Vega, known as Balrog in Japan, is one of the bosses of the Street Fighter II series. The style Vega uses to fight is loosely based on Zipota and Savate, both used as a means of self-discipline and defense by unarmed Spanish noblemen, sailors and honor guards of established families, as well as ninjutsu.

Vega was born to a privileged Catalonian family in Spain. For reasons undisclosed, their status dwindled, causing Vega's mother to remarry for financial security. As he matured, Vega studied bullfighting, a cultural tradition. Afterward, he went to Japan and learned ninjutsu, a style he believed meshed well with his natural grace and agility. Combining bullfighting with ninjutsu, Vega went into an underground cage fighting circuit, and quickly became one of the best. His stepfather murdered his mother because he felt she did not respect him, and Vega killed him in return. The incident warped his mind, and he developed a dual personality: honorable nobleman by day, sadistic murderer by night.

Due to Vega's superb fighting ability and remorseless nature, the criminal leader known as M. Bison instated Vega as one of his three personal grand master bodyguards in the Shadoloo organization. Vega oversaw assassination operations for Shadoloo as well, and was associated with Cammy and the Shadoloo assassins known as The Dolls. Despite his savage and brutal fighting ability, Vega failed to protect Bison's secret Psycho Drive project.

Vega's Flying Barcelona Attack and Izuna Drop were originally performed by the computer-controlled Vega by climbing on the chain fence that only exists in Vega's stage. For other stages, Vega must leap off the side of the screen. In SFA3, players can input a different special move to climb the cage in his stage.

Techniques

Name	Description
Sankaku Tobi	Vega's agility allows him to jump backwards into a wall and quickly push himself off of it, giving him a certain aerial advantage over many opponents.
Backslash	Vega can perform two different kinds of back flips, a long and a short one. While performing these flips, Vega moves away from the opponent and is invulnerable to projectile or physical attacks until he is back on his feet again.
Rolling Crystal Flash	From a tucked position, Vega charges up his energy before launching himself forward in a series of forward tumbles, with his claw extended out towards the opponent, ending with a crouching punch. It can connect with opponents for multiple hits at a time.
Scarlet Terror
Sky High Claw	Vega leaps off of a wall, and immediately spring at his opponent, claw first, in a very fast move that is designed to take opponents by surprise. But it leaves Vega very open to counter-attack if the move is blocked.
Flying Barcelona Attack	Vega can leap into the air, towards one of the walls of the arena, and spring off of it to attack his opponent. If the player presses Punch alone while in mid-air, Vega spreads his arms and claws out to strike his opponent on the way down.
Izuna Drop	A little more difficult to pull off, after springing off the wall, if the player pushes forward on the joystick along with a punch button when Vega is close to his opponent, he will lift the opponent off the ground and drop them on their back, all before landing back down on the ground.
Kabe Hari Tsuki	Vega can jump to the cage at the back of his stage, then choose to attack the opponent with a Flying Barcelona Attack or an Izuna Drop. Vega can even perform supers off of the cage.
Cosmic Smart	Vega rears back for a moment and delivers a strong roundhouse.
Flying Barcelona Special	Vega does an enhanced version of his Flying Barcelona Attack that hits multiple times.
Rolling Izuna Drop	Vega lifts the opponent off the floor and proceed slam the opponent on the ground several times.
Scarlet Mirage	Vega does multiple damaging backslashes in a row.
Red Impact	Vega claws his opponent upwards then proceeds to impale them.
