Super World Court (スーパーワールドコート, literally Sūpā Wārudo Kōto), is a tennis arcade game that was released by Namco in 1992; it runs on Namco's NA-1 hardware, and as the name suggests, it is the sequel to World Court, which was released four years earlier.

Introduction[edit]

At the start of the game, players must again select either "singles" (1P vs CPU/2P) or "doubles" (1P & CPU/2P vs 3P/CPU & 4P/CPU); they will then have to select one of sixteen new players (seven male, six female, and three animal/robot, as none of the original players survived the transition from 5121 to 4096 colours), before selecting one of four new courts (USA hard, France clay, GB grass, and Namco funny, the last of which must be an equivalent of Japan). The players must then again decide whether they want their match to be one or three sets long - and the company's signature character, Pac-Man, also makes a cameo appearance upon the Namco court (in fact, there appears to be five of him in the screenshot shown below). The last time that Pac-Man was depicted as a type of creature (rather than an individual) was back in Midway's Kick eleven years earlier, as were all four of the "original" ghosts.
