Gameplay[edit]
Player use a (vertical) 2-directional joystick to take control of a steam locomotive, with a single button to switch the direction of the tracks it is running on. However, they will only be switched when the train is approaching them. In the first stage, the player has to connect the three randomly-placed coaches before going into the eponymous "Time Tunnel". The locomotive can be refuelled by passing refuelling stations, for running out of fuel will cost a life, as will crashing into cows on the track, opposing locomotives, and aliens. After clearing a stage, the player will receive a 50-point bonus for each increment of fuel they have got remaining. For the second stage, they must stop at several stations to pick up a total of nine passengers before they go into the Time Tunnel. For the third stage, they must find a spaceship which occasionally stops at the space stations, bring their train to it and unload their passengers when it stops at a station. After clearing the third stage the game starts over again at a higher level of difficulty
