Welcome to StrategyWiki!

Hello Najzere! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. If you need help editing, check the StrategyWiki Guide. If you have a question about the content on this wiki, you can check out our staff lounge page. If you want to ask questions or hang out in IRC, we're usually around. On the other hand, if you have ideas for StrategyWiki, bring them up on the forums. Please remember to sign your name on, and only on, talk pages by clicking Wikisigbutton.png or using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Finally, please do your best to always fill in the edit summary field as this helps to document all of your hard work. Feel free to delete this message from your talk page if you like, or keep it for reference. Happy editing! -- Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Additionally, please understand Wikipedia's policy on regional language differences, as we go by that standard. You might also want to look at American and British English differences. I am advising you not to change regional spellings UNLESS it is to standardize the guide (if it was originally written in British, then use that style, and vice versa). Thanks, --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Content listings

__TOC__ content listing is generated automatically if a page has about 3 or more headers. Forcing it should only be done in certain circumstances. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:40, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me on that. I added the __TOC__ on pages of the Dog Island walkthrough to conform with most of the other pages. Could you be more explicit about which circumstances the TOC should be forced? I was just going off my personal aesthetics, but if using them in that manner isn't widely seen throughout StrategyWiki, then perhaps I should remove them. What do you think? Najzere 17:50, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
The reason the system is already automated is because 1-2 headers does not make the ToC effective. For example on [The Dog Island/Walkthrough]], scrolling down with my mouse wheel is no more difficult than clicking on the box. Off the top of my head I can't think of a specific example where some special circumstance came into play, but I know we've used it before. Most of the time, our forced headers end up becoming "custom ToCs" (see Chrono Trigger/Techniques for an example). Also, a time when a forced ToC may appear with two headers is when the first sections have a lot of content. However, in these cases we usually mark them for cleanup because they probably could have some sub headers thrown in for organization. As a general rule of thumb, don't force ToCs because by the time the page has a significant amount of content, the ToC will automatically appear. Hope that helps, --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:40, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah that definitely helps. I'm on my way to remove them... - najzere 22:41, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup Project

I followed a link to your user page from Melon's talk page and saw that you are interested in helping with cleanup. I'd like to point you to our cleanup project where we have ongoing items that need attention. Feel free to head over there and join up. If you have any questions, ask any of the administrators or better yet, bring it up on the project talk page. Cheers and welcome!--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 03:47, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I was wondering how to join a project. So far I've just gone to individual guides and done some piecemeal work. I'll check out the link. - najzere 03:54, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
"Joining" a project just means you help out with the related content/work. On SW, we only have two official projects: cleanup and moves list (for fighting games). Basically, if you make yourself known, you're in. Also know that the admins on this site review every change, so at least one of the regulars (like me and Duke) will see you. Unofficially, I would say our voting pages (Collaboration of the Month, Featured guides, Requested guides, and adminship) count as projects too, and we also have a project going on in the background that only the admins have been working on (shhh). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 05:38, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Dog Island Mission Names

Najzara, I don't suppose you would happen to have a good memory? I don't, but I'm trying to make the mission names the same as they are when you go to Memo in the game. The only ones I can really remember are 'Road to Rode' and a few others that are so far in the game I haven't got to that part in the walkthrough yet. You can't remember any of the mission names, can you? I just thought that it would make it easier to look for what you're looking for in the guide. Sorry, am I confusing you? Because I think I'm confusing myself --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Actually you can go into Memo and check your Diary at any time to see the names of all the missions you've done. I've never seen the UK version of this game, but I assume the basic gameplay and GUI are the same. - najzere 15:09, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

This isn't about missions actually, more about images. I'll se if I can find or create some images and I'll put them on the pages, and I'll leave you to name them because you did a pretty good job on Dog's Life (although some things were a bit wrong, but I'm assuming you don't have the game). Deal? --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 11:44, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I can name The Dog Island images. You're right, I don't have the Dog's Life game, I'm just trying to get the guide to featured status. If any of the captions are wrong, please change them. I wouldn't have touched them really, except the captions need to be complete sentences. - najzere 19:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for adding all that other information on The Dog Island. I would have added it myself but I prefer to write walkthroughs and now I have become addicted to Sims 2. Since you seem to be able to remember everything about the dog island, you could make the headings for the missions (if you want to) and I'll do the walkthrough bit. I'd prefer it it you'd let me do the walkthrough because otherwise I'll have nothing to do! Let me know you're opinion, and just to let you know I have this page on my watchlish. I'm a watchlist type of person.Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 08:59, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

You know you put those films on YouTubu, how on earth do you manage to take them!? I want to record Dog's Life, but all i can do is record it on my laptop. Do you need some kind of cable or something?Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 08:44, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Well there are a bunch of ways to do it. You can use a DVD recorder if you have one, then a program to rip the files off the DVD and compress them. If you have a video capture card in your laptop you can take input directly from the TV or the PlayStation using component, composite or S-video cables. I used an external S-video to USB capture device, which puts enormous MPEG-2 files on my computer. Then I compress them down into high quality .mp4 files. You can use a program like VirtualDub to edit, cleanup and compress your files. Unfortunately, YouTube pretty much destroys all the quality when they process the videos. I'm not sure if they convert them to .flv files or what, since you can stream .mp4, but whatever they do just upload the highest quality video you can to them, otherwise your videos might end up totally unwatchable. - najzere 15:22, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Do you know where you can get any of them? In the Uk, that is, because I'm not sure what country you're in.Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 11:07, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm in the U.S. I got my capture card for 40 bucks on newegg.com, but you can find them on pretty much any electronics retailer site. - najzere 15:02, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
If you don't mind me asking, what brand/model did you get? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 23:44, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
It's the DVD Maker USB 2.0 from KWorld, currently priced at $38.99 on newegg.com/dvdmaker. It makes huge MPEG-2 files on your computer which you need to periodically manually delete, and when you're done it writes .VOB files for you with a custom (shitty) preview thing appended to the front of the file. In addition to the hardware and it's attendant software, you're also going to want a program to snip off that beginning cruft and compress the files down into a smaller container, like .mp4. - najzere 06:26, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

I think you'd be interested in these games, because they're a bit like the dog island. And also I was wondering if you're going to make pages for the other collector lists, and I put them on the TOC for you. And do you know what the four mini book things the bug collecter list is divided into (and if you do, can you put it on the bug colector page unless I missed it somewhere). Thanks, and good luck with the whole sysop thing (wish I could be you)! --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 18:31, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

I've heard of those games, mostly because people on GameFAQs ask if they're the same as Dog Island. I hear they're basically the same idea, but much easier. I'm still thinking about the other collector books, because there is far less information regarding them. The Fish Collector probably merits its own page, but the Food and Flower collections can probably be combined into one. I guess we'll also have to consider the consistency between having separate pages for some collections but not others. I do reference the mini-books here. I will make it more explicit that the mini-books are split up by category (i.e. A bug with beautiful wings, Bug that flies straight, etc.) I need to go in there and change "slit" to "split" anyway. Thanks for throwing in your support on the Request for permissions page. Someday we'll both be SysOps and all the animal games will be at level 4! - najzere 18:45, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

This has totally nothing to do with The Dog Island (so I don't know why I'm saying it here) but do you know why there's this user who changed your user and user talk pages to vandalism names? I don't think it was just you, considering I think it happened to Duckeruckley aswell. Perhaps he's some connection with Mr.Sue (a user who was banned ages ago, I think). And thanks for support or whatever and for helping out on Dog's Life... it's nearly there now! --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 15:54, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Arrow has a stalker who continues to vandalize his user and talk pages. I guess anyone who reverts and/or bans him gets on his shit list too, which would explain why my pages got hijacked. Yeah, I think Dog's Life is pretty much done by now. Unless someone comes up with a huge change, it's pretty much up to people to vote on the nomination page. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. By the way, I see you are checking out recent changes and doing cleanup and marking articles for deletion and such. That's awesome and a big help, so thanks! - najzere 16:59, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Ok, going back to what this discussion was originally about, are the names of the missions in the US and UK versions different? I've actually been writing the names down in a notebook as I do them (don't tell anyone) but then I just forgot to do it after the one 'Entrance of the Cave' (when you find the four heavy stones to get to the Chilly Fields). So... are they the same, or different? All of the titles after 'The Fainted Nurse 2' I've got in my notebook. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 17:50, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I still don't understand why you need to write them down. All the missions you've done are in your diary and they can be accessed at any time. If I notice any differences between the missions names you're putting in the guide and what's on my game, then I'll mention it, but I expect they'll be the same. - najzere 01:06, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I write them down so that if anyone is looking for a mission they found in their diary they'll know which one it is. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 10:09, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

I found something on Trouble with the Victory Gang Dogs which was so funny that I had to just spit it out... under 'Bee Problems' is seems you changed Dougal from being a Bernese mountain Dog to a Bermese Mountain Dog. If you're wondering why I thought that was funny was because a Bermese is a type of cat! I have a book on dog breeds and they're defenitely bernese (with an n, I might have spelt the rest of the breed wrong). And also now I have Dogz I saw Warren, who walks around Dolphin Coast, and he looks exactly like Alex from The Dog Island, just with a bigger body. He has that teacher hat on and one of those white things round his neck and he even has the right glasses! And he's a Black Labrador. Sorry if I'm wasting your time bust I was just desperate to tell somebody! : ) --Melon247 12:09, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Hey good catch on the Burmese/Burnese thing! Yeah, those game companies will recycle whatever they can to keep pumping out titles. - najzere 16:09, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Your UserNav

I modified your UserNav template a bit so that it used external links instead of internal links. The issue with the latter is that viewing it on the page that it links to causes the formatting to go haywire. There really isn't anything I can do about it either without modifying site CSS, which I'd rather not do for something that is only in use on 3 users' pages. --Skizzerz 20:34, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Ah, okay, I see the difference. Thanks for the edit. - najzere 20:37, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Cave Story

For me, the ToC fits neatly to the right of the galleries, and I'm running a screen resolution of 1280x1024. I didn't think about those with smaller screens, but what you're experiencing isn't good. I'll see if I can do anything about that. I don't think there's anything you can do about changing the gallery widths, etc..

