz last complained about them. Do you still oppose, or is there something we've missed?--Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:12, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
    • Gave it a read-through, and I must say it looks good now. --Skizzerz 21:43, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Assuming no one opposes in the next week, I say we confirm this by Christmas.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 18:13, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Sure. My only regret is that I can't fact check or improve upon the guide. Maybe I'll ask for Dog's Life for xmas... --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 23:52, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
    • With hard work and determination, perhaps you can even become a Dog's Life Master. - najzere 23:56, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
  • It looks good. I personally would capitalize the titles, but I think that's personal preference. Found a misspelling of "dalmatian", but nothing too major. I've moved to support. --Arrow Windwhistler (talk) 00:15, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
    • We use "sentence grammar" for everything, so "The Awesome Quest" ends up being "The awesome quest" for standardization purposes, unless it is a proper noun. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 01:02, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

  1. This guide is very thorough and has a lot of images. Minx and MarioFan1993 both did a great job getting the guide to completion stage 4. In addition, the Phoenix Wright franchise is well known, and has two games upcoming. Fans of the series will appreciate the first one being shown on the main page. --najzereT 04:54, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  2. I've been waiting for this day. Hopefully so does Minx --MarioFan1993T 05:48, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

  4. This is the guide that originally brought me to StrategyWiki. The descriptions are to the point and make it easy to navigate and find what is needed when in a pinch. --Zaiqukaj 07:29, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  5. I didn't realize it was so far along!--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 13:50, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  6. After checking, the guide seems complete and descriptive, with a good progression on the story as well as the solution. While I can't verify the content myself, the only significant errors I found were typographical. --Sigma 7 16:55, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  7. YAY! This was one of the first guides I worked on here but I lost steam part way through. I'm so glad that it's been nominated and I have to say it's looking great! --Minx 18:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  8. This is a really solid guide - great use of images and templates, which are everything StrategyWiki does better than other FAQ sites. It's not just a good walkthough, it's a good example of why StrategyWiki is so good! --aniki21 07:33, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

  • The Getting Started page could do with a couple of images, such as a screenshot for the multiple-choice dialogue screen, or the Court Record. Don't forget also to finish off the Controls page with the Windows controls. --DrBob (talk) 06:38, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
    • A note on the Windows controls. The Windows version is Japanese only and I have had zero success finding them. If anyone can read Japanese it would be a big help if you could do a search on the Japanese name of the game (逆転裁判) and see what it says. It's a pretty good bet that the whole game can be played with the mouse, but who knows? - najzereT 07:37, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
      • manual page is probably what you're looking for (the second image). I'm not sure if I'll eventually be able to translate it, but at least if there's someone that can, there's a more direct approach than searching for the game. The rest of the manual is at manual index. --~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 12:28, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  • We could use the PAL cover in the Main Page. I'll get to that right now. --MarioFan1993 (talk) 15:09, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Does anyone here think there should be a page that is a list of all of the Evidence in the Court Record? Give me a reason why it doesn't sound necessary. --MarioFan1993 (talk) 18:19, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
    • It's redundant. Aren't these items required to beat the game? If so, they should be sufficiently covered in the walkthrough. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:51, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  • I'm sure this is an untimely question but is it too early to promote this? I mean it has 9 supports and no opposes and undecideds, but I'm not sure about the consensus. Is there anything anyone agrees on? --MarioFan1993 (talk) 13:34, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, after almost 2 years of work...it's done. --Arrow Windwhistler (talk) 02:08, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

  • I have spent more than enough time watching/editing this guide to know that it rules. Way to go Arrow! Ok, now for some scrutiny... The first thing I notice is that the Getting Started section could be expanded. Completeness is the goal here. For example, a listing of the menus and options are unavailable. Maybe something is confusing for people, or the game's tooltips don't describe them well. This is why we include these sections - to elaborate where the developers will not. I wish I could do this part, because I'm a stickler for insignificant details, but alas I don't have the game. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:43, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
    • I do feel that's somewhat irrelevant and outside the scope of the guide, as the game's menus are fairly easy and intuitive to navigate. You've just got Single Player, Multiplayer, a Tactical Library, Options, and Exit. The only thing that might be worth elaborating on is the Tactical Library, but...ah, what the crap. It's added now, as you requested. --Arrow Windwhistler (talk) 12:43, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

