Metroid Wiki Skin Issues

Hey, this is embyr_75. Not sure who's where and who's doing what (the admin Skype chat seems to be dead), but Metroid Wiki just got a new skin, and there's a few problems cropping up, some of which are MediaWiki related I believe. I've started a discussion here. Please drop by when you can. Also, the other admins are MIA at the moment. 63.226.192.91 23:30, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Pretty funny you'd ask for skin help here, considering how poorly some of our skins are maintained. — Najzere · Talk 02:17, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Heh, I'm not touching BlueCloud. It took more work maintaining that thing than working on the rest of the site. It's probably time to disable that now that it doesn't work at all... -- Prod (Talk) 04:06, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Any plans for the nav_toc class, which does nothing in Dolphin and Vector and doesn't display in Monobook? — Najzere · Talk 06:57, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Probably time to kill it... -- Prod (Talk) 00:13, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

More issues, this time from the 1.19 update I believe. I posted another blurb about it in the Discussion Center. Drop by when you get the chance, all our coders seem to have been scattered throughout the Interdimensional Void. 63.226.192.91 19:11, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

I left you a Message regarding the Upload Wizard. Please take a look when you get a chance. Thanks! -- embyr_75 18:26, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi, Metroid Wiki again. Do you get poked every time I edit your MW talk page? If so I'll stop stalking you here lol. Anyway. It's about the asterisk fix we discussed once. You'll find it here. Thanks! -- embyr_75 02:44, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes, he will be notified. He hasn't been on much lately. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:54, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Re: Weird replacements

Ah, this is the result of a workaround on my part (AWB only supports highlighting one non-replacement keyword at a time). These changes were meant to act as highlighting only so were reverted prior to saving the page but apparently I made some mistakes along the way. I'll do this in a different way in future to prevent this happening again. Thanks for letting me know. :) Garrett (talk) 10:53, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Signup Issues?

For some reason, I cannot create an account here. It just says "Login error: Incorrect or missing confirmation code.", even though I did everything right. Is there an explenation? UxieLover1994 19:15, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Control selector bug

Hi Prod, could you look into this for me? Over at http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dragon_Warrior_III/Enemies we're trying to use {{control}} to select different images, but when we have two images, the second one will overlap (e.g. look halfway down the page for Kandar; compare NES to SNES versions). It looks like, since we probably do not want to replace display:none with visibility:hidden (to account for the larger image size), that we either need an alternate control selector template for pages like this, or to scrap using floated images and make a layout out completely out of tables (put the stats table inside of a larger, 2 celled table (with no borders) with the left cell containing the image and the right cell containing the stats table). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:05, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

The only image visible on the default selection (NES) at the moment is Kandar (half way down). If you switch to SNES you will see all of them. I'm going to play around with visibility:hidden before switching to displaying all of the images at once. Also, the discussions were fairly limited to simply presentation; people were bickering about the name of the template, whereas all we care about is functionality/accuracy of the display mechanism. I appreciate your input. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 05:17, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Bot request

Ugh, I should know better than to try and upload stuff when I'm tired. I screwed some stuff up that I wonder if you could easily bot-fix. I uploaded a bunch of images with [[Category:Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode image]] when it should be [[Category:Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode images]] (plural). Furthermore there are 13 images that I started with "Golgo 13 TSP" when it should be "Golgo 13 TSE". Let me know if you can bot that or if I should start fixing it. Procyon 03:23, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

MSX2

I haven't taken the time to work out how the compatibility is split between MSX models since there's also an MSX2+ and MSX TurboR and I'm not exactly sure where they fit in. Right now MSX and MSX2 have been categorised together but I'm using MSX2 in the infobox and {{sys}} so things can be migrated smoothly. I'll be sorting this out properly in the near future. :) Garrett (talk) 05:24, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

Commodore 16/Plus 4 rename

Writing the system names with a slash is frequently used by the games themselves, which is also how we ended up with Commodore 64/128. I'm open to other options, of course, but that's the explanation behind the current name. :) Garrett (talk) 02:03, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

So I'm just working on various cleanup. Found this discussion, again. Could you look it over and deem it resolved or not, then delete {{Controlstable}}? No update since 2010. NeoSeeker link needs game parameter or disable option

So on a game like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure that shares the same name as several other games, the link to NeoSeeker may mess up. In this case, we are referring to a Super Famicom game that has nothing to do with the PlayStation or Dreamcast games of the same name that are linked in the infobox. We need an option to adjust the NeoSeeker link. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:23, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Technically, it's on their end to correct those mistakes. However, I'm not sure if we have established a means to communicate with them and alert them to any mistakes that we discover. Procyon 03:31, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Updating the registration page

Can you edit the registration page's content? The text above the image captcha refers to the old captcha (something about a sum and entering it into a box) and it doesn't apply anymore. Also, a warning about IE incompatibility should be added to the page because of all of the people who still use that browser and have trouble with our site because of it. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:49, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

This actually comes as part of the extension, which people have asked to have fixed :P. I'm testing another version of it that I'll have live soon that hopefully fixes some of these issues. -- Prod (talk) 04:25, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

MAME stubs and bots

Hey Prod, I'm replying to a thread that died out in early October. Thanks for volunteering to handle botted category/image renaming, since I don't have a bot of my own.

