Hammer Bro

HP: 50
Attack: 6
Defense: 13
Magic Attack: 6
Magic Defense: 8
Resistances: None
Weaknesses: Jump
Items Dropped: Hammer and Flower Jar
Location: Mushroom Way
Difficulty: Easy-Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Hammer Time: Hammer Bro will throw four hammers on this attack. Wait until about one second after all four hammers hit to do a defense timed hit. If left undefended, this attack can do 10+ damage.
  • Valor Up: Valor Up raises Hammer Bro's defense by 25, making him difficult to defeat. When you defeat one of the two Hammer Bros, the other one will immediately use this move.

Description

This fight can be difficult if you haven't gotten the hang of timed hits yet. If you aren't too sure of your ability for timed hits, Mario should be level 3 for this fight. If you are good with timed hits you should be fine with Mario at level 2. The best strategy for the Hammer Bros is to one Jump and one normal attack on each of them. Alternate these attacks, because Hammer Bro's defense is raised a ton when he uses Valor Up.

Croco

HP: 320
Attack: 25
Defense: 25
Magic Attack: 30
Magic Defense: 18
Resistances: Sleep
Weaknesses: Fire
Items Dropped: Flower Tab and Wallet
Location: Bandit's Way
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Bomb: This attack deals around 15-25 damage and can't be blocked, which can potentially kill Mallow in one hit if he's still Level 2.
  • Weird Mushroom: Croco recovers 60 HP. He uses this when he's low on HP, but sacrifices two turns.

Description

Croco can be a problem if you aren't leveled enough. Mallow should be at least level 3 for this fight, otherwise Croco's Bomb attack could kill Mallow in one hit. When the battle starts have Mario use Fire Orb, this will deal upwards of 60 damage and make Croco lose his turn. Mallow won't be doing a lot of damage this fight, but his job is to heal with his move HP Rain. When Croco is at about 30% HP he will use a Weird Mushroom to recover 60 HP, but you get two free attacks when he does this, take advantage of it with another Fire Orb attack.

Mack

HP: 480
Attack: 22
Defense: 25
Magic Attack: 15
Magic Defense: 18
Resistances: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence
Weaknesses: Thunder
Items Dropped: 1st Star
Location: Mushroom Kingdom
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Flame Wall: This attack hits both Mario and Mallow but won't do more than 10 damage each.
  • Flame: Flame is like Flame Wall except it only hits one person, but it does a lot more damage. Ideally you want this attack to hit Mallow because his Magic Defense is higher than Mario's.

Description

Mack will summon four Shysters at the beginning of the fight. If Mallow's Magic Attack is high enough at this point (Level 6 will guarantee this) then a single Thunderbolt will kill all the Shysters as well as deal a fair amount of damage to Mack. After destroying the Shysters, Mack will start using Flame and Flame Wall. Keep an eye on your HP, use Mushrooms or HP Rain when necessary. When Mack is low on HP he will re-summon the Shysters. If you have enough power to kill them all with one Thunderbolt, Mack will continue to summon Shysters over and over again this way until he dies. If you can't kill all the Shysters in one hit, then Mack will temporarily run away until all of the Shysters are defeated.

Belome

HP: 500
Attack: 30
Defense: 25
Magic Attack: 15
Magic Defense: 20
Resistances: Sleep
Weaknesses: Thunder
Items Dropped: None
Location: Kero Sewers
Difficulty: Easy

Notable Attacks

  • S'Crow Funk: Turns one character into a Scarecrow. The Trueform Pin found in the Kero Sewers will protect against this.
  • Sleep-Sauce: Puts one character to sleep.
  • Eat Mallow: Every now and then Belome will eat Mallow, leaving Mario by himself. Mallow takes no damage, but if Mario falls while Mallow is swallowed it's game over.

Description

Belome can be really easy if you have Mario's Super Jump at this point. If you don't have Super Jump, Thunderbolt and Fire Orb will suffice. Special attacks deal more damage to Belome than normal attacks. If you found the Trueform Pin, have Mario wear it. You don't want to be turned into a Scarecrow when Mallow is eaten because you won't be able to use items to recover. Keep some Mushrooms handy when Mallow is swallowed just in case Mario's HP gets low.

