Welcome to StrategyWiki![edit]

Hello Ceegers! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. If you need help editing, check the StrategyWiki Guide or visit the IRC channel to chat, we're usually around. On the other hand, if you have ideas for StrategyWiki, bring them up on the forums. To keep up-to-date with the goings on of the wiki, consider adding the noticeboard to your watchlist.

Atari games[edit]

Hi Ceegers, I saw on your user page that you have a bunch of Atari games. Could you list them here for us/me? Maybe we could use a scan of the cartridge. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:38, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Edit: Info moved to main page -- Ceegers (talk) 01:13, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I linked all of the games so we can tell which ones have pages (or need their own page; some games share the same name as future games). Anyways, could you do me the biggest favor and start an effort to scan them? Photos are fine of cartridges, but getting box art digitized perfectly is something I really strive for. Far down the road: scan the manuals. I don't want to scare you off. Anything helps, really, but you re sitting on a gold mine of information. Great collection by the way. Very cool. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 05:26, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Changed E.T. to proper name. I'll have to check into Mega Force, as it's redirecting to a game not listed as available on Atari. The collection is due to having a dad who was into video games when he was my age :) -- Ceegers (talk) 07:39, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Made a redirect for E.T.. Is this the Mega Force cartridge you have? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 15:18, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes indeed, and I see somebody "made room" for it. Found the rest of the games, and started collapsible lists of games on my user page. Also got an adapter so the Atari works... now to figure out where the controllers are :-/ -- Ceegers (talk) 01:13, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I brought up the issue with the guy who made the Star Force guide, Procyon (talk · contribs), one of our bureaucrats who reminded me of how we handle official alternative names (since Mega Force came out before the Star Force rename, the Atari 2600 game gets the main title; the other one is now Mega Force (Arcade)). Nice games list. Have you ever written a guide or collected info on games? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:40, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I have not actually written a guide, though I have considered doing so, but usually decide against it as the games I feel like doing so for are usually old games that have all sorts of guides out there by now. But I like the idea of this being 1 collaborated guide. As far as collecting info on games... well depends on what you mean I suppose. For example, playing Kirby Super Star, I once went through and figured out how much damage almost all the different abilities' attacks cause. Occasionally I'll do stuff like that. -- Ceegers (talk) 18:53, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Guide page history[edit]

Hi Ceegers. I saw the note you put in one of the Portal Walkthrough talk pages. Your effort to preserve deleted content is appreciated, but it's unnecessary. All of a page's edit history is preserved by the database that powers the site. If you look at the page's history, you'll see that the contents of sidebar will always be available to anyone who browses through the history to see what modifications were made to the page and when. Also, I responded to your post in the Staff lounge concerning multi-upload. Procyon 05:11, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Right, I knew that... silly me. And yes, I saw, thanks :) -- Ceegers (talk) 05:17, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Image/File usage[edit]

It uses one less byte. I just do it whenever I see it. "File:" replaced "Image:" to help reduce excess data on Wikipedia. At the top of this page you can see: "Images that are stored on a MediaWiki server are usually rendered by using the File: namespace prefix (but the legacy Image: namespace prefix is still supported as a synonym) as the target of a MediaWiki link."--Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:00, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Featured Guide nomination for Portal[edit]

I've added Portal to StrategyWiki:Featured guides/Current requests. Please chime in and add your support. This doesn't mean the guide is 100% complete, but I think you've done a great job revamping it. If you have any additional ideas for the guide, let us know on the comments section there. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:13, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Btw, I can't really help add/test content as my main PC is a laptop and it overheats and crashedafter playing the game for a few minutes. Maybe in the winter it will work a bit better... --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:46, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Haha, no worries. It's been kinda fun doing this, and for what I'm currently working on, cool to finish getting the last few challenge achievements. I'm probably gonna post it to my facebook once I'm done(ish) with it and see if any of my friends feel like checking it out and giving suggestions. One friend in particular should be able to tell me anything wrong pretty much immediately if he checks it out. Ceegers (talk) 03:42, 21 September 2012 (UTC).

Screenshots without showing your desktop[edit]

Try these alternate key combinations: http://osxdaily.com/2010/05/13/print-screen-mac/ --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 03:36, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Gah, I've been cropping that out of all my others... I'll get on it -- Ceegers (talk)
Just tryina save us both some work :P I hope your technical skills level up a bit from all this. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 03:48, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Image descriptions - omit which pages it is used on[edit]

If a file has been placed on a page, then the file's page will link to it automatically near the bottom, just above the categories and metadata. -There's no need to update what it is used for. If a file is unused, it will be deleted. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 04:29, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Well the guide does say "An appropriate description is one which links back to the relevant game" and if the page linking to it is all that's necessary, why bother saying that in the guide? -- Ceegers (talk) 04:31, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
You misunderstand. We want you to link to the main page of the guide. Not the supposed subpage. The subpage may change, so keeping that sort of data is hard to track. The link is also optional, but I prefer it when I work with images because it makes it easy to move around the site. It's not a big deal, but since I saw you edit a page, I thought I'd help you prevent additional work. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 06:54, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Portal transmission glitch?[edit]

I started playing Portal last night, just the first two chambers, but transmission received was failing for me. In the first chamber the radio wouldn't change, so I threw it through the vaporizer force field and went to the second chamber. In the second chamber, the radio wasn't even there! wtf? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 15:39, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Did you notice it's a Steam-only achievement? Doesn't apply to xbox or ps3 apparently. There's a couple comments about that in the talk section. It says Steam only on the achievements page, but I guess I need to change it to say that on that transmission received page as well. -- Ceegers (talk) 19:12, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I did notice that, but I'm on Steam! Do you have to beat the game once before you can get these? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:45, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Huh... well I can't seem to find something official on the matter, but that does seem to be the consensus from searching around, that it only happens after you've beaten it once. -- Ceegers (talk) 20:17, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
This isn't exactly official, but it's close enough: http://theportalwiki.com/wiki/Obtaining_Portal_achievements confirms that thought -- Ceegers (talk) 20:22, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Aha! I thought so. Yeah, invisible radios would make the challenge quite the annoyance. :P --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:27, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
What's interesting is that I am currently playing on an account that has beaten the game (has some achievements; will need to double check if the heartbreaker one is on the account), but since I just installed it on my PC, the first play through thing is enabled. I am also going to test to see if the radios are available without beating the whole game - perhaps they are available after completing the individual chamber (e.g. start a new game or load a chamber for practice)... I am not that familiar with the menus yet so I'm not being very specific with my action, but I'll report back when I can. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:36, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Ordered lists with custom start[edit]

I added an example to StrategyWiki:Guide/Wiki markup. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:18, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Portal renomination[edit]

Re-nominated, please add support at StrategyWiki:Featured_guides/Current_requests#Portal. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:24, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Nice job[edit]

The Tetris Attack puzzle guide is coming along great. The formatting you chose works very well. My only recommendation, and this is strictly a matter of opinion so feel free to ignore it, would be to line all the pictures up on the right side. I used to like to alternate pictures left and right too, but now I only do it for pictures within a single heading, not for pictures that appear under their own headings. Procyon 12:03, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

I hear ya. I think I might actually put them all on the left instead, because I feel like it makes it easier to look back and forth between the pictures and the words, and also breaks up the constant text on the left side. Hmm... -- Ceegers (talk) 13:36, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
