Pending tasks for Chrono Trigger

Get the guide to featured status!

How to get featured
  • Add Wii controls (classic and GameCube) to all control selectors and add the two additional parameters of all instances of {{control}}.
Links
  • Add all enemy names to {{ct/e}} to allow for in-sentence plural use of their names. Enemies 1-21 complete.
  • Maybe create a template for linking to items and/or enemies with tiny icons of the item/enemy, to be used in-line with text during walkthroughs. Having maps on the page can negate this.
Beastiary
  • Edit enemy template so that bosses can have their names link to walkthrough sections.
  • Add all missing def, mdef, techs, and counters values. Info at chrono compendium.
  • Make links for all locations and items.
  • Fact checking
    • Compare current monster list with previous list in history (most importantly, make sure both SNES and DS names are in the list).
    • Double check charmable items (in game research please).
    • Detail the location(s) of every creature in the info section.
  • Add monster techniques list.
    • Add techniques to Enemies page.
      • Link techniques to monster tech list.
  • Fix images for various sprites that have the top of their image cut off by a few pixels (e.g. Queen Zeal, Magus in enemy list, etc.).
  • Add Guardian Pod image and fix Mega/Giga/Tera Mutant images. Giga appears to have different sprites in SNES vs. DS.
Walkthrough
  • Complete/Note all differences for the PlayStation and Nintendo DS.
    • Need walkthrough changes for DS.
    • Need walkthrough changes for PS.
    • Detail the PlayStation exclusive "Extras Mode" on the version differences page. Sub-page if necessary.
  • Verify that all tabs/capsules are in the correct place in the walkthrough and links exist back and forth between walkthrough pages and /tabs.
  • Split The Fated Hour into subpages.
Equipment
  • Add DS exclusive items (5 new armors - please link to reference or add to item page).
Maps
  • World maps
  • Dungeon maps
    • Cathedral
    • Guardia Forest
    • Zenan Bridge
    • Hunting Grounds
    • Dactyl Nest
  • Miscellaneous maps
    • Millenial Fair (3 sections)
    • Guardia Castle (1000 A.D.)
    • Guardia Castle (600 A.D.)
Miscellaneous info
  • Jetbike Race
    • Add an image of Crono crossing the finish line in first place after using a boost, in horizontal perspective.
    • Wii controls
  • Add strategy and info on how to achieve success with the challenging "zero experience, no tabs" play through.

Motivations for having a Wiki guide[edit]

  • Completeness. There are a great deal of FAQs and guides which cover most information about the game but very few that present a detailed summary of all areas. There has been analysis covering the algorithms, equipment, colliseum, and other areas. Having a guide which can be edited means that if we forget any secrets in the game they can be added easily, so our guide should be able to contain all information about the game.
  • Organization. This is a benefit of having an HTML guide rather than a giant pure text walkthrough like GameFAQs offers. You should be able to link to any section and find the relevant information or advice needed easily, by following a link to a section or within a section.
  • References. All the information should be strongly related. For example, in the main walkthrough, if it talks about finding the rainbow sword it should link to the appropriate section in the equipment page and vice versa. When talking about Lavos the page should link to an identifier for Lavos under bosses. The information should be well-referenced and connected so users can trace different elements and their relations.
  • Images/media A boss template like the one for FF6 wouldn't hurt, or just a few general images. Another benefit to an online guide is using images to clearly identify gameplay elements, bosses, and locations which may be hard to find. For example, showing the location of each location on the world map would make things much easier for navigation, and having a giant map where each portion linked to a particular location would be ideal. And in general, the more pictures which are referenced to different parts, the better.
  • Formatted Tables/Lists Lists of items, enemies, and stats which are formatted and easily read would be very helpful.
Rpgclassics.com has a quite complete shrine devoted to chrono trigger. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.81.60.118 (talk)

ToDo:[edit]

  • Fill in the walkthrough section. The organizing element I want for this guide is the name of the saved games, it determines the ending and seems a useful way to divide up the game between bosses. Some info in parentheses may also be helpful, e.g. Chapter II: We're Back! (1000 A.D. second time). It'll probably be filled in as I run through again from scratch.
  • Add more images
  • Improve references between the sections and add them for monsters, spells, and equipment when feasible
  • Fill in as many lists or missing information as possible, possibly even crediting other sources, see if anyone knows about algorithms.
  • Editing may be necessary although difficult, I'm writing all the chapters myself and haven't gone through in much detail.