Bowyer

HP: 720
Attack: 50
Defense: 40
Magic Attack: 30
Magic Defense: 35
Resistances: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence
Weaknesses: None
Items Dropped: Flower Box, 2nd Star
Location: Forest Maze
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Disable Y, X, A: Bowyer can disable your Y, X, or A buttons temporarily.
  • G'Night: Puts one character asleep.
  • Static E!: Hits all characters. This move really hurts Mario and ???, but Mallow can usually survive this attack easily.
  • Lightning Orb: Like Static E, except only against one target.
  • Bolt: Basically the same as Lightning Orb.

Description

Bowyer looks like a threat but is actually very easy. The following strategy will guarantee Bowyer will never disable A, use Static E, or use Lightning Orb. First turn, use regular attacks with all of your characters. Second turn, put everyone on defense. Repeat this order until Bowyer is defeated. This strategy makes this fight a lot easier. Using this strategy, Bowyer will either disable X or Y, which means you still need to keep recovery items just in case you can't use HP Rain. Equip a Wake Up Pin to Mallow to keep your healer from falling asleep just in case Bowyer uses G'Night.

Croco (2nd Fight)

HP: 750
Attack: 52
Defense: 50
Magic Attack: 27
Magic Defense: 50
Resistances: Sleep
Weaknesses: Geno Beam
Items Dropped: None
Location: Moleville Mines
Difficulty: Medium-Hard

Notable Attacks

  • Bomb: Same as the last fight. Can't be blocked, except this time it does more damage.
  • Chomp: Croco throws a random object at you. This attack really hurts if you fail a timed hit.

Description

If you are having trouble with timed hits you will struggle in this second encounter. Croco's moves haven't changed much since the last fight, but he has built up a resistance to Fire Orb. Normal attacks are recommended for this fight with Mario, but be sure to use Geno Beam as much as possible. Use Mallow to regain HP and FP lost during the fight. When Croco has about 50% HP left he will take all of your items away for the rest of the fight. Once Croco has stolen your items he will start using the powerful move Chomp. If you lose Mallow then you will likely lose the fight, you need HP Rain to win. Use normal attacks and HP Rain as necessary. You will need to land a lot of defensive timed hits in this fight.

Punchinello

HP: 1200
Attack: 60
Defense: 40
Magic Attack: 22
Magic Defense: 40
Resistances: Jump, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence
Weaknesses: None
Items Dropped: 3rd Star
Location: Moleville Mines
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

Sand Storm: Hits all characters. This attack doesn't do much damage but it causes fear.
Will-O-Wisp: Hits one character with a lot of damage and can't be blocked.

Description

Punchinello will begin the fight by throwing out four Micro Bombs. These are smaller versions of Bob-Ombs. Once you have taken off about a third of his HP he will summon four regular Bob-Ombs instead. Then after you take out another third of his HP he will send out Mezzo Bombs. Mezzo Bombs do heavy amounts of damage even through a timed defensive hit, luckily he only sends out three at a time instead of four. Keep in mind that the bombs will not always attack when they are summoned. You need to keep a close eye on them because they will attack out of turn. Punchinello will occasionally use Sand Storm which can make this fight extremely hard. While feared you take double damage. If you can afford it buy a Fearless Pin from Rose Town, two of them if you can. Focus all of your attacks on Punchinello. If you spend time on the bombs you will just open yourself up to a Sand Storm and he will re-summon the bombs anyway.

Knife Guy and Grate Guy

Knife Guy

HP: 700
Attack: 70
Defense: 55
Magic Attack: 20
Magic Defense: 10
Resistances: Thunder, Sleep
Weaknesses: Fire
Items Dropped: None
Location: Booster Tower
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Crystal: Hits one character. This attack deals average damage and can't be blocked. Bowser will be heavily damaged by this attack.
  • Blizzard: Like Crystal, except it hits all characters.