To do the equivalent of <a name="anchorname"></a>, you can wrap the "heading" in a <div id="anchorname">...</div> tag. However, using proper headings is the correct thing to do here anyway. --DrBob (talk) 14:35, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

You could also just get rid of the top galleries, cause all the images are at the bottom already. -- Prod (Talk) 15:08, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
That would make the most sense, because I think it's more likely someone looking for info would be looking for enemies on a specific level rather than a picture of what they saw in the game. - najzere 05:49, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'm on 1024x768 so that would explain it. - najzere 05:49, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Guild Wars

There's a lot of content to go into for each profession, which is why they're subpaged. Things like skill descriptions, build suggestions, equipment they have access to, etc. -- Prod (Talk) 17:35, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Fixed. - najzere 19:18, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
They're supposed to be sorted by the expansion they came with. The pages suggest renames to sort them as such. One issue is that the subtoc doesn't expand properly when visiting pages in that guide. That's one thing I'll need to fix, probably in the subtoc template. -- Prod (Talk) 20:35, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good. - najzere 20:37, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Deletion

Please don't copy and paste text from one page to the other. Use the Move button at the top. This keeps the history intact and is necessary for the terms of the GFDL. If you are splitting something into two new pages, rename the page to one of them. When creating the other page, make a note in the edit history where you got the text from. -- Prod (Talk) 22:25, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I was actually just thinking today about asking how to get the history pages to follow to a new page. I didn't even notice the "Move" tab up there. How do you rename a page? If you could, would you use this last split I did as an example? I should have used the "Move" tab and moved the whole thing over to Castle of the Winds/Interface, then gone back to the original Castle of the Winds/Interface and Controls page, which would now be a redirect, and rename it to Castle of the Winds/Controls. Is that how it works? I just don't know how to rename the page. Thanks for your help, I'm trying to do some cleaning up, not make the mess bigger, you know? - najzere 22:42, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Already taken care of :). -- Prod (Talk) 04:10, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Cool. And I just found the rename template, so I think I have everything I need. - najzere 05:20, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Your sig

The colors should go inside of the alternate text, e.g. <font color="green">zere</font>, otherwise the colors won't show up on other pages. --Skizzerz 00:25, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! - najzere 00:42, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Can I have some help I can't make my name change colors I really want it to I want Wiki to be green man to be blue 6 to be yellow 2 to be red and 5 to be grey! Wikiman625

Hey Naj, just wanted to say I think it's awesome that you're adding to the Door Door guide. Keep up the great work :) Procyon (Talk) 01:08, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hey, thanks for adding the template to the object pages for The Sims 2.:) Sims2Guy 06:15, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I'll finish them up eventually, but it's pretty repetitive, so I'm going in spurts. - najzere 06:54, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Dangerous Seed

Hi. I can see what you intended to do with the HNs on Dangerous Seed, but that breaks quite a few things. The way all the templates are designed on StrategyWiki assumes that every guide has a Walkthrough page, unless a guide is a one-page guide. Forking the HN twice to create custom HNs for Dangerous Seed is something we strongly discourage, since we only recently managed to eliminate the mess caused by custom HNs created early in StrategyWiki's lifetime, and I don't want to see a repeat of that!

Apart from that, I'll take the opportunity to thank you for all the work you've done on StrategyWiki cleaning stuff up. Keep going this way, and we might coerce you into being a sysop (then you're trapped here for life). :-D --DrBob (talk) 15:48, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Year categories

You also don't need to add year categories to articles, since any article using rd (or any of its derivatives, such as uk) should automatically be categorised by year. All articles should be using rd templates, and if you find an article which isn't, please convert it. --DrBob (talk) 16:07, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Got it. Thanks for the help on the Dangerous Seed pages. -najzere 01:22, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Additionally, company pages belong in the category namespace. -- Prod (Talk) 05:55, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Copyvio deletion

My main reasons for deleting it is that it clears out any ambiguity about the page being a copyright violation. Usually we delete the page as soon as it's confirmed to be a unacceptable by the original author. As it was rewritten, we didn't need the old versions any more, and the copyright violator doesn't really deserve to be mentioned in the edit history. -- Prod (Talk) 05:45, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Okay I don't get the first part. Are you talking about the original author of the copyrighted work, or the SW page? If the former, why should he have to explicitly disclaim his acceptance or rejection of every violation of his copyright? If the latter, under what circumstances would a person who plagiarized someone's work then turn around and confirm they did so unacceptably?
I agree that the we don't need the history and the copyright violator doesn't deserve mention, but he wasn't actually in the history of the page to begin with, as far as I know. When I found that there was copyvio, I checked to history to determine if it was the same author or at least ask on his talk page, but the first user I see in any of the history pages is User:Antaios, but he was just editing what was already there. (Also, he doesn't seem like the type to make copyvio pages.) At any rate, what should we do about the remaining pages? Delete them or wait until they're rewritten? - najzere 09:55, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
If X wrote the guide and Y posted it here, we check the license they've released it under on their original page. If it might be open for interpretation, we email X to see if they're willing to let us keep it, or if they might seem like the same person (similar user names) we ask them if they are the same person. As for this specific case, I did it as a matter of course. Looking back through the history now, that guide has been released by the original author and was simply subpaged by Antaios. I restored the page. -- Prod (Talk) 18:03, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Dangerous Seed

My change was only to get rid of the tables, the * was the easiest way to get things to line up. Having lists like that is mostly useless without some actual content to go along with it. -- Prod (Talk) 18:05, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd say just to leave it until someone adds some useful information. There just isn't enough content there to worry about the layout. I'd say just stick to a single column list until someone gets around to adding information about the enemies (hits to kill, speed, etc). The other option is to just convert them to a gallery. -- Prod (Talk) 19:12, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay, sounds good. Thanks. - najzere 19:41, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
The main reason to not use tables is it is a put off for many people. Those without knowledge of HTML may avoid editing tables altogether because it's confusing to them. However, I have noticed many people who have adapted to just filling in the blanks of tables. Personally, I don't think it would harm the page to convert them to look more sleek. I've added the Enemies page, where a repository of all the enemies should appear, with details. This will allow the enemies on the stages page to simply reflect what enemies appear there. We can always add Details to link back to the enemies page on each of the stages if someone thinks it's necessary. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:10, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan. Also, I think the risk of deterring editors is minimized by the fact that all the enemies appear in the table already, so there is no need to add more rows or cells, which is the confusing part. - najzere 22:16, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't think an "enemies" page is relevant here, since the enemies only show up on one level (I would assume based on the type of game). I would also assume that most are 1 hit to kill (except for bosses). If there were more to add than just the name and image, a table would be useful, but until some figures out what all to put for it, the discussion is pointless. -- Prod (Talk) 22:35, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Arcade buttons

I like the idea for the 1P button and the Neutral joystick, since some moves incorporate the Start button (like taunting). I'm not sure how beneficial a 2P button would be, but I suppose it couldn't hurt. What I don't understand is, what would be the purpose of creating transparent buttons in order to provide color backdrops? When would that ever be needed? What arcade games are we really in needed of colored buttons for beside Neo-Geo games, which intentionally share the red-yellow-green-blue design? I'll see when I can pump out a 1P and 2P button. Not sure how the Neutral joystick icon should look. In what context do you intend to use it? Procyon (Talk) 21:09, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Well originally I was looking for something along those lines for the Dangerous Seed Controls page, for which I wasn't able to find arcade images. The reason I was thinking of color-swappable buttons was mainly from recently adding a bunch of old NES games. Many of them have arcade counterparts, and depending on the cabinet, they utilize different colored buttons. Some are all red, some are all blue, some have letters, some don't, some 1P/2P buttons are white, some are yellow, etc. It seemed like too many combinations to actually make all those buttons, so I was thinking of a workaround. The easiest thing to do would be to just use whatever color the buttons happen to be, as which button (A, B, 1P, etc.) is more important than the color on the original arcade version. Especially since you'd be hard-pressed to find one still standing these days anyway. For the neutral joystick, I was thinking of a side-view like:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3228/joysticksiy3.jpg

