Talk:Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (PC)

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

Title[edit]

From what I can see for gaming sites, this game is exactly the same as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone for PC. Infact, this is supposed to be the same game anyway. This is the American title and the Philosopher's Stone in the EU title. Since there is a game for the PS2 and other versions, I think we should either have both guides with the same title (and still have (PC) on this one, obviously) or, if the versions are similar, merge them into one guide. --Melon247   (talk · contribs · comp) 13:18, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Oh yeah and Sorcerer is spelt wrong. But I'll wait to find out about the rest of the title for these pages before fixing it. --Melon247   (talk · contribs · comp) 13:19, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Hey Melon, thanks for looking into this. If in fact it turns out that these are the same games with different titles, then this page should be turned into a categorized #redirect page. Let us know what you discover. Procyon 13:28, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Well, I know that Sorcerer's a Philosopher's stone are the same game, I'm just not sure whether the platforms are different. Does that mean this page should be named Sorcerer of Philosopher? (either way I need to change it because of the misspelt title). --Melon247   (talk · contribs · comp) 13:33, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
It's really ugly. According to WP and a Harry Potter wiki, the games have little in common with one another. There's basically a common PS2/Xbox/GC game, and then there's everything else, essentially a free for all. The (PC) disambiguation is legitimate, but the info box for the original article needs to change. Procyon 14:53, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
So this is how it's organized. "Harry Potter and the Philosphers's Stone" is the title in Europe, and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is the title in the US. Two different games were released, each with two different titles depending on their market. In 2001, this game was released for the PC and PS1, and another game was released for GBC and GBA. Then again in 2003 an new game was released that was based on the movie for PS2, GC, and Xbox (Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosopher's_Stone#Video_games). I think that was the source of the confusion here. I'm going to change the title of this to "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)" and add a hat note.

I already see that the title was discussed and changed several years back, but I wanted to chime in. I've been looking into the various versions for this game and watching walkthroughs, and while the PS1 and PC versions are more similar to each other than the others, there are still significant enough differences that making a single guide for both versions would be too confusing. Could I request that the title be reverted back to adding the "(PC)" to it to differentiate (the PS1 version can have its own page with the default title). I only ask because the Chamber of Secrets versions (a nearly identical situation, really) has its "(PC)" title intact, with the PS1 version having the default title, and I figured it would make for better consistency. - Hathomirr (talk) 01:11, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