Grate Guy

HP: 900
Attack: 60
Defense: 40
Magic Attack: 25
Magic Defense: 40
Resistances: Fire, Sleep
Weaknesses: Thunder
Items Dropped: Flower Jar
Location: Booster Tower
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Echofinder: Hits one character. Deals average damage and causes mute.
  • Sleep: Puts one character to sleep.
  • Meteor Blast: Hits all characters with average damage.

Description

This fight looks hard at first, but a few good moves in the first few turns will turn the tables on your side. Mario, Bowser and Mallow is the best combination for this fight. Start off your first turn with Bowser using Terrorize and Mario using a fire attack on Knife Guy. Terrorize will frighten Knife Guy and Grate Guy giving you double damage for a few turns. Every once in a while, Knife Guy and Grate Guy will combine and start using Blizzard and Meteor Blast. Use Froggie Drinks or Elixers if needed when they combine. Focus on Knife Guy first, after a Terrorize he should be gone in a few turns. Grate Guy is easy pickings after Knife Guy is defeated.

Bundt and Raspberry

Bundt

HP: 900
Attack: 65
Defense: 10
Magic Attack: 20
Magic Defense: 15
Resistances: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep
Weaknesses: Jump
Items Dropped: None
Location: Marrymore
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Lullaby: Puts one character to sleep.
  • Drain Beam: Hits all characters with average damage.
  • Diamond Saw: Hits one character with high damage.

Raspberry

HP: 600
Attack: 70
Defense: 20
Magic Attack: 28
Magic Defense: 25
Resistances: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep
Weaknesses: Jump
Items Dropped: None
Location: Marrymore
Difficulty: Medium-Hard

Notable Attacks

  • Sand Storm: Hits all characters with weak damage and fear.
  • White Beam: This move doesn't have a name but it needs to be mentioned. This move executes with no warning and can usually do around 90% damage to one of your characters, even through Bowser's defense. Be sure to successfully defend against this attack.

Description

Mario, Mallow and Geno are recommended for this fight. The fight begins with Torte and Apprentice trying to defend the cake, Bundt and Raspberry. Torte and Apprentice are invulnerable so attack Bundt instead. When you attack it enough times Torte and Apprentice will flee because they finally realized that the cake is alive. When this happens the five candles on top of Bundt will light up. To defeat Bundt you must put out the candles. Every time you attack you put out one candle; one candle will regenerate every turn. Once all the candles are out then one more attack will destroy Bundt and then you can attack Raspberry. Ideally you can destroy Bundt in three turns, but that isn't so easy. Raspberry has a nasty habit of using Sand Storm often, which will wreck your team if you don't have any Fearless Pins. Keep some Froggie Drinks handy, you will need them because if you have two party members down at the same time before Bundt is destroyed, your chances of survival are slim. After you destroy Bundt you can attack Raspberry who isn't a huge threat by himself. Just beware of the occasional White Beam from here on out and you will come out victorious.

King Calamari

King Calamari

HP: 800
Attack: 100
Defense: 80
Magic Attack: 30
Magic Defense: 40
Resistances: Fear, Poison, Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: Fire
Items Dropped: None
Location: Sunken Ship
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Gunk Shot: Hits one character for average damage.
  • Drain Beam: Hits all characters for average damage.
  • Venom Blast: Poisons one character.

Right Tentacle

HP: 260
Attack: 82
Defense: 50
Magic Attack: 35
Magic Defense: 49
Resistances: Fear, Poison, Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: Fire
Items Dropped: None
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Steal Character: This will remove one of your characters from combat for one turn, if your other allies fall during this time then you lose. When your character returns they come back with the fear effect even if they are wearing a Fearless Pin.

Left Tentacle

HP: 200
Attack: 100
Defense: 70
Magic Attack: 35
Magic Defense: 23
Resistances: Fear, Poison, Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: Fire
Items Dropped: None
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Steal Character: Same effect as Right Tentacle's move.