Looking forward to whatever you come up with! - najzere 21:34, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
We've never tried to accurately represent the color of any particular buttons other than the Neo-Geo buttons, since color rarely factors into the gameplay. If an image of the control panel is available, we include it, but we simply refer to the buttons as "Fire", "Jump", etc. The most important thing is that the individual controls are identified for the player so they understand what you're talking about when you refer to them later in the guide. There are already a couple of games that straddle both the NES and Arcade cats. Off the top of my head Commando, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Ikari Warriors, Arkanoid, and Kung-Fu Master to name a few. As for the neutral joystick image, I thought you needed something to express that returning the joystick to the neutral position was part of a command or a move. If you're just looking for a generic joystick icon, any one of those would be fine as long as they're public domain. Procyon (Talk) 22:33, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay, none of those are public domain. So what I'm seeing is no arcade buttons, but use a photo of the actual box if there is one. Unfortunately I couldn't find any photos for Dangerous Seed or Hydro Thunder, the two I know about. I guess we'll just have to be satisfied with text explanations on these. Thanks for the input. - najzere 22:56, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Here is a fairly clean image of the cabinet, perhaps you could zoom in a little on the control panel and clip it. I'll also check eBay. Procyon (Talk) 23:10, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
eBay rocks! Procyon (Talk) 23:12, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Well I did find a bunch of pictures for Hydro Thunder, but I didn't think they were usable. The other arcade photos on guides have a direct view and only the button/joystick part of the machine. This guy is selling his machine for $300! He's got a pretty good closeup of the controls, but it's pretty beat up and the throttle is obscured. I don't want to put something up if it's going to look like ass. Just saw your edit...is it okay if we crop out the watermark in the lower right corner? - najzere 23:18, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but I've looked into transparency overlaying images a while back. From what I remember being told, getting images to overlay properly in all browsers like that isn't an easy task. -- Prod (Talk) 00:55, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

If both images are the same size you just need to line a corner up. In a clear <div> you assign relative positioning, then assign the background image with absolute positioning with top and right = 0, then the foreground image with absolute positioning and the same right and top = 0. Looks like this:
That's a 24x24 yellow square, with a 24x24 fight move icon on top. Of course now you have to find out how to deal with a relatively positioned <div>. :) - najzere 05:57, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Maths

No; the <math> tags are a MediaWiki option, which we haven't got set up on StrategyWiki. The forum topic I started is about potentially setting it up so that the tags work. Nothing about editing pages is linked to permissions/user status (just actions on pages, such as moving them, deleting them, etc.). --DrBob (talk) 21:42, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I'll follow the thread with interest. Until then I'll just pat myself on the back for ingeniously rendering my own MathText. :)~ - najzere 21:49, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Merging histories

With pages that short, merging histories is unnecessary. It's easier to just copy paste in the information. As long as you properly attribute the edit in the summary, it should be fine. What you've got there now looks good. -- Prod (Talk) 06:51, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Blue Phoenix

Give BP a little latitude, he's been experimenting with new layouts and he's doing a fairly good job with it, although I don't always agree with every choice he makes. Plus, that Neo Geo Pocket fighter is not nearly as popular or visited as some of the other Ryu pages like the SF2, SFA, or SF3 pages, so that's it a good testing ground. Procyon (Talk) 18:44, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

(Just figured I'd stick my response here...) Yeah, I suppose we should bring them back. The fact is, SNESMaster hasn't been on in ages, and I'd rather just strip the copyright info off those images anyway. Once it's gone, who's to say who did those maps. Anyone can generate that kind of content. Credit like that should be given in the image history, not on the image itself. That's the way I look at it... not to slight anyone for their hard and appreciated work. Procyon (Talk) 19:28, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good. - najzere 19:57, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Head and Foot Navigation.

You'd be surprised how much of a learning experience I have gone through. If it weren't for the message I recieved today, I wouldn't have the guts of putting in the header and footer on the pages on Need for Speed: Undercover. By the way, I'm sorry about Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart Wii. All I was thinking about was the players perspective when it comes to the menus to see which buttons can be used to help navigate and maybe I went overboard suggesting that you can smash down on the controls. I hope to put that behind me and move on with the feeling of relief. All that's left to learn is where you can ... how should I put this? Download the boxart image and upload it on to this site. I spent a huge time learning about links, categories and finally nailing the Table of Contents. I have to go back and forward trying to get the links right.

Anyway, I'll remember off by heart with the header and footer. It will take a lot of guts should anything else happen. Johnnyauau2000 06:11, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Lode Runner and CPC

MobyGames has screenshots from the Amstrad CPC version of Lode Runner... pretty sure it's legit: http://www.mobygames.com/game/cpc/lode-runner/screenshots. Procyon (Talk) 00:48, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Also, we want to leave the cats in Nemesis, because even though it is the same game as Gradius, Nemesis is also an official release name, and it should show up in the Categories of the systems it was released on. For example, Gradius was released as Nemesis in the arcades, but not for the NES. So Nemesis does get an arcade cat, but not a NES cat. Procyon (Talk) 00:50, 5 December 2008 (UTC)-
Okay, well lost my first response but was just saying thanks for verifying the lode runner one, I was able to find verification for most of the other games that aren't on the WP list for some reason. I think leaving categories in the redirects is fine if we're not double-posting them. For Amstrad CPC, it's showing up twice in the Guide completion page (Contra and Gryzor, Nemesis and Gradius, etc), making it seem like we've done more CPC games than we really have. Keep all categories in both places and add a link in the CPC games list, or only categorize names that actually came out for that system? - najzere 00:59, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about the edit conflict. We came to the conclusion some time ago, that every game should appear for each system with the title it was released as. In a couple of cases, it is correct to have multiple names for one game appear in that list (such as Contra, Gryzor, and Probotector for the NES. All the same game, all official release names in different regions.) However, in the case of Gradius, you're right, I believe it was only ever released as Nemesis for the CPC, and never as Gradius, so Gradius should not be showing up in the CPC category. I hope my answer made sense :) Procyon (Talk) 01:11, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, totally. If I run into any more games that were released with different names on the same system, I'll just make sure the system game list has both of them. Thanks for clearing that up! - najzere 05:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Red Alert 3

I really liked some of your strategies on the crazy Mount Rushmore mission, Allied Mission 6. Freezing the limo with the Cryoblast, I never thought of that!! That's great! <lol>

Actually, I've never played C&C myself, I just cleanup the pages. Some unregistered IP (58.179.137.116) made that edit. Dogz and Catz Help!

I was thinking of trying to get Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2 to somewhere near featured guide status (but won't be for a long while, because I'm only playing through for the second time and having to do a mission and then type it up so I don't forget) but the problem is that it is like the dog island and so there's lots of bugs and fish and stuff like that. How on earth did you manage to come up with all the info on the dog island bug thing? Some of the bugs are simular (I caught a bell cricket yesterday) but there's also wierd things like a golden daragonfly and stuff. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 14:07, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Basically it just takes a logical, systematic approach. I just have the kind of personality where I have to collect everything in a game and I like to figure out how the mechanics work. From what I've seen, Dogz and Catz are basically the same games as The Dog Island, with all of them being a Yuke's production. They used the same engine for all the games, so it wouldn't surprise me if the bug collecting was the same as well. They would try and use as many shortcuts as possible to pump out those titles.
The first thing I would do if I were you, is see if they're exactly the same. Find a bug somewhere, then run in and out of the area and see if the bug changes at that location. If so, see whether you always find the same bugs elsewhere in that area depending on which bug is at the original location. If it's like The Dog Island, you'll find that the game cycles through a few different preset setups, and each one has the same bugs in the same locations every time. Dogz is a somewhat dumbed-down from The Dog Island, so don't be surprised if you find it's not that complicated. If that's not how it's done, just catch a bunch of bugs and look for a pattern. At the very least, you should be able to find out which bugs can be captured in each area, if not exactly how and when they show up. Good luck! - najzere 15:37, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for the tips! Luckily for me, there's a magic encyclopedia which tells you exactly where to find the bugs, but it only tells you the level when you have been there at least once. I'll probably have to find another notebook to write things down. At the moment I'm trying to catch all the bugs anyway because I might get a rare item of chothing (oooooooooooh). --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 18:08, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

And also hopefully after christmas I'll be able to take films of the games I've got, but the annoying thing is that we have two TVs in our house and only one can have that S-Video thing plugged into it and that's the one with the playstation with it. So I'll just have to hope that Dogz comes quickly and then I can get maps of the areas. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 11:17, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

So far I've been in and out of Dolphin Coast probably about twenty times and found where all the bugs are. I don't have a map yet for any of the levels so I just described where they are (I have a hand drawn one in a notebook and I'm marking everything in there, so I know where everything needs to go if I make an imagemap). I also found out that the same bugs are there all day (and night) long. So it doesn't look nearly as good as your one for The Dog Island, and also I need to work out how to make the bits on the table equal. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 17:55, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Thanks for mentioning that but what can I do? Christmas is coming and I could use a break after New Years Day. I'll try to fill in some gaps as long as I'm not under stressed. Anyway, I'll do my best until Christmas and yes I'll use my own words. Well what can I say? Merry Christmas. Johnnyauau2000 05:54, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