Ok, so we're on a different Wiki now[edit]

Anyone know why the chapter 25 link only shows up as an edit link for me, despite having actual content?--BigCow 10:47, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

You could try purging your cache. Editing the page should also fix it. It does show up as a blue link for me by the way. GarrettTalk 17:35, 13 May 2006 (PDT)

General Style Things[edit]

Some thing it would be good to do to clean up/improve this guide:

  • Use the button template images any time a button key is referenced: A Button
  • Follow a convention established on the Chrono Trigger/Bosses page, bolding tech names, and italicising equipment names to make them stand out.
  • Link character names and tabs to the appropriate section, anything else that makes sense for that as well

Here's some more suggestions:

  1. Move the from page names like Chapter 1 to The Millenial Fair (1000 A.D) or Chapter 1: The Millenial Fair (1000 A.D). Having those miniheadings on each page seems strange to me.
  2. Add {{Footer Nav}}'s need to each page in the Walkthrough.
  3. Add a nice image to the walkthrough page.

Uh what do you mean by your first point, change the line at the beginning of each article that has the title? Or actually move the page to the more specific name (I don't think that's a good idea, since it simply makes the page names longer) so that it matches the ToC? Clarify please.--Notmyhandle 18:55, 14 December 2006 (CST)
To actually move the page from Chrono Trigger/Walkthrough/Chapter 1 to Chrono Trigger/Chapter 1: The Millenial Fair (1000 A.D.). -- Prod (Talk) 19:11, 14 December 2006 (CST)
Considering that the names "Millenial Fair", "Queen is Gone", etc. aren't official doesn't really make sense to just move them. Go ahead and do it, I don't want to be the one updating links though.--Notmyhandle 19:24, 14 December 2006 (CST)
To me the title's Chapter x doesn't give tell anything about where the player is in the game. Were there actually chapters like that? I can handle the moving and fixing the links, I just need to know what names to use. And it doesn't have to be official, just valid. Do you have any suggestions? -- Prod (Talk) 19:28, 14 December 2006 (CST)
The most descriptive name you can give is the time period and which time you've visited, for example: 1000 A.D., first time. The problem with this is that Chapter 2 and 3 and such should thus become one page; although they have defining plot elements that sort of separate them (although this could also be placed on the page). --Notmyhandle 12:13, 16 December 2006 (CST)
Just one comment, the chapter titles such as "Queen is Gone", etc, are official-those are the names of your saved game file when you're at that point in the game. So technically the game is broken into chapters like the walkthrough is, they just aren't numbered as such.--BigCow 14:32, 18 December 2006 (CST)
As you've had the most experience with the guide (and with that I'd assume game as well) what do you think we should use? From what you've said, I think we should move Chrono Trigger/Walkthrough/Chapter 1 to Chrono Trigger/The Millenial Fair. As you said they are the save game names, if the date is included, then add that to the title as well. -- Prod (Talk) 15:06, 18 December 2006 (CST)
I agree with Prod here. It shouldn't take too long to move all the walkthrough pages to a better name? Should we go ahead and do this? It's been a long time since this conversation and there was never really a resolution.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 14:42, 27 July 2008 (CDT)
Currently the names are very descriptive (the only downside is someone might say overly descriptive). The "Chapter" heading is not official, however the name of the save title is. The additional "first time in 600 A.D" thing has been very helpful to myself as I navigate the guide when I play the game, although that too should be removed if going "official." I'm not sure whether or not we need to "correct" something that works well. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 15:31, 27 July 2008 (CDT)
I'm referring more to the actual page name itself... The subpage names should be more descriptive, as Prod said above: "I think we should move Chrono Trigger/Walkthrough/Chapter 1 to Chrono Trigger/The Millenial Fair". As for the ToC links? What's there is fine.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 15:35, 27 July 2008 (CDT)
Unless the chapters are numbered within the game, there's no benefit to adding the numbering here, but the /Walkthrough/ really needs to be removed. -- Prod (Talk) 15:40, 27 July 2008 (CDT)
The only problem is that within the guide there are several references to the chapter - but that shouldn't be too hard to remedy. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:20, 27 July 2008 (CDT)

Yesterday I went ahead and moved all the chapter pages to their more descriptive name. I may have missed a few links in some of the pages, so keep an eye out for it if you are editing.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 15:55, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Character pictures[edit]

I have uploaded the pictures of Crono, Lucca and Marle. Can anyone add them or tell me how to add them? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Megamanenm (talkcontribs) .