Description

Mario and Toadstool are recommended for this fight. The third slot is up to you. The fight begins with you fighting against two Left Tentacles and one Right Tentacles. Toadstool's Group Hug will be of major help here to remove all the fear that will be passed around. Focus on the Left Tentacles first, use Mario's Super Flame if you want to deal a lot of damage. Otherwise just use regular attacks and Group Hug when needed. After the first wave of tentacles you will be up against two Right Tentacles and one Left Tentacle. Follow the same strategy for this second part. The final part of the battle will be against a Left and Right Tentacle and King Calamari. Deal with the tentacles first then focus on King Calamari. Follow the same strategy as before and you should have little problem.

Jonathan Jones

HP: 820
Attack: 85
Defense: 80
Magic Attack: 25
Magic Defense: 60
Resistances: Sleep
Weaknesses: None
Items Dropped: 5th Star
Location: Sunken Ship
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Blizzard: Hits all characters with average damage.
  • Crystal: Same as Blizzard except against one target.
  • Will-O-Wisp: Hits one character with heavy damage.
  • Get Tough: Raises Attack and Defense by 25.
  • Skewer: Strong physical attack, can be blocked.

Description

Mario, Geno and Toadstool are recommended for this fight. Begin the fight by using Geno Boost on Mario. Then use attacks and Group Hug as needed. Johnny will summon four Bandana Blue to start off the fight. Bandana Blue have 150 HP, but they can do a fair amount of damage. They can become a real pain if you still aren't spot on with defensive hits. There's two ways you can go about this battle. If you choose to defeat the Bandana Blues then Johnny will start using special move. Don't worry, his Magic Attack isn't high. Once you get him to about 400 HP he will use the move Get Tough. If you defeated any of the Bandana Blue at this point, Johnny will call out Mario for a 1v1 fight. If you kept all of the Bandana Blue alive, the battle will stay the same. If you are good with defense go with the second option, just follow the beginning strategy. If you chose to go 1v1, this is where the Geno Boost comes in handy. Carry plenty of Mid Mushrooms so Mario can heal in this fight.

Yaridovich

HP: 1500
Attack: 125
Defense: 85
Magic Attack: 70
Magic Defense: 75
Resistances: Fear, Poison, Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: Thunder
Items Dropped: 5th Star (again)
Location: Seaside Town
Difficulty: Hard

Notable Attacks

  • Water Blast: This is one of the most devastating moves in the game. This will bring down all of your characters to less than 10% health guaranteed.
  • Mirage Attack: Yaridovich makes a copy of himself. This copy has 500 HP and slightly lesser stats. If you want to know which is the fake one, use Mallow's Psychopath and make the timed hit. If he says "My promotion is at stake!" that's the real Yaridovich.

Description

Mario, Mallow and Toadstool are recommended for this fight. This is one of the hardest battles in the game. Water Blast will destroy your team if you are not high enough level. If Toadstool can't survive a Water Blast then you are not ready for this fight. Toadstool will play the role of healer in this fight. Almost every move she does will have to be Group Hug. Mario should just do normal attacks and use Maple Syrups when necessary. Mallow will be your main attacker, using moves like Shocker. If you make one mistake in this fight it could cost you the entire battle. You must keep an eye on your FP. Kerokero Colas could save you if you make a mistake, but there are no guarantees. Yaridovich has many other special attacks, all of which do high damage. Every once in a while Yaridovich will use his Mirage Attack. From this point they will start using physical attacks and a wider arrange of special attacks. You won't see Water Blast used when he has a Mirage up. Take out the Mirage as quickly as you can so you don't have to deal with two threats. If the battle goes on for long enough Yaridovich will run out of FP and start losing turns. Lay waste to him if the battle gets to that point.

Belome (2nd Fight)

HP: 1200
Attack: 120
Defense: 80
Magic Attack: 20
Magic Defense: 40
Resistances: Sleep
Weaknesses: Thunder
Items Dropped: None
Location: Belome Temple
Difficulty: Medium-Hard

Notable Attacks

  • Clone: Creats a clone of one character.
  • Aurora Beam: Puts all characters to sleep and deals average damage.
  • Light Beam: Puts all character to sleep and deals low damage.