By the way, how could this game be the Collaberation of the Month? Normally those games were out of date but somehow gets nominated. Anyway, I like to do it but I'm puzzled at the same time. I left it on the discussion page on The Windwaker about my concern that doesn't make sense but they'll understand. Anyway, it's funny this game, five years old and yet gets nominated. I don't know how they did it but they did it. If there's going to be anymore nominations and its part of my guide, let me know because I do forget sometimes. Johnnyauau2000 13:20, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Collaboration of the Month projects are can be nominated by anyone, and can be pretty much anything; there's no criteria for when a game was released or how popular it is. Feel free to nominate a guide you're working on by following the link I left on your talk page. For Wind Waker, what would be most helpful is filling out the appendices with raw data. Things like locations of Chus, withered deku trees, pieces of heart, etc. If it's pure data, there's no copyright issue as long as we don't copy the guide's presentation. - najzere 16:33, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I appreciate it. Now, I just need someone like you who knows how to sort it out so that when I get into it, there won't be anymore problems with the article. I'm just curious whether all guides are restricted to this font type and background colour. It could use a bit of spice. Anyway, I'll do what I can. Johnnyauau2000 06:03, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
In general all the guides should have the same "look" and "feel." Color schemes, layout and things of that nature have been decided on a global level. Where we might be able to do something "spicy," would be with templates. There is a fair degree of latitude given, as far as I can see. I've personally made a few (Zelda TP enemy and SR2mission for example) and I know others have done the same (like Zelda PoH and OoT Skulltula). Also, adding pictures can make the guide look a lot better. - najzere 06:35, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: Duke Nukem 3D

I'm not sure what the standard method is- putting the episodes under one article each, or having separate level articles with 30+ links in the TOC? JeremyMcCracken 10:40, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

From the links you've made under each article, I can see that each level is getting its own page, in which case they should be on the Table of Contents. If you were putting them all as sections on the same page, then it would be fine. The ToC clutter looks like it's coming from the additional information in parentheses after some of the levels. Those could be handled by putting all the secret levels under their own section, or by not indicating they're secret levels on the ToC at all, just on their respective pages. The issue I have is creating five pages to handle what the ToC is supposed to be doing. You can see on guides like Guild Wars and C&C Zero Hour how large the ToCs can get. - najzere 10:56, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'll put the levels on the TOC and do away with the episode articles. JeremyMcCracken 19:37, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
I think Garrett already fixed the ToC and redid the Walkthrough page. Sorry to hijack your edits like that, we just want all the guides to have a uniform look and feel. I'm looking forward to seeing flesh out the guide though! - najzere 19:40, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: Main page preload template

How about keeping the fields and leaving them blank? They won't show up in the infobox if there's nothing in the parameter. - najzere 06:09, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

The problem with preloading a larger version of the template is that new users might think they need to fill in all those extra things. This is only my opinion, of course; feel free to ask some of the others. Maybe some could be put in and others left out, or something like that. GarrettTalk 06:15, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Super Mario RPG enemies

The <div>s would certainly be nice. Linking to individual enemies is why I was trying to get away from the table. The only reason I went to three pages of enemies was to try and keep it more manageable (rather than one hard-to-navigate monolithic list). Out of curiosity, which do you think would be easier to navigate, one big page with alphabetTOC or three smaller pages? Zelda ALttP item Flute.pngShadowtrooperTalk 19:45, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Well the pros to having it on one page is you don't have to navigate to three separate ones, and when you reference an enemy from a different page, you only have to use one link (../Enemies#enemyname) instead of remembering which page it's on (A-F#enemyname or G-O) and if you wanted to do a link to an enemy on the same page, such as in the table on the Enemies page, you could just use #enemyname for all of them. On the negative side, it's one big page so maybe loading time becomes an issue. Really with the alphabet ToC, it's pretty much the same as organizing them by alphabetic pages. Better maybe, since once you get to the Enemies A-F page, you still have to contend with one large list of all enemies on the page to find the one you want. What did you think of the Twilight Princess one? - najzere 19:54, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
After playing around with it a bit, the alpha ToC doesn't seem quite as bad as I though it might be. I think I'll go ahead and do that and just hope no one minds cleaning up (deleting) my mess too much. :) Zelda ALttP item Flute.pngShadowtrooperTalk 19:59, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Okay cool. All you need for it to work are ==Level 2== headings with just the letter of the alphabet. Do you want me to look at anchoring the names in the template, or can you handle that? - najzere 20:01, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
If you would be so kind it would certainly be appreciated. That way, the anchors can get done while I work on fixing the organization of the list. Zelda ALttP item Flute.pngShadowtrooperTalk 20:04, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Okay, the template's done. I had to add a row for the name, since you won't be using the ===Level 3=== headings anymore. Whatever you put in the name parameter will also be the anchor, so just link to an individual enemy with it's name (../Enemies#enemyname). - najzere 20:32, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks muchly! Zelda ALttP item Flute.pngShadowtrooperTalk 20:39, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

I made some more changes to the Enemies page and the template so the formatting looks a little cleaner. Another change we could make would be to put pairs of enemies in their own 2s instead of half in one and half in the other. That might even out the little bit of vertical alignment issues between the two sides. Also, we could hardcode the widths of the columns in the tables so they're all the same. The only problem with that is the variable widths of the images. Both of those ideas aren't too critical though, so it's up to you. - najzere 21:19, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

The Dog Island Enemies

How come it seems to come under 'Getting Started'? I would have thought that it should be under 'appendices'. And also I'm not sure if that buffalo thing works because I did that once and the buffalo walked back and I followed it from some way off and then it just turned around and charged at me. Infact, the only time I've even managed to stun a buffalo wasn't even in The Dog Island it was in Catz and that was just atfer it had decided to throw me through the air. I think there should be something on that enemies page abuot how sniffing wakes up enemies the same as running past them and they notice you, they can probably hear you sniffing. --Melon247 10:27, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

I moved Enemies under Getting Started because it contains gameplay stuff about how enemies and howling works, and the info on specific critters is something people might like to know before they run into them in the game. As for the other stuff, it might be a version difference. Do you play Dog Island on the Wii or the PS2? I have tested everything I put on the page thoroughly, and on the Wii version at least, Buffalo don't notice you walking by them and sniffing is as good as walking. Digging alerts enemies though. I've been going through finding all the items that enemies drop, so I've got the method for howling at them down pretty well. - najzere 10:34, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I have it on the Wii. If I look for stuff near ememies when they are sleeping, and I'm sniffing around, they just seem to wake up. It could be version differences for US and UK versions, but that would be wierd because then the US version would be easier. And there's one more thing I was wondering and that's what exactly happens when you loose all your life (or lives)? The closest I've ever got to that it one and a half hearts so I don't know. --Melon247 10:43, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I doubt there is any difference in that respect between US and UK versions, but why don't you test it out a little bit to be sure? Also, will you go into the menu and look at tips and see how "paralyze" is spelled in the section talking about enemies? I'm wondering if any changes at all were made, or if the UK version has American English spellings as well. I noticed one of the dogs in Gigili Village says "paralyse" so I wanted to check.
Thanks for reminding me about dying, I keep forgetting to put that into the Gameplay page. You get a "Game Over" screen and restart from the last entrance you used in the area in which you died. Also you lose all items that were in your inventory. I can't remember right now if that includes special items and accessories or not. I have it written down somewhere. By the way, I recently found a guitar on one of those Buffalo in Rune Canyon. Pretty cool, huh? - najzere 10:57, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
A Buffalo with a guitar? Wierd. Maybe he was from some kind of band or something. All I found was a crocodile with a basket. And in Dogz and Catz they have these red things which look like crocodiles and in one of the levels you bark at them and you get some skin! Eww! Oh, sorry I got muddled up with crocodiles and allegators.
I was thinking that maybe I'd play The Dog Island sometime today to have a break from Dogz, so I'll check the paralyze or paralise thing. Recently I've been making up completely wierd names for dogs on Dogz, and one of my friends ame over and we had a dog called Ibendee, which sounds a little stupid. --Melon247 13:34, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

There was something I noticed on the diary entry pages and that is how can 'The Useless Law' be an optional mission? Unless you have a strange meaning of 'optional' in the US. Because you can't ignore that mission because you can't go out of Pupsville when it happens. As far as I know, most of the times when I've done this mission it was the only thing I could do at the time so I had to go to my house and sleep. As far as I can see the only way it can be optional is if it randomly decides that it isn't going to give you this mission, in which case it isn't actually optional. And another thing I wanted to ask is who is Shirley? Is she the dog in the cafe? Just haven't played the dog island in ages. --Melon247 14:14, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

It's optional in the sense that you don't have to do the mission. The fact that once started it must be completed is interesting though, so maybe I'll put that in a note in the diary entry. Or you can. Shirley is one of those dogs that just hangs out around town and you never have to talk to her or do a mission for her. To be specific, she's the one outside the Flower Collector's house. I've got plans to update the Characters page with a little info on all the dogs and change the layout. I'll split it into "Main characters", "Supporting Character", and "Minor characters" sections instead of by geography. By the way, did you check on the spellings in your UK version? If you get a chance, it would be pretty quick to just check your scent list (under Tools) to see if says "Colored Glass" or "Coloured Glass". - najzere 16:21, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
I'll try and remember to do that aswell as the paralise/paralyze thing. One more thing that struck me just now was that when one of those 'optional' missions pops up on the map, if it comes up as someone needing help in Gola Highlands, a.k.a. Tao, Tao won't let you look for anything he wants untill you've helped them. I think that's how it works, anyway. There's a question I (for some reason) wanted to ask you; are you just a fan of The Dog Island or do you like THE DOG aswell? I was just wondering, considering I'm a huge fan of THE DOG, and also THE CAT since it came out in the summer.Actually... do they do THE DOG in the US?
Oh yeah, I remember Shirley now! I sort of recognised the name, but couldn't think who it was. Is she supposed to be some relation of Lesley who sits outside Patricia's house?--Melon247 18:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
No idea about the relationships of any dogs to other dogs unless they're mentioned in the game. We have THE DOG in the US (it's worldwide, I'd imagine) but no, I'm just a fan of The Dog Island game. And yes, both Rode and Tao want you to finish open missions before giving you one of their own. I think this is because they count your missions to see how far along your are. - najzere 18:12, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
I just remembered something else that you might be able to check; if you have a female dog, when Amedio asks Viviana what you're going to do with the flowers, does she say 'she's going to give them to his little sister'? I noticed that a few months ago, and I guess it's something they missed. --Melon247 18:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I just noticed on the items page you have the 'South Chilly Field' and 'North Chilly Field' but they don't actually exist in the uk version. There's only the east and west chilly fields. You're making me confused again. --Melon247 14:22, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, they don't exist in the US version either, it's just a typo. =P - najzere 16:08, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

