Dusty Dune Galaxy is accessible from the Bedroom observation dome. You need 29 Stars to enter.

Star 1: Soaring on the Desert Winds[edit]

In this star, tornadoes are all around the galaxy. When you're inside one, spin to get a boost into the air.

First part: Use the tornadoes around the area to go to a small platform with a pipe. Take it to an underground 2-D area. Ground pound the stack of blocks. Now, you can either drop down to the moving sand or jump up the blocks, but it's easier to use the blocks. Keep going until you arrive at a Thwomp with two flipswitches under it. Hit them to make Star Bits appear around the wheels. Jump onto the wheels; they have their own gravity. If you want, get the ? Coin to easily wipe out the Piranha Plants. At the end of the hallway, use the Sling Star to automatically enter a pipe and come out near a Launch Star.

Note: during this part, the yellow sand moves, pushing you back, while the darker orange sand is instant death.

Second part: Take the Launch Star to a part with a Cluckboom and some tornadoes. Take the tornado up to some steps, then go up to an area with a "waterfall" of moving sand. You'll need to jump against the flow of the sand to get to the tornado. Take it to the middle section of the "waterfall", where there are some blocks. Use backflips and wall jumps to get up them. Round the corner, then use another tornado to get the ? Coin, revealing a pair of Sling Stars. Use them to get into another tornado. You'll want to be at the top of the tornado when it's far to the left, so that you can get enough height to land on the ledge with a ? Coin. Wall jump up, get another ? Coin for Star Bits if you want, then slide down the wall, wall jump to switch sides, then wall jump into the gap. Wall jump up again, and this time there is a moving platform. Time your jump off it, then get across to the steps. Now you are on top of the sand "waterfall". There are some small platforms that rise and sink in the sand. Use them to get to the big crystal, or just long jump to it. Either way, spin the crystal twice to release the Power Star. Jump to get it.

Star 2: Blasting through the Sand[edit]

There is a Hidden Star on this level. For the time being, do not feed the Hungry Luma.

Star 3: Sunbaked Sand Castle[edit]

There is a Hidden Star on this level. Do not collect any musical notes you may find.

Star 4 (Speedy Comet): Sandblast Speed Run[edit]

This Star is available when a Prankster Comet is in this Galaxy.

Do the same as for Star 2, only within a 4 minutes and 30 seconds time limit. There are no tornadoes.

Star 5 (Purple Comet): Purple Coins in the Desert[edit]

This Star is available when a Purple Comet is in this Galaxy.

Star 6 (Hidden): Bullet Bill on Your Back[edit]

Enter Star 3 and take the same path that you took for that Star until you reach the planet with the spiky plant. If you don't see it at first, it's most likely because the sand has covered it. Wait a moment until the sand recedes and then Ground Pound the tree stump and collect all the musical notes that appear. Use the Launch Star to reach a new planet.

This planet has a two-sided Bill Cannon in the middle, which is on a tower in the sand. Get a Bullet Bill to follow you, then ground-pound the button to raise the tower before it hits you. Walk around so that it won't hit you, and eventually some glass cages will come out of the sand. One of them has a Power Star. Break the cage with the bullet to release the Star, which appears next to the cannon. Pound the other button to lower the tower into the sand. Watch out, because the Dry Bones that came out with the tower are still there. Jump over them, or get a Rainbow Star from another cage to defeat them, and get the Star.

Star 7 (Hidden Green): Treasure of the Pyramid[edit]

This is one of the three Green Stars, which you need to collect to unlock the Trial Galaxies.

Enter Star 2. Feed the Hungry Luma 20 Star Bits. You automatically enter a pipe when you take the pink Launch Star. Find the five Silver Stars inside the pyramid. One is next to where you start. Step onto the green line to make it turn red, and the sand start to move. Use this method to find the stars, but don't get crushed between the sand and the walls. After you find them, the sand drains and the Green Star appears where you started.