Check out the images guide. -- Prod (Talk) 11:01, 25 July 2008 (CDT)

Control selector[edit]

I didn't put codes into the controls for non-SNES games, since I don't know if they're directly mapped like the other buttons. I just put filler stuff in, so someone should look these over:

Also, for some reason I didn't put filler content in on Chrono Trigger/The Factory Ruins, so that needs to be checked as well. - najzereT 06:35, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Template:Chrono Trigger/Boss[edit]

I was thinking we're trying to cram a lot into the boss template, so I took the text out to see how that would look. Check it out on this page. Obviously the fonts are too big now, but what does everyone think of this? Also, how do you guys feel about moving the cell headers into true header cells separate from the content? So instead of "HP<br />260", we would split them into "HP" in a header cell and "260" into a regular cell. And probably with just the header cell getting the background color. - najzereT 20:55, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

I think that would be okay, provided we drop the large fonts. Should we place the boss image within the template or next to the text? I'm thinking we can get the sprites from here for within the template, and perhaps a screenshot of an attack or something for next to the text.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 13:35, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
That would be best, since the boss pages have screenshots, and I didn't know what to do with them since those pages are going to be merged into the guide. That site looks like it has just about everything anyone could ever need as far as CT sprites. :) I guess we'll just wait to hear from some more people then. - najzereT 14:59, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Enemy Techs?[edit]

Are these abilities that enemies can use? Because if that's the case, we should just combine that into the enemy page or into the walkthrough itself. It's probably a bit excessive to have a page devoted to that.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 14:42, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

They do exist, but since they only appear in specific combinations, they might as well be places on either the Boss page or the entry for the enemy. They seem to behave slightly differently than normal player-techs. --Sigma 7 15:31, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Hunting ground Update[edit]

I have been coming to StrategyWiki off and on for a long time, but this is my first post. I found the need to make this post when I was looking for the Reptite lair weevil map, as i was confused getting to the far right of the last weevil holes floor, and ended up going 2 floors up instead of 1 floor down

As a player that can easily rack up more time in the Hunting grounds than the actual game takes to play, I beleive there is a flaw in this section of the guide. My typical strategy upon entering(regardless of the console version), kill frog on the right, go left, middle frog, bottom frog, top frog, west ion, i stake out the NW Nu just before the rain starts, 45-50% of the time he comes out here, if her doesnt i follow the vine to the SE Nu. After the rain, east Ion then perch in that nook right at the edge of the SE Nu location, when it rains i can check all three areas for the Next Nu in one run... You can easily fight all 3 Nus before leaving where you are doesnt determine where it comes out. When I have 1 left i will stand in his area and wait. The game will preload a sequence, if the Nu is set to come out where you have already beaten him, no Nu will come out. So, depending on the pattern you might get all three in 3-5 rains or you might have to leave with one not fought just to reset and continue your Farming (I go with the intent to farm trade items to make money, with either weapon set, petal/feather for Robo Arms and fang/horn for Chrono swords, 99 each trade item will get 33 of each weapon and these are the highest priced to sell, if you get Medina overpriced equipment before fiendlord's lair then the second set of trade weapons is only good for money. Racking up TP is a positive side effect, as a complete run with all 3 Nus and all other enemies is 102 TP before leaving and reentering...unfortunately over leveling and taking the challenge from the gameplay can be a negative side effect of farming since in all honesty, as long as you dont run away or avoid fights, you will be adequetly leveled for any area of the games story without grinding. 9x out of 10 if you lose a fight, it just requires changing strategy not leveling up.) -Nomir