Description

What to use against Belome this time is debatable. Whatever you choose could be used against you. Toadstool can recover, Mallow has strong magic attack, Bowser has high attack and defense, Geno has high Magic Attack and Attack, and Mario is just average. Pick your poison. Ideally you would want Belome to clone Mario twice because he's the least threatening clone. If Mallow, Bowser or Toadstool are cloned you should kill them immediately. Mallow Clone has Electroshock which is a high damage magic attack. Bowser Clone will rip through your defense and Toadstool 2 will recover Belome. Bring Wake Up Pins! Aurora Beam will make this fight extremely difficult if none of your characters have protection against sleep. At the very least you should have one character wear a Wake Up Pin and use Freshen Ups. For a general strategy: defeat the threatening clones then focus on Belome.

Megasmilax

Megasmilax

HP: 1000
Attack: 140
Defense: 80
Magic Attack: 70
Magic Defense: 80
Resistances: Fear, Poison, Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: Ice
Items Dropped: Seed
Location: Bean Valley
Difficulty: Easy-Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Petal Blast: Hits all characters with average damage and turns them into mushrooms.
  • Pollen Nap: Puts one character to sleep.
  • Flame Wall: Hits all characters with average damage.

Smilax

HP: 200
Attack: 100
Defense: 80
Magic Attack: 70
Magic Defense: 50
Resistances: Fear, Poison, Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: Ice
Items Dropped: None
Difficulty: Very Easy

Description

Mario and Toadstool are recommended, third slot doesn't matter too much. The fight will start off against one Smilax. After defeating that two more Smilax will appear, then three will appear. This first part isn't very hard at all. Just attack and recover as needed. When you defeat the three Smilaxes, Megasmilax along with two Smilaxes will appear. Megasmilax will open with Petal Blast; at the very least you want Toadstool to be protected from Petal Blast so she can Group Hug everyone back. You could also just give everyone a Trueform Pin. Beware of Megasmilax's normal attack, it's hard to see it coming and does a lot of damage when you miss the defensive timed hit.

Birdo

HP: 777
Attack: 160
Defense: 130
Magic Attack: 5
Magic Defense: 100
Resistances: Fear, Fire, Poison, Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: None
Items Dropped: Castle Key #2
Location: Nimbus Land
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Fire Egg: This attack deals a lot of damage and could potentially kill in one hit if you're not high enough level. This attack can't be blocked. If this attack hits someone in defense position the egg will ricochet and can be attacked to deal Birdo some damage.

Description

Mario, Toadstool and Bowser are recommended. The fight begins with a giant egg. The egg doesn't do anything, it just has 500 HP and Bird jumps out when you break the egg. Birdo has two attacks. A normal attack and Fire Egg, both of which do a lot of damage. The hardest part about this fight is surviving the attacks, Birdo can potentially attack twice in one turn. Toadstool should stay in defense position and heal when necessary. Mario and Bowser should do normal attacks. If you deflect a Fire Egg, immediately attack it to deal some good damage back to Birdo.

Valentina and Dodo

Valentina

HP: 2000
Attack: 120
Defense: 80
Magic Attack: 80
Magic Defense: 60
Resistances: Fear, Ice, Poison, Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: None
Items Dropped: None
Location: Nimbus Land
Difficulty: Medium-Hard

Notable Attacks

  • Solidify (Valentina): Hits all characters with high damage.
  • Aurora Beam (Valentina): Hits all characters with average damage and puts them to sleep.
  • Petal Blast (Valentina): Hits all characters with average damage and turns them into mushrooms.

Dodo

HP: 1000
Attack: 140
Defense: 100
Magic Attack: 6
Magic Defense: 60
Resistances: Silence, Sleep
Weaknesses: Fire
Items Dropped: None
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Multistrike (Dodo): Dodo pecks you multiple times, do not attempt to defend until about half a second after the final peck.
  • Flutterhush (Dodo): Silences one character.