I think I found out why sniffing wakes up enemies and that is because usually you are pointing the paw icon a long way ahead of you when you stop sniffing so you run about one centemetre, and somehow that wakes them up. I don't know if this is much help to you, but I found out on Neoseeker that if you move the paw in a circle around some enemies then they fall asleep. But it only works on boars and bears, as far as I know. --Melon247 17:47, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

That probably has more to do with the fact that they fall asleep after a fairly short amount of time whether you're circling them or not. - najzere 00:31, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

a redirect problem

well I have a bit of a problem with the Combat Arms article. The subsection called Primary is piped of Primary but supposed to go to Combat Arms/Primary to keep consistency. Somebody vandalized the title Combat Arms/Primary into something, and I tried to move the page back. But instead, I accidentally created a series of redirects that I can't figure out how to get rid of. The page Combat Arms/Primary is still there, but I can't get it to link to the Combat Arms site without having a messed up series of redirects. compymasax 07:36, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Star Ocean

I'm really not sure what the best way to handle this is. Since the original version of the game was never released in English, people may search for it simply using Star Ocean (wikipedia lists it as Star Ocean (スターオーシャン, Sutā Ōshan)), but the Category listing would show First Departure anyway, and most people playing the game in English would be playing First Departure (or possibly a fan translated ROM on an SNES emulator). I actually wouldn't have touched the page at all except that I noticed the original page mentioned the possibility of the PSP port (and didn't have a cover image at all), and so was a little out of date.--Vizeroth 23:28, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

i'm on Pause

Ok I see you're working on my guide at the same time that I am... I will wait until you finish to redirect links before to continue. DJ K-Jtan 17:54, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the comment... I use to program on wikibooks (the guide was there before and they told me to but it here). I'll respect the new form you put on my page. I looks better. Thx DJ K-Jtan 18:05, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Got a question

I saw your last comment about the new section I did and I got this question : What does Appendices means ??? You see I'm a French Canadian and I'm good in English but I don't understand some "technical" word. thx DJ K-Jtan 21:36, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Appendices are supplemental material. You'd most likely see appendices in a regular book when the main body is talking about something that is reproduced in whole at the back of the book. For us, an exmple would be if you're reading the walkthrough and maybe something says to go get a certain fish. Well we could point to an appendix of all fish locations. We don't have a strict policy on that sort of thing, it's mainly up to contributor's best judgement. If you take a look at some of the guides around the site, maybe you'll get a feel for it. Like I said before though, just do whatever you think will make the most sense to the reader. By the way, I think in French it would be annexe, but I know Québécois is different, if that's your first language. - najzere 21:53, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Thank you it's more clear now :D DJ K-Jtan 22:44, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Would like to try again...

I would like to start off on a clean slate again Najzere and write pages thank you for cleaning up mace the dark age for me. I have a delima though Skizzerz doesnt not want me to create a new page until i have followed the directions. If you could reply back to me that would be nice and also please don't ban me i'am really not a vandal. Thank you. --NikoAk-47 04:55, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

You're more than welcome to edit and make as many new pages as you like. You just need to bear in mind that we have certain policies and guidelines that we do enforce. No one starts out editing at an advanced level, and even our most veteran users still make mistakes. No one expects perfect edits from you, or anyone for that matter. What we are looking for is a pattern of not heeding advice and continuous failure to meet even the minimum editing standards. Over a period of time we can get a good picture of what kind of editor you are. If a user can't follow common instructions and methods, whether due to lack of effort, conscious decision or simple inability to grasp the ideas, then this wiki just isn't an appropriate venue for that person's contributions.
That being said, I can tell from your posts and speaking with you on IRC that you're an intelligent and thoughtful user, and I still assume you are editing in good faith. I have no doubt that if you put a little effort into learning how to use the wiki and if you considered some of the helpful advice you've been given, you would be a valuable addition to our team. In the end it's up to you. Constant "bad" edits will continue to be deleted and/or reverted and eventually you will be banned. Not because we don't like you, but simply to protect the integrity of the site. Personally, I'm glad to see you're back and I hope with a little practice we won't have any more issues. - najzere 10:56, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

AutoWikiBrowser

You should seriously consider using AutoWikiBrowser with a bot account for big jobs like those cat changes. Its find and replace mechanism can make the change automatically--all you have to do is take a quick look to see if it messed something up and then click save. Thanks, I'll check it out. - najzere 19:32, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Controls Options

Hey Najzere,

I see on the Sonic Heroes/Controls page you removed my controller selector and instead put the controls into a table. What situations do we want a controller selector and which situations do we want a table? I have seen pages with both, so I'm not sure how to know which is desired on a certain page??

Thanks.
--louie55 19:39, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Currently we use a table to present all controls for guides that use more than one system. The control selector is used on individual guide pages, such as in the walkthrough. - najzere 19:41, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. That clears it up. - --louie55 02:33, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

About Resident Evil 4

Well you know that lately I've been working on the Combat Arms guide, and it's turning out pretty well. I have also played Resident Evil 4 before and have a lot of experience with it. I noticed that the Resident Evil 4 guide is pretty empty, full of stubs and non-existent pages.

A few months ago, me and a friend wrote the entire Walkthrough of Resident Evil 4 for another game strategy website called MyCheats (which I find seriously not as good as StrategyWiki). I was wondering if it is ok that I just use the same guide and copy and paste MyCheat's RE4 guide into StrategyWiki's RE4 guide. It shouldn't violate any copyright or credit thing, considering the fact that I can't "plagiarize" my own work, but people might get suspicious as to why the two are exactly the same.

compymasax 05:35, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

As long as we have permission of the author (you), then we can host the information as long as we properly attribute it (your username in the page history). As long as you didn't sell your copyright to MyCheats, I don't think you have a problem. - najzere 07:40, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

What comes next?

I'm not entirely sure what to do next on the walkthrough for The Dog Island. I've tried saying something on the talk page but no one ever answers me. It's just the diary (in game) isn't always in the same order and so I'm not entirely sure what happens next. Just remember that I've only got anywhere near the end of the game with about four of my dogs. --Melon247 09:52, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, don't worry about following the diary; it's only there for reference. I'd have to go through my walkthrough and see what comes next, since I don't remember off the top of my head. I've mainly been concentrating on all the extra pages since you said early on you wanted to write the walkthrough. I'm off to bed now, but I'll check what comes next and get back to you. - najzere 10:08, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Were those missions you said the missions which just generally come next or missions that you have to do. Also, do you have The Dog Island on your watchlist? It's just I don't think I should be having to ask on your talk page every time I want to ask about something to do with The Dog Island when I should be getting an answer on the talk page for the game. --Melon247 17:13, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I watch the guide, and I'm pretty sure I answered you there as far as what comes next. If you want to write the walkthrough then I don't understand why you are asking me what comes next. How can you write a walkthrough if you don't know what happens in the game? If you're asking whether to put optional missions in, I've said before that you only need to put what it takes to make it through the game in the walkthrough and if someone wants 100% completion they can find out specifics with all the ancillary pages. Of course this is my opinion and you're free to write whatever you like. If there is something else you're not sure about as far as what comes next, could you be more specific? Because I thought you just wanted to know what the next couple missions were to refresh your memory. - najzere 17:23, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry if you didn't really understand what I was saying. But how can you expect me to know the order of the missions off by heart if I've only got that far four times! I don't see any point in me writing a walkthrough anyway since on the actual walkthrough page you just made it sound like everyone should go to the diary entry page for help. I just had another quick look and you just said about the diary entry page like I hadn't even written a walkthrough. But I think I sort of understand you; you want The Dog Island to be your guide. I'm not trying to be mean, because that's what I thought of the Dog's Life guide when I made it. Also, I haven't played The Dog Island in ages, because since I got Catz and Dogz I just played them instead and sort of lost interest.--Melon247 17:38, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Don't get me wrong, Dog Island is everyone's guide. No matter what guide we're talking about though, we should do whatever makes it the best guide it can be. It's not my guide, but I am extremely interested in it, so it makes sense that I do a lot of work on it and have a lot of ideas about it. When all is said and done, I think all users want every guide on the site to be at Featured status, but people will contribute where they have knowledge and interest. At any rate, the walkthrough page just explains why there are two different colored links, it doesn't say not to use the walkthrough. In fact, on the Diary Entries page itself, I put that it can't be used like a walkthrough. Seriously though, you don't have to write the walkthrough. If you don't remember how things went, then you can play it again at some time or just leave it and someone else will edit it. There's no rule saying you have to finish the walkthrough because you started it. Just have fun, play the games you like and add info to SW whenever and however best suits you. No pressure! - najzere 18:11, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok, maybe I should just leave the walkthrough to you. Whenever I thnk about playing The Dog Island anyway I get one of those 'shall I do it' moments when you want to do something but you don't want to do it at the same time. Usually I end up going and playing Dogz instead or something. Infact, I abandoned the walkthrough for so long I'm surprised that someone didn't come and do the rest of it! So, if you have the rest written down, in that case you might as well put it in there, but I'm quite good at thinking up names for pages! How many more do we need?
And also, as you were so much help on Dog's Life, do you think yu could have a look through the walkthrough pages (and other pages) or Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2 and do copyediting? I'm not forcing you to, just if you want to. I've just finished writing the main walkthrough, so I'm going to try and get it to featured status. And also I might need your help with some of the info pages as in making it a bit like The Dog Island (but not too simular). --Melon247 18:58, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah sure, I can take a look through it. - najzere 19:00, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
What I seem to find really annoying is that whenever I create a page for The Dog Island you just take over (e.g. I was planning to do the characters page) so I'm not sure why I bother. But then I guess you didn't know I wanted to do it anyway, so never mind. I've just generally given up on The Dog Island. The one thing I might be good at on there is putting what breeds the characters are, considering I can work out what most dogs are. Maybe I'll add some more characters to the page then. And blimey, how far across the page can these conversations go!--Melon247 09:34, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Naj, is it actually possible to get all ten hearts in this game? All I can get is seven, because you get two with Yi Lu and then Rode will say that you'll need to find someone else to get you to a new level and the only one after that is Tao making you a Sniff Master. --Melon247 14:19, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, if you get enough scents and diary entries you get Grand Sniff Master with all ten hearts. If you look in "Status" in the menu, it should tell you how many more scents you need. If it says none, then you just need to help more dogs. - najzere 16:07, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
I was wondering, are you actually going to look through the Dogz and Catz guide pages or are you just busy at the moment? I highly doubt that I've been able to get all my spelling right and stuff. Especially now that all the time whenever I type 'Catz' it seems to turn out as CAtz. --Melon247 10:30, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I said I would. I do a lot of stuff on here, so I'll pretty much just get to it when I feel like it. - najzere 00:33, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Need Help!

