You learn how to fish early on in the game during your first trip to The Dog Island aboard El Dorado's Ship. At that time you receive the Fishing Rod, which you can use at any pier in the game to catch 49 out of the 50 possible fish. The last fish, the Marlin, requires that you get Marlin Bait before catching it. In order to get the bait, you must complete two missions:

How to fish

In order to fish, you must be at a pier, which are easily identified as the wooden platforms protruding out over water. Run to the end and press A button when the "Fish" command appears. At that time you will cast out your line and wait for a fish to bite. When you hook a fish, it will begin pulling on the line. It's your job to snap the Remote button up continuously like you are pulling on a fishing rod to reel your quarry in. Bigger fish will pull harder and you can lose the fish by either not reeling in enough so it swims out and escapes, or by reeling in too hard and snapping the line.

While fishing, you will notice a dotted line at the top right corner of the screen where your hearts normally are. As you reel in the fish, the fish icon will move from the right hand side of the meter to the left. When it reaches the far left side, you'll have caught your fish. Additionally you will have a meter at the bottom center of the screen that will show you how big of a fish you're dealing with and how hard you need to pull. This meter consists of a black line with red sections at each end and an orange bar overlayed on top. The orange bar will be bigger or smaller depending on the size of the fish you've hooked. As the fish struggles, the orange bar moves to the left and as you pull it moves to the right. The goal is to keep the orange bar between the two red ends. If you don't pull hard enough, the orange bar will get into the red section on the left and you'll lose the fish. If you pull too hard, the bar will get into the red section on the right and you'll lose your fish. Modify the speed and strength at which you pull on the Remote button to keep the orange bar centered in the meter.

Fish Collector book

The Fish Collector's name is Dougal, and after you've Template:Dogisland diarylink, he will be available to take your fish in Noble's house.

Of the fish you may possibly find at any given pier, you may not be able to catch every single one of them at one time. The composition of fish in the water is randomly selected as you enter the area, so if you are trying to catch a certain fish and it seems like it's not there, try running out of the area and back in to reset the fish.

Below is a representation of how the Fish Collector book appears in the game. Before you've caught a fish, you will only see a silhouette and a general hint as to its location will be given. Match the spot in the Collector book you're looking for with the one in this table and put your PC Mouse.png over the picture to see the name of the fish. Then PC Mouse Left Click.png click the fish to navigate to its spot in the fish information table in the next section to find out in which locations it is available. To see all the fish that are available in a certain location, look in the appropriate section on the Wild Areas page or here for El Dorado's Ship.