Description

Mario, Bowser and Toadstool are recommended in this order. At the beginning of the fight Dodo will take off with your character in the middle and have a 1v1 fight, Bowser with this setup. Dodo will attack multiple times in a turn, so you need to nail those defensive timed hits. Buy some Mid Mushrooms for this fight, you're going to need it. Use Max Mushrooms if you have to. After dealing with Dodo, Mario and your third character (Toadstool in this case) will face off against Valentina. Valentina has a wide array of special attacks and quite a few of them deal status conditions as well. If you have a Safety Badge or Safety Ring, equip it to Toadstool. Otherwise give Mario a Trueform Pin and Toadstool a Wake Up Pin. Use Mario to attack and Toadstool to recover when necessary. Buy some Freshen Ups or Able Juices if you don't have the "Safety" items. After you play with Valentina some, Dodo will come back with your stolen character. Now you will fight against Dodo and Valentina. Focus on Dodo first then lay waste to Valentina with the same strategy as before.

Czar Dragon and Zombone

Czar Dragon

HP: 1400
Attack: 160
Defense: 100
Magic Attack: 120
Magic Defense: 70
Resistances: Fear, Sleep
Weaknesses: Ice
Items Dropped: None
Difficulty: Medium

Notable Attacks

  • Summon Helios: Summons four Helios. These little fireballs will suicide into one character and deal around 60-80 damage. This attack is unblockable. Helios have 10 HP each.
  • Flame Wall: Normally this attack wouldn't be a threat, but Czar Dragon's Magic Attack is really high. This will deal high damage to all characters.

Zombone

HP: 1800
Attack: 190
Defense: 60
Magic Attack: 80
Magic Defense: 90
Resistances: Fear, Fire, Ice, Poison, Sleep
Weaknesses: Jump, Thunder
Items Dropped: None
Difficulty: Medium-Hard

Notable Attacks

  • Boulder: Hits all characters with extremely high damage.
  • Water Blast: Hits all characters with extremely high damage.

Description

Mario, Mallow and Toadstool are recommended for this fight. First you will face off against Czar Dragon. The first thing you should do is use Toadstool's Mute on the dragon. If you are successful this first part will be a lot easier. When Czar Dragon is silenced he will only use normal attacks and Summon Helios. Use Mallow's Thunderbolt to take care of the Helios. Use Mallow's Psychopath every now and then to see how much HP Czar Dragon has. Make sure you use Group Hug right before you defeat him. When you defeat Czar Dragon, his skeleton Zombone will appear and immediately use Boulder. Boulder will kill your characters if you didn't use Group Hug on the turn or the turn before you defeated Czar Dragon. Zombone can be Muted but it's a lot harder to do it. Keep Toadstool in defense and use Group Hug as necessary. Zombone has a lot of other special attacks that can deal massive damage. The item Pure Water will deal 80 damage to Zombone, if you have any make Toadstool use them.

Difficulty: Hard

Notable Attacks: Breaker Beam

Description

Mario, Bowser and Toadstool are recommended for this fight. This fight is very hard, you need to survive six attacks before you even get a chance to attack. Toadstool again should defend and recover as needed, Mario and Bowser will be the muscle. You should defeat the Axem Rangers in this order: Pink, Black, Green, Yellow, Red. Pink will recover the team, Black attacks twice in one turn, Green has all the special attacks, Yellow is a tank, and Red just has high attack. Do not use a special attack on Black or else he will use the devastating Spritz Bomb attack. Every time you do a normal attack on Yellow, he will attack back immediately with a Body Slam. Pink will use Petal Blast if you attack her with a special move. Red will use Valor Up and Vigor up when there are three or less Axem Rangers. Do NOT use attacks that hit all enemies, they will all attack back immediately out of turn. When you defeat the five rangers they will use their ship, Blade, to attack you. Blade only has one attack, Breaker Beam. This attack is possibly the strongest attack in the game. If you aren't recovered before this attack you will likely die. Blade needs to use a turn to recharge to use Breaker Beam again. So after you get hit with Breaker Beam, recover and attack. The next turn put everyone in defense to make sure they survive. Repeat this until Blade is destroyed.