I'm creating an enemies page for Catz and Dogz, and I was thnking maybe we could make a template or something like you did for the diary entries in The Dog Island. Like, having an image of the enemy and their 'sensetivity' or whatever, and a description of them. Of course, I'm talking about Catz and Dogz now, not The Dog Island. I just need some help working out what to do, like how to create a template like that and stuff. Also, what you you class as 'sensetivity' for the enemies in The Dog Island? Is it, like, how close you can get before they see you? --Melon247 17:31, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah there are a couple of different things that went into that determination:
 1. How close you can get while running before they notice you.
 2. Whether you can sneak up on them.
 3. How fast they wake up if you run by them.
Just let me know what all you want in the enemy template and I can whip something up. Then you can pick the colors and placement and whatnot. - najzere 17:38, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok, here's the stuff I think should be in the template:
 • Enemy name (obviously)
 • Image, which I'll probably create once I have a video camera
 • sensitivity
 • description of enemy
 • how much health you loose if attacked
 • locations found
That's all I can think of. I don't think we'll need to add poison stuff considering that the blue spotty snakes are the only ones who poison you.--Melon247 17:45, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I was thinking about creating a diary entry page like the one you made, and considering the games are pretty much the same, should I just use the dog island diary entry template? --Melon247 17:01, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, you can copy it, but it points to the Dog Island Diary Entry page, so you'll have to switch that part out for "Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2." - najzere 17:06, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
I created the template (Template:Petzdogzcatz2 diary) but all it comes up with on the page is is 'petzdogzcatz2 diary'. But then I don't think I've really created any templates before so I don't know all that much about how to get them to appear. Could you get it to actually appear, please? --Melon247 17:18, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I can modify the existing one if you want to use it. I can put in a parameter to flag that it's for Dogz. It could look like . Let me know how you want to do it. - najzere 17:18, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok, that was really wierd. I'm guessing there was some kind of edit conflict just now. As you can see now, I created the new template for Dogz. --Melon247 17:21, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Never mind, Rocky's fixed it, I think. --Melon247 17:25, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Heh, I guess a lot of people were just in that page. Okay, well we can take out the part for optional missions if you want. Also, you can go into the documentation page and put an actual Dogz 2 mission in if you want, just remember to change it in both the actual template and the example in the <pre> tags. - najzere 17:32, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Capitalization in headings

Hey Naj, just wondering if/what the convention is in headings (and sub-headings etc) for capitalization. First letter always and proper nouns e.g. "Dark Palace" yes, but how about others? Like in the civrev pages I've been editing I capitalize only the first letter like in Unit control and armies because that's the convention I'm used to, but I just wanna make sure before I make any more headings heh. Cheers! -- Pso 13:43, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Nevermind, all good! Melon247 cleared it up for me just then in this comment, in case anyone else is wondering. -- Pso 14:14, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

It sucks. But I will try to get on and spend more time there when I am home. Cya Procyon 21:05, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Objects

If I was going to create a scent list page for Catz and Dogz, I was wondering if I should use some of the same images as the dog island. Because most of the objects look exactly the same. For example, this image from The Dog Island is what a Mango looks like in Dogz: DogIsland mango.png. And I know because I must have found at least 50 of them while looking for special ones. There would still be some images which I would have to make myself thought. --Melon247 18:16, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Wherever you can reuse images is best, so we don't have a bunch of duplicate files floating around. I'm using duplicates even within The Dog Island, since some of the Special Items are different flowers or food and all the Signatures use the same picture, as do all the Victory Gang Badges. - najzere 18:21, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, then. But I'll probably need to play Dogz and Catz a bit more before I create the objects page.--Melon247 18:28, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Victoria Island image

Well, despite the file name indicating it's a .png, it's actually a .jpg, and I suspect the uploader just copied English labels over the Korean ones. In this case it's better to just use the korean one because it looks better.--IsaacGS 18:19, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. - najzere 18:32, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Optional Missions

Considering it seemed to be what you really wanted, I took the optional missions out of the walkthrough for The Dog Island. I copied them onto a microsoft word document should we ever need them back. That being said (why am I sounding so posh today!?), I'm back on writing the walkthrough. I might even be able to write some of the Kunka Ruins bit since I mustered up enough courage to go in there (and tried to get out as fast as I could!). And also you might want to think about archiving your talk page cos it's really long! --Melon247 11:38, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

And also I'm not sure why I though that the mangos looked the same in that game and Dogz, because they actually look a bit different! I think what I meant to say was Melons, because they definitely look the same. --Melon247 11:40, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

I wuold have thought that "Fly your hopes into the sky" wasn't an optional mission, because when you get to the end if you hadn't don it how would you know that Wilbur knows about the Star Festival? Also in Anc Road when you meet the Queen of Ancs I think that Petasi says something about how you tried to do the Star Festival with Wilbur. --Melon247 14:06, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah you're right, it's definitely not an optional mission. It's funny that I put it as optional on the Diary Entries page, but not in the list of entries on the Pupsville section of the Safe Areas page. Oh well, I'm slowly going through the Diary page fixing stuff anyway, so I'll get to it if you don't. - najzere 16:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
As soon as we have finished the walkthrough, do you think we should nominate the guide for featured status? I mean, to get more people involved with copyediting and stuff. --Melon247 16:56, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, maybe we should just change it to stage four. --Melon247 16:57, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

places template

As you might have noticed, I've been using the template from The Dog Island places pages for the places page for Dogz and Catz. I put it in my sandbox but I still can't make it look right. Can you help? (see here) I also want to try and add a bit for fruits/vegetables, flowers, special items and special fruits and vegetables. --Melon247 09:41, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Not too sure what you were aiming for, but I've tried to fix it. I'd suggest starting with the table and then customizing the insides till they look the way you want. Copy/paste will only get you so far, the really complicated stuff needs to be carefully analyzed. -- Prod (Talk) 09:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
As far as I know, it's got the right stuff in it now. I think I'm getting better at this template stuff (even if I sometimes need help still) --Melon247 14:28, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, first let's get our terminology straight; that's a table, not a template. :P Anyway, the table looks good, the only other thing I did on the Dog Island ones was to use col a lot to flatten out the fields. For instance, you have the flowers Violet and Morning Glory, and in my table I would put those side-by-side (2) instead of one on top of the other. I actually did every table on the Dog Island places pages by hand, since the information was always changing (if it was always the same, then we could use a template). You should take a look at the table guide and the advanced table guide and see if you can make sense of them. The only thing in the tables you may need that you don't already know might be the colspan and rowspan properties, which extend table cells across columns and rows, respectively, as you can see here.
You should be familiar with the col template from editing the Table of Contents on various pages, and you can use it within various cells in a table to spread the information out so the row heights are more even. I wouldn't use more than 3 in a cell though, as it will squish the content together on lower resolution monitors. Even on larger res screens, three columns may look awkward if any of the items are very long. One last thing you might run into is, in tables, if you want to use * to create lists, you have to start them on the next line from the | field separator. In other words, you do this:
{|
|
* list item
Instead of putting them on the same line. If you're using col, you can put the begin section on the same line as the |. Hopefully that helps, and of course just let me know if you need anything else. I'll try and keep an eye on the Dogz 2 page and see how it's looking. Have fun! - najzere 16:25, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. There's something to do with the Dogz 2 guide that I'm not sure about. Should I add 'Pear' to the list of special items for Lappy Lake? Because you have to find one so Ione can make a Pear Tart for Sai but it doesn't have a special smell. The same for Cherries/Apples in Whisker Woods. --Melon247 16:53, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
In Dog Island if you go into the Scent List, it organizes all scents by type, and that's what I used. If Dogz 2 doesn't have something similar, just use your best judgement. I guess you should think of where a reader would expect to find it. - najzere 16:55, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Game selector

