Wii and GC versions[edit]

By all accounts, the GameCube and Wii versions of Twilight Princess are mirror images of each other - in order to accomodate the Wii controller (Wiimote in the right hand, nunchuck in the left), they had to make Link right-handed instead of his usual left; for some reason, they just flipped the entire game around. Because of that, directions for the game on one system will be entirely wrong on the other. Unless someone wants to go through and make sure that every instance of "left" or "right" is qualified by the relevant system, I'd recommend entirely separate guides for the two formats. Of course, we could just put a note at the start of the guide to say it's been written for one and that all the left/rights should be reversed, but that's a lot of hassle to put on the reader, in my opinion - if you just turn up, pop open the ToC and jump to the section you're stuck on instead of reading the entire front page, you could end up very confused. --aniki21 16:57, 17 December 2006 (CST)

I agree that it would be very confusing. However, since both versions are the same game just with reversed direction you'd just be copying the Wii version's guide. I think we should post a note, maybe, on the bottom of each page telling people that every "left" or "right" is reversed in the Gamecube version. But separate guides wouldn't say anything different and would probably never be done. Good thought though... Myth 10:38, 1 June 2007 (CDT)
This has actually been "solved". It has been implemented (just look through the pages). Ask Ryan for help if you need it. -- Prod (Talk) 11:26, 1 June 2007 (CDT)
If you look at the Table of Contents, you'll find a named link and a link with (GameCube). The named link goes to the Wii version, and the (GameCube) to the GameCube version of the guide. The GameCube page is an exact copy of the Wii version page, just with East/West and Left/Right switched (among a few other things). The magic in this comes from {{ZTP}}, so check that out, and the source for the two beginning pages (here and here) to see how it is done. Since I have both versions of the game, I also check to make sure that the GameCube version does not have any incorrect conversions. Finally, the Wii version is actually the "flipped" one. In the GameCube version, like every other Zelda game, Link is left-handed. Link is right-handed exclusively in the Wii version due to the way the controller is held (Remote in right hand, Nunchuk in left). --SkizzerzTalk - Contribs 15:30, 1 June 2007 (CDT)

GC Icon for the guide[edit]

Instead of having to put "(Gamecube)" next to each page, why not have a pretty little icon instead? That way, the text won't always wrap around the columns and it'll look much nicer.--Dan 08:12, 5 March 2007 (CST)

I'll make an image. --Notmyhandle 11:16, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Could you make sure you name it "GameCube icon.png" please? (Make sure it's a PNG!) I have future plans for console icons. :-) --DrBob (Talk) 12:09, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Quick question, how do you plan on linking the icon to the actual content page instead of its image page? --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 15:07, 5 March 2007 (CST)
I also did a temporary fix on the wrapping issues by making the divs 40/30/30. --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 15:10, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Sure thing DB; what resolution (width/height) should I use? --Notmyhandle 16:51, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Probably something similar to the stub or needcat images. Thanks. :-) --DrBob (Talk) 17:15, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Done (no problemo), just awaiting approval from a buddy of mine whom the original it comes from, it's 24x24. --Notmyhandle 17:39, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Here File:GameCube icon.png --Notmyhandle 19:29, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Awesome! --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 19:32, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Nice! Would you mind procuring similar-style icons for the other main consoles? (i.e. The ones listed on the main page.) --DrBob (Talk) 00:52, 6 March 2007 (CST)

With the new image map extension it works great, only there's one problem...

Error: Image is invalid or non-existent.

...the image map forces a break on either side. So in order to use this for this purpose we'll need some sort of table layout, or maybe div floats... I'm not sure how to make the latter work, however. GarrettTalk 01:35, 6 March 2007 (CST)

I don't understand, why use the imagemap? --Notmyhandle 17:13, 6 March 2007 (CST)
To make it clickable. Isn't that the whole idea? GarrettTalk 18:44, 6 March 2007 (CST)
That's dumb, there should be an easier way. For now just use this method: [http://strategywiki.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Twilight_Princess_%28GameCube%29/The_Beginning [[Image:GameCube icon.png]]] (File:GameCube icon.png) --Notmyhandle 21:24, 6 March 2007 (CST)
The external link next to the image looks really bad, though. --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 21:26, 6 March 2007 (CST)
Until the last upgrade it was possible to make an image clickable simply by pasting its URL into an external link (e.g. http://media.strategywiki.org/images/b/bf/GameCube_icon.png). If Dr Bob can find out what turned it off that would be the best way. With a simple <span> class the ext link icon can even be hidden. GarrettTalk 21:49, 6 March 2007 (CST)
External images have just been re-enabled. --DrBob (Talk) 01:06, 7 March 2007 (CST)
Oh, and the span class is "plainlinks", turning http://media.strategywiki.org/images/b/bf/GameCube_icon.png into http://media.strategywiki.org/images/b/bf/GameCube_icon.png. GarrettTalk 04:12, 7 March 2007 (CST)

Item, enemy, character images[edit]

I haven't been able to find a good source for more official art like the images already uploaded. In fact, from what I've read, that's all there is and Nintendo is notorious for not releasing a lot of official art for their games. So how should we proceed? I can get images off the game for everything, but then it would be a mix of in-game and official art. I'd rather see all the images have the same look, so I'd prefer to either upload over the existing images or better yet, move them all to an "Official art" page in the Extras section of the guide. Of course, the best case scenario is that someone can find official art for everything we need. :) If you're interested in the guide, let me know your thoughts. It doesn't matter. Pics > none. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 00:25, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
