Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve StrategyWiki in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
A:Reverting Vandalism, creating and editing categories, and inspecting edits by inexperienced contributors.
2. Of your articles or contributions to StrategyWiki, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A: I am not entirely satisfied with any of my work, since I have not yet created or significantly contributed to a complete guide. That said, I do believe my work on the Kid Icarus: Uprising, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and the Theatrhythm Final Fantasy guides has been useful and valuable for any visitors seeking help on completing these games.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: In the past, I've generally worked on projects with few other people, so I could have had more experience with conflicting edits. That said, there have been times where I disagreed with others over things like the state of pages, the level of guides, etc. In these cases though, I usually deferred to the judgments of more experienced editors, and in return they have explained how and why they reached their decisions.
For example, I recently disagreed with User:Notmyhandle about whether New Super Mario Bros. 2 guide was a level 1 or 2 guide. Ultimately, he "won," for the lack of a better word. However, in the process, he realized the Guide completion stage pages could have been clearer, and he ultimately improved the wiki by making them so.
General comments
  • I still could be more knowledgeable about this wiki and how to be admin, but regardless of how this nomination process turns out, I will do my best to be an ideal citizen of this wiki. I am a fairly hard worker, am willing to spend weeks or months on a project, and do my best to work well with others.

Please keep criticism constructive and polite.

Discussion

  • Salnax's edits have been top notch for quite some time. Although not 100% familiar with our policies, he learns quickly and his mistakes are few or negligible. I don't spend much time patrolling his edits because they are fine. He has been a significant contributor these past couple of months, and has been helping to make our category pages better. An excellent addition to the admins group. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:05, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Salnax uploads alot of pics, but then often not bother to add them all to pages, so we end up with alot of unused pics. Salnax also didn't bother to use {{-}} and such "technique". If Salnax manages to work on these weakpoints, then i will support him, but even so Salnax is a great help so far. Paco (talk) 17:44, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
  • While I agree with Paco's point above, I think simply bringing them to Salnax's awareness will go a long way to solving that problem. Salnax, be aware that stewardship over images is also a responsibility of administrators, so you definitely want to decrease the problem, not contribute to it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Procyon (talkcontribs) .
  • Any issues related to quality will generally be resolved over training or time, whether it's based on writing style, resources, or knowledge on how the wiki works. It is a process over time, which even takes more than a few months of entering a wiki. For the images, I'm more concerned about uploading images before the page was created - that usually indicates you may be holding onto a browser window for a few days, something that may cause problems if the browser closes itself to run an update. --Sigma 7 (talk) 14:24, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
  • To my knowledge, I've only uploaded images without using them a few times. Sometimes, the plan was that they would eventually be used on relevant pages. This was the case with the NSMB2 images I uploaded on the 2nd. However, I'll admit that many of the Pokemon Yellow and Theatrhythm images were unnecessary. In the future, I'll be sure to only add images while in the process of creating articles, not in advance.--Salnax (talk) 15:10, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
In this case mark the images, you find unnecessary with {{delete|Unused}}, so we can delete it. Paco (talk) 15:23, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
If any of you are unaware of these pages, please check out StrategyWiki:Cleanup project/Long term tasks and Special:UnusedFiles. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:01, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
