Tetris Party supports three controllers: the Wii Remote, the Classic Controller, and the Wii Balance Board. The Balance Board is only used in its own three game modes. Everywhere else, you have the choice of using either the Wii Remote or Classic Controller to play.

The Wii Remote is always held in the horizontal position, unless it is being used to point at the screen.

Gameplay

The following controls apply to all game modes except for Stage Racer, VS Stage Racer, and Wii Balance Board Tetris, which are described later.

Under the Options menu, there is a Wii Remote Configuration option with two settings: Type A and Type B. This allows you to swap the functions of the A button and B button buttons on the Wii Remote. Type A is the default.

One-handed

In Marathon, Computer Battle, Shadow, and Beginner's Tetris, you can use a one-handed control scheme when the Wii Remote is held vertically and pointed towards the screen. This setup is very limited in terms of functionality when compared to the normal control schemes.

The Wii Remote Configuration setting also affects the A button and B button buttons in this scheme.

Item targeting

There are five items that allow you to select a target, rather than automatically targeting yourself or all opponents. This is done by pointing the Wii Remote at the screen and pressing the button assigned to use items. If you use the Classic Controller to play, you will have to pick up the Wii Remote in order to target.

Targeting is optional. If you do not select a target, the game will automatically choose some default or randomly, depending on the item.