I've managed to make the main template by copying stuff from the control selector pages but now I've got to make a thing like the control bits and I'm getting very confused. I can't work out what I'm supposed to be changing now, so could you help me? See game selector to see what I've done so far and some of that is probably wrong aswell. --Melon247 17:33, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Melon, good work so far. In fact, if you were to use control in place of game it would work! However, you don't want to do this because then it gets confusing. There are two options as I see it. We can create game to be exactly like control or we can rename control to be selector and then rename all the uses of control as selector in guide pages. I think the second option is better, but before I go doing anything, I would like a second opinion.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 17:38, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

After messing around a bit with Version Selector (because I didn't want to screw up someone else's work trying to figure out what's going on), I think it comes down to some pieces hidden somewhere else. Maybe it would be possible to simply cast another template as a Control template and have it work, but I haven't messed with it enough yet to find out.--~Vizeroth (contribs)~-- 19:29, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Version isn't working because you need to keep all those "controlOpt" things the same way they were. Like I said, Melon's template works if you use control instead of game. Which is why I think we should just have a single template called selector encompassing control, game, version or whatever.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 20:06, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I see, so it's the controlOpt class that needs to be there to get things working. I'd have to agree with just deciding on a name for a general-use template, and possibly adding an option to change the image displayed (maybe among a small number of choices) to be more appropriate to the use.--~Vizeroth (contribs)~-- 20:16, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

After talking with Prod about the game selector, we came up with some alternatives that don't involve using more JavaScript. Of all the alternatives we discussed, we both liked the reflist idea the best, and I've used it on The Disaster page so you can see how it looks. I think it will get pretty tedious to the writer and the reader to constantly have each item name with (Dogz) or (Catz) after it, and the sidebars will clutter up the guide if you used them every time. I like the reflist, as it's non-intrusive while reading the walkthrough, and you can find all version differences in one place at the end if you don't click the references as you go. Hope that works for you as well! - najzere 00:25, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I think that's the best way so far. I say we stick to that. On the Optional Missions page, do we still leave the 'Nature Fishing' and 'Catching Bugs Galore' or whatever it's called to say 'Catz only' and 'Dogz only'? I don't think there's a way of solving that unless you can put referances in the headers. --Melon247 09:52, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
No on specific pages like that one and the Items page where the differences are part of the structure of the page, it's fine how you have them. The reflist is more for sections with lots of prose so the flow of narrative isn't broken. - najzere 15:04, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Kunka Creepy

Ok, I've done the main part of the walkthrough. But I've only every been through the first part of the Kunka Ruins twice and found the Legendary Flower, and after that I've only done Anc Road once! Although I can vaguely remember what to do, I think I'd freak myself out too much if I try to write about the Kunka Ruins. So, that written up version of yours would come in handy right about now. Just include what directions to go and stuff so it fits in with the rest of the walkthrough. --Melon247 14:34, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

And by the way I've added the bug pages in the Magic Encyclopedia to the Bug page for the dogz and catz guide by using the images from the dog island. Is there a way of getting the name of the insect to come up when you hover the mouse over it without using an image map? --Melon247 17:34, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Never mind, I used the image maps from The Dog Island (simply by using copy/paste and correcting the links) so now they'll link to the table below. --Melon247 10:11, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

What does adding safe or wild actually do to the diary entries? Nothing shows up on the page. --Melon247 17:00, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

It changes the location link between either the Safe Areas page or the Wild Areas page. If the location is Green Meadows, for instance, but you didn't put the area in, it would try and create a link to Areas#Green Meadows. I had to add that field after we split the The Dog Island/Places page up. - najzere 17:17, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
oh, now I see. Back to the main question; are you going to do the Kunka Ruins/Anc Road/whatever-else-is-bundled-into-there bit? (and if you are do you want me to edit it a bit afterwards so it's in a simular style to the rest of the walkthrough?) --Melon247 17:26, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I'll do it at some point. I was on vacation and then I got sick, so I've been away for a while. I'll have to do it when I get home, because I don't have my walkthrough here at work. - najzere 17:30, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Stars

I was thinking of more along the lines of so that it's number of coloured stars, total stars, colour. -- Prod (Talk) 07:12, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

That sounds good too. I'm in IRC right now if you want to discuss. - najzere 07:15, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Template:Wind Slayer/Skill Info

Why are you changing the template? --Glericus 08:49, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

As you can see, I moved the skills into one page, so SUBPAGENAME would no longer work. Lots of times there isn't enough content one page, so we combine them. That way someone who wants info on the Mage skills can just look at the page and not have to go from link to link just to see another spell. - najzere 08:52, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

AlphaDream

Ack, I hate it when that happens. I'll fix it now. It's sometimes hard to tell if something already exists when the motivation was to fix some red links. Thanks so much for catching that. <3 Zaiqukaj 08:07, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

No prob, it's lucky that I happened to be in that page recently. Kind of a weird coincidence. o_O - najzere 08:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm just happy to know someone has my back if I slip up and make any silly mistakes. Especially while trying to fill in some of those needed company red links. There is still a ton of them. --Zaiqukaj 08:16, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, no kidding. I haven't made any in a while; I've gotta get back into it. You, me and Vizeroth are making a dent! - najzere 08:17, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
We will get through them some day. This has also been a good way for me to find missing redirects or guides that could use a good cleanup/update scan. --Zaiqukaj 08:59, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Infobox question

Some of your recent cleanup has proven that you may be able to answer this question that has been bothering me. What categories do we no longer need to include at the bottom of a guide's main page? I know that some are now instantly already considered there code-wise if they are in the infobox (like series and dates) but I haven't been able to figure out which ones count and which ones don't. Are there any other categories that are automatically included down there are already plugged into the infobox? --Zaiqukaj 08:59, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

The rd template adds date categories, and the series parameter adds the series category. Other than that, you have to put all the other ones in by hand. Some exceptions are if you use sys or co templates. Those add the system and company categories, respectively. The way I do it is put in categories for every infobox parameter that I put a link in, unless I used the sys or co templates (except for preceded by and followed by). - najzere 09:13, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

The Indented Page

I know this only happened on my computer but I think I found out what causes it. When the disambig is above the infobox, the page looks fine, like in Dogz and Catz. But when the disambig is alongside the infobox, like in Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2, the whole page gets indented. And that also makes the gallery look wierd because it goes over the blue line at the side of the page. Just to know; could we put the disambig back above the infobox? --Melon247 20:15, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, it wasn't the game disambig that was breaking it, it was the colon (:) that the template put in. For some reason, in Internet Explorer it doesn't like any colons on the line directly after the infobox. Probably has something to do with floating an element right over an indented line. Anyway, it's fixed now (at least in my IE), so if you see that anywhere else, just put a blank line after the infobox. - najzere 21:13, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok, thanks, it looks much better now. I tried putting the space underneath the disambig but not above so and that didn't make any difference, but now I know what's causing it. --Melon247 09:42, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

AlphabetTOC Question

Hi,

Got a simple question, maybe you could help me. In my guide of Voyage Century in the page Cities Goods you put an Alphabet Table of Content (thank =D). Here is my question. For some letters I don't have any goods to put in... do I need to put the letter too or not??? If not is there a way to put the letter in Red or other way that users can't click on them ???.

Thank you so much for all the help. DJ K-Jtan 20:19, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Funny you should ask, as I've been thinking about that myself. No, you don't need to put a blank heading for letters you're not using, they will show up blue in the toc whether they're there or not. I would like the toc to show black letters for the ones that don't have headings, but I haven't been able to think of a good way to do it using the existing template tools. For now, clicking on one of those letters just does nothing, but at least you have a nice condensed table of contents. - najzereT 00:13, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. I appreciate your help. DJ K-Jtan 04:31, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

People are more likely to search for their game than use a series link to find it. The actual names of the games should be redirects so people can just type them in and get to the page they are looking for (except for the names which match multiple games). -- Prod (Talk) 19:49, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Pokemon GSC

Sorry for putting the Cianwood City text in a table, I formatted it as the Goldenrod City page was formatted. Should that be changed as well?