    • Be patient. It needs peer review and some cleanup, but overall it will become featured. =) You can help by making sure all of the walkthrough pages (I've checked the others) are using File instead of Image. I'll probably rearrange pages with lots of white space at the start to use {{floatingtoc}} as well. You guys have been doing a great job putting this and the other Phoenix Wright guides together so quickly. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:48, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Ceegers has filled in all of the advanced strategies and challenge info. I verified 80-90% of the guide. I think it is ready. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:23, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Took me a while to get around to everything I wanted to with this, but I finally got there. The advanced techniques page also helps to clarify some tougher things, like how to go about completing chambers with few enough steps for the gold challenges. Let me know if you have any suggestions on anything! -- Ceegers (talk) 21:35, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Comments from first nomination

The guide was completed years ago, but Ceegers (talk · contribs) has put the finishing touches on it. I think this one only needs a spit shine to make it into our elite. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:23, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks :) The advanced and challenges sections (Chambers 13-18) still need adjusting, which I will be getting to soon. I'm also thinking that an additional appendix page Advanced Techniques would be a good idea. In a game like this, it is absolutely impossible to describe every way to complete a puzzle, and the developers intended it as such, but advanced techniques could be an excellent place to describe methods that may help in various chambers. This could also include some general hints for how to decrease portals, steps, and time in the challenges. I'm also good friends with one of the glitch masters of this game, so I can get a ton of info on them, which could be included, but I am somewhat inclined to not include glitches (however... at what point something becomes a glitch as opposed to being part of the game is debatable in this case).

One last thought... looks like the guide's supposed to have no red links... which I guess means something would have to be created for Narbacular Drop and Portal (Commodore 64)? Seems like a weird requirement, since those really have nothing to do with this game... -- Ceegers (talk) 10:37, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

The red link requirement is for subpages, however, I saw those two and will probably fill them in today. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 15:06, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

I'll change to support once there are no more section stubs (Chambers 17 & 18) and the formatting problems are fixed. Also, you might want to include pictures of all the cameras/radios for people that have trouble interpreting the text versions. The Walkthrough page also needs pictures. My last (and most nitpicky) complaint is that the image names and pictures don't match in Escape 00 and Escape 01. Aside from that, it looks good. YoshiSoy (talk) 16:07, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Yoshi, Walkthrough has been expanded, please review once more. As far as challenges 17 and 18 go, I agree that they need to be filled out. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 23:06, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
Radio pictures linked from achievement page. New Camera Shy achievement page added, with galleries of all the camera pictures. As nmh said, walkthrough expanded. Fixed image names from Escape pages.
Which leaves advanced/challenges, which as I mentioned, I'll get to, and formatting, which nmh seems to be doing. And as mentioned, maybe an Advanced Techniques page. -- Ceegers (talk) 06:39, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

  • To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this guide. On one hand, it's complete in every way it can be. I suppose I'm more worried about upkeep, as the game is changing a fair bit at the moment. At the same time, however, I'm super glad that I've been able to hit the top spot on Google with this guide, and reception overall seems to be pretty positive. I'm nominating the guide, but on the other hand I don't want to break my "Featured Guide" streak by having it be added to Unsuccessful requests haha...Arrow (talk) 16:53, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
  • Yeah, I just looked at the guide. It actually looks good. I'm not a fan of this series, but even I know it should be made a stage 5. - That Funky Demon Pikachu 18:25, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
  • The Walkthrough is just one page covering the tutorial, with the rest of the subpages under the Gameplay heading. Not sure if that's good or bad. It's a procedurally generated game so I'm not sure what you'd put under the Walkthrough heading.--Henke37 (talk) 17:29, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
    • I think the Walkthrough page in general is pretty moot for games that have a running campaign and such. Arcade games like Zaxxon or Ms. Pac-Man only need a single Walkthrough page. On the other hand, more modern games - especially those with a story-driven campaign consisting of multiple missions - can afford to have subpages for each mission level, mostly negating the point of the base Walkthrough page. So I think you could easily get rid of the default walkthrough page for a number of modern games as a result. --Arrow (talk) 17:52, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
