Moving the template[edit]

May I suggest this move to Template:Author/PublicDomain? I decided to create similar userpage boilerplates for GFDL, SWPL, and CC-by-sa, and keeping them all in the same namespace may be beneficial. echelon 23:28, 25 June 2006 (PDT)

We could simply categorize the templates couldn't we? -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 00:21, 26 June 2006 (PDT)
I guess this request might be overkill. I'm a programmer, so in my mind everything is namespaced by its title. (This is partly so that similar things are grouped together, but mostly because it allows immediate recognition of purpose by name alone if you already know what one template in the hierarchy does). Either way, what you posted on my talk page is making me reconsider the benefits of having GFDL, SWPL, and CC boilerplates anyway. echelon 01:10, 26 June 2006 (PDT)
I am also a programer ;). But I've used wiki's enough to know that not only will {{publicdomain}} get used more if it doesn't have the "author" thing before it, but it's also easier to type, and the categories make the title hierarchal organization scheme not as necessary. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 08:24, 26 June 2006 (PDT)
I'm a pimp for standardisation, so I'd be with Echelon here. (I too am a programmer. :-P) --DrBob (Talk) 09:03, 26 June 2006 (PDT)
The thing is that sub-pages only work in projectspace and articlespace. Also, this would imply a base page which is Template:Author which doesn't exist and doesn't have a reason to exist I believe. the reasoning to have "author" is to make them easy to find and stadardized, why not rename this UserPublicDomain or AuthorPublicDomain even? But putting it in false subpages doesn't make sense. The benefits of the subpages for this example is taken (much better actually) by cats, especially since when you are on one of the "author" templates there isn't any really easy way to find the other ones without a category, and once we have that category, what's the point of "author/"? They are listed in the category. I propose category:user license templates which will contain all of the other categories. I'm for standardisation too, but subpages in the templatespace doesn't make much sense. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 09:21, 26 June 2006 (PDT)
Well the other templates had better be renamed then. If you're going to create that category (I'm all for it), make sure you make it a subcategory of Templates. :-) --DrBob (Talk) 10:11, 26 June 2006 (PDT)
Will do, I'll fix it up then. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 22:13, 26 June 2006 (PDT)