Yeah, I fixed that one as well. It looks like I'm going to have to go through and take a look at these pages. Thanks for bringing it to my attention and thanks for working on the Pokémon guide. - najzereT 06:30, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

No problem, I've been going through Silver correcting some small errors (and I plan to go through Crystal soon as well because there are a few significant differences), and as I go through the guide I'll get rid of tabular things like that and try and fix it (after I brush up on my wiki formatting rules). Where do I request for a page to be deleted? Cianwood Gym should be deleted, seeing as the information fits more chronologically on the Cianwood City page, and I've changed the footernav bars on the previous and succeeding pages to link to each other, and gotten rid of the link from the table of contents, but it's not deleted, and the 'What links to here' page still says the other pages link to it. The image map thing

By putting an image map in my signature the 'Petz' image goes on a seperate line and so if you use it on a talk page it makes it look wierd. So I undid your edit with the image map. (talk · contribs · comp) 11:22, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, it's probably an Internet Explorer thing - I only checked it in Firefox. Yeah, you can use the plainlinks class like the other "dog's life expert" images I put in your sandbox. - najzereT 16:02, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Oops... sorry, I didn't realise that the signature would change. I thought it would be like when you had the signatures before. Anyway, so clear peoples talk pages of a massive image, I'll resize and re-upload the image. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 16:42, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
A couple points on your signature, if I may. I'd suggest redoing your name image to read directly horizontal as opposed to slanted, as you can retain the same font size while reducing the height of the image, which will improve line spacing. Also, the edges are quite jagged, and could definitely be improved upon. If you need help with that aspect, I can probably get it a bit more anti-aliased. Secondly, you should upload the Dog's Life Expert image onto SW if you're going to use it, as I'm not sure how long Imageshack will host it. - najzereT 18:21, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
I gave up on the whole image-name thing. I think my sig looks better multicoloured with an image of Hammy. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 19:48, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

GiMP

Zillion opa-opa transparent.png
Zillion opa-opa big.png

Hey Naj... Yeah, I'm been thinking about trying to write a Script-Fu script that would do that. I had a little success writing a minor sprite resize script (scale 200% with no interpolation, and scale 200% with linear interpolation), but the 2D to 3D-ish steps are a little more complicated, and I haven't perfected my Script-Fu writing abilities to accomplish that yet. Have you messed with Script-Fu? And if so, would you like to try to collaborate on it? Procyon 21:55, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, definitely. I haven't made any myself, but it's just Scheme, so I can give it a shot. Is the minor tutorial from your talk page archives and the link therein enough to get me started on the technical stuff? I imagine I'll run into things beyond my understanding, so maybe I'll go get Gtalk so I can give you a holler when that happens. - najzereT 22:11, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, I went through your instructions by hand and came up with the above image, using the one on top. It's not quite right, I don't think. You can't really see the 3D edge and the 50% opacity black→white gradient on top makes the image too dull. I had to do some stuff different, which I assumed were just differences between GiMP 2.2 and 2.6. Also the border looks not so good. Maybe it should be thicker? Or use more feathering? These images just look much brighter and thicker.
Okay, so besides just trying it out, I also went through and pulled out the GiMP functions I think we're going to need. I have the full list (20 functions) if you want to check them over and maybe use better ones you know of. I started the script and I've set it up to use an existing image, with just SF-IMAGE and SF-DRAWABLE as parameters. I thought we'd start out simple and do the cropping and background transparency ourselves before calling the script. It also requires you to set the foreground color (the one we'll darken and use for the border) beforehand. To handle moving the images around, I was thinking of resizing the canvas a bit and centering the image so it doesn't go off the canvas. Is that necessary? I'm not really sure what happens when a layer is off the canvas. We could use fit image to layer, but by building up our own wiggle room, we'll know how much to take off at the end to get it back to the original cropping.
That's it for now, I'll see about starting to add in the functions tomorrow, and maybe you can give me some tips on how to get the image better-looking in the meantime. - najzereT 10:37, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm looking at your latest 3D sprites for Eggerland, which look awesome, and I think I see some differences. I'm only showing one pixel of the light layer and seven pixels of the dark layer, which would explain why mine is so thin. Also, it looks like you're applying a blur (Gaussian?) on the border layer and making it thicker, which looks a lot better. I think I can replicate those changes, but what's got me stumped is how clean and clear the gradient is. I applied mine by doing a black to white gradient at 50% opacity and merging it down onto the image. In your instructions you said to do a "grain merge" but I can't find merge settings anywhere. Is this where my problem lies? Also I think the black on black border I'm using isn't helping. :/ - najzereT 19:34, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I finally got around to doing the script. I uploaded here actually, in case we want to start a script repository for SW-centric scripts. Here's the file. I added in a little more functionality than I thought we'd start with, but really, we'll probably want to add even more. A few things I think we'll probably want is to define the gradient opacity and start and stop points, whether to pad the image with some clear space (it doesn't do so well with images that are cropped right to the edge of the sprite), and control over the brightness/darkness of the two lower layers. Let me know what you think and if we should add any more to it. It already produces better looking images than that first one I made. :P - najzereT 08:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Phoenix Wright

I believe the headings here were to keep consistency with the other pages in the guide (which mode would be used). As for the large use of bolding, it seems that it was to help someone see the important selection parts (I don't have the game so correct me if I'm wrong). We have to be careful to keep the guide to some level of cleanliness, but give guide writers some styling flexibility within the guide. -- Prod (Talk) 00:57, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

In the case of the diff, I added to the introduction that the whole day was in that mode; I think the way we cascade headings is pretty intuitive and doesn't detract from the guide when one page doesn't have two modes. As for the bolding, the guide makes heavy use of sub-headings, which themselves are hard to distinguish from normal bolded text, which is why I was unbolding. The bolded items were items in the Court Record and actions, which don't help scanners, since items are referenced multiple times and actions all the time. The headings are what will help people find what they're looking for, so I'm attempting to make them stand out a bit more. My intention is to cleanup the rest of the guide then nominate it for featured status, as I believe it's very thorough, has a lot of pictures and is fairly popular.- najzereT 04:46, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

If something has been added and removed, the two will be added together with either a + or - remaining (or 0 if they're equal). - najzereT 20:04, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks dude, for cleaning up the newbie part. --Wikiman625 Jolly Roger.gif 13:13, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Tilt-A-Kart Fixed

I thought it did seem a little odd to put the text on there in the first place. Anyway, good suggestion. I removed the text. That was there just for the credit, but the image is already credited to me anyway.

Great! Thanks a lot. I think I saw some other images of yours that also contained credits in the image, so hopefully you can fix those too. Thanks for making those images, by the way. I've made a few myself, so I know it's hard work! - najzereT 19:24, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Lacking in categories

This was a complete surprise today (and the odd image made me lol). I love the mention of that section on the just kidding statement. Wanted pages has got to be one of our pages I avoid the most. Pushing more stage 0's to stage 1's and getting the wikification under control would be my main priorities since I can do some of those without any experience with those specific games. --Zaiqukaj 13:57, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, any cleanup is good cleanup. :D Just wanted to say thanks though, since wanted categories is a little mission of mine, and when I started there were over 800 of 'em. Keep up the good work! - najzereT 14:57, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Dissidia Summons

If you want to put all the info on one page, then do so. However, I thought that all of the information combined would make the page very slow to load up. And there's a reason I created a seperate page for the summons, precicely because there are so many of them. Jammi568

Well there's just simply not enough information for them to have their own pages, but the larger problem is trying to put all of them on the ToC. I don't think 40 summons is all that big really, after seeing some of the lists we have, but if you can group them in any way, such as by type or character, then we have more options. If it's by type, we can make separate pages for each type (as long it's not more than say 4 or 5). If they go with certain characters, then they can go on the character's page. The current list you have, converted to on-page links, would make it pretty easy to navigate if they all go on one page. - najzereT 23:35, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Paper Mario

I understand your point concerning Luigi and Kolorado but the other characters I removed had little to no relevance to the plot of the game. Characters like Chet Rippo, Chanterelle, Herringway, Fice T., the Club 64 Bartender (I could go on and on) are similarly unimportant in the grand scheme but are not mentioned on the characters page. In addition, all of their summaries were only 2 or 3 sentences at best and had little relevant information to the game. I will keep Luigi and Kolorado and re-write their summaries to be more descriptive and informative but the others are going.

All right, sounds good. Thanks for the quick response. - najzereT 01:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

combat arms page moves

Yes, thanks for moving the shotguns to their own category. I was actually aware that shotguns weren't secondary weapons anymore a long time ago, but I kept forgetting to move it. compymasax 05:38, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for responding. It wasn't me that moved them, which is why I wanted to verify that it was okay. Vizeroth and Prod have cleaned up the move, so it seems to fit the guide now. - najzereT 07:16, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Ghost Squad images.

I got all those images. You can find it on "Recent Changes". I wish I know how to put the images up. If you know how, you can put it on my talk page. Besides the guide is nearly finished. If you don't mind, I don't know the name of a picture file of Wii Remote and Nunchuk like in "Super Smash Bros Brawl" and the Wii Zapper that you see at the start when you scroll at the top half of the page and maybe it will help with the Control page but that's up to you. Thanks. Johnnyauau2000 16:01, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

 • By the way, I didn't know the images I got is watermarked so sorry about that. I just want an idea about branching storylines. That's all. Johnnyauau2000 16:08, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
 • It make sense. So should I rule out screenshots because all screenshots are copyright and cannot be used? I don't mind because I'm terrible with images and it does make my life harder. I guess besides the main article page which uses the boxart, the rest can be all text but that's just me. Johnnyauau2000 06:44, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Paragraphs

Thanks for the advice. I didnt know how to paragraph properly in the first place. =P. --Jezza 23:24, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Import

I always import for pages that are up for deletion. If the page is deleted, there's nothing left to link to. I also put a link to the original location on wikipedia just to be sure. For regular pages, if there's minimal risk to being deleted, I don't think it really matters. -- Prod (Talk) 16:48, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