As for MAME stubs, or any stub for that matter, I am skeptical that using a bot to create them all would be useful. One of the really useful features of the site is the guide completion project. Using the list we can see which have been created and which have been not. Most of those created have thoroughly filled out main pages. If we were to use a bot to create stubs for all of the games that we want at StrategyWiki we would end up with 100% present, but 90% of them would look like garbage to viewers (most of which do not know how to begin editing under our standards). I think slow and steady is more effective, although it does create a bit more work that the bot could do. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:41, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

What data would you pull out of the emulator to populate a page with? I can see a bot being able to roughly fill out an infobox and intro by copying Wikipedia pages, but I can't image how you would get any data out of the MAME software. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:56, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Update Windows Logo (small)

Can you help me update the Windows icon from the current one (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/File:Windows_icon.png) to this (http://i48.tinypic.com/2nb98b5.png)? It's the new Windows logo that Microsoft introduced with the launch of Windows 8. Thanks! :) --Maplefreak26 (talk) 06:19, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

I don't think so. I took the picture from Windows' Wikipedia page and cropped it so that only the icon was available and not the text. --Maplefreak26 (talk) 06:30, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Template redirects and transclusion efficiency

Hi Prod. Recently a user created {{Wii U}}. Our typical naming scheme for button templates is all lower case, like {{snes}}. I created a redirect for {{wii u}} to {{Wii U}}. If we expect ourselves and others to use {{wii u}}, will the performance drop be significant enough to where we should move {{Wii U}} to {{wii u}} and delete {{Wii U}}? Even if it isn't "significant" it will still be better, right? Since a redirect requires an additional page to be called and a few lines of code to be run (and potentially an additional connection to the server). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:16, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Mega Man X series: why the spaces after the X's?

Because "Mega Man X" is the name of the series, then comes the episode number. For example, we write "Final Fantasy 2" or "Dragon Quest 4", not "Final Fantasy2" nor "Dragon Quest4". At least, that was my logic. --Abacos (talk) 11:05, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Nothing of importance, I think. Summarizing, in the category page Category:Mega Man X I wrote the titles as "Mega Man X 2", "Mega Man X 3" etc., but you changed them to "Mega Man X2", "Mega Man X3", with the comment in the title here (why the spaces after the X's?). We're just dealing with empty spaces here :-D
As a support to my spelling, I can quote the intro of one of the games that reads "Mega Man X episode 5", instead of "Mega Man episode X5". I think the intro of "Mega Man X 2" shows something similar, too.
I know in the web there's seldom the space between "Mega Man X" and the number, but I also know that English-speakers are seldom taught grammar at school (I don't mean any harm, this is a fact: one of the reasons of the international diffusion of English language is indeed the very simple grammar). --Abacos (talk) 12:47, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
That's fine with me then. Cheers :-) --Abacos (talk) 15:14, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Also note, Abacos, that X2 and X3 were typeset on their box artwork as exponents (X squared and X cubed, respectively). It looks like the Japanese name, e.g. the original name, for X2 was ロックマンX2 (Rock Man X2), which is obviously where the grammatically incorrect syntax came from. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:25, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Monster Hunter Tri

I'll be working on it later in the year. Can you update this main page for me? Don't know if you're the right person for the job but it's something I'll be doing once I've done with Call of Duty Black Ops walkthrough. I might not get the message so message me if you're done or perhaps I might be forced to find the box art and write down from Wikipedia to get the front page working. Sorry to interrupt.

Neoseeker error

Hi Prod. In the main page of Final Fantasy III NES/DS all the Neoseeker Related Pages are related to the SNES Final Fantasy VI (FF3 in the USA) instead. I opened the page for edit, but could not fix that. --Abacos (talk) 11:28, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

The data is pulled from an external database maintained by neoseeker. I'll ask them to update it. Thanks for the report! -- Prod (talk) 16:42, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Should be fixed now. -- Prod (talk) 01:05, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Can you help by running some bot replacement searches for us?

MapleStory could use an overhaul to adhere to our page naming policy. We never got around to it because of the vast amount of content and links. Basically, the monster pages, town pages, and class pages all have incorrect hierarchies in their names. I would like to split this up into a few smaller projects. So let's start with the smallest: monster pages. If I were to rename them all and give you a list of link replacements to search for could you run it through with your bot? Thanks. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:11, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

For sure, just let me know what you need. If you can plan out the whole guide of renames at once that would be good too. What kind of changes are you thinking of though? I though only the character guides were misnamed before. --Prod (talk) 04:03, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

MW oddities

Hello! this. That is all. 66.233.31.141 21:15, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi there! Me again. Our current featured picture isn't generating a thumbnail anymore. Take a look at the Discussion Center when you get the chance, if you pleeeaseee! 66.233.31.141 19:05, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Seeing that you are familiar with this type of issue, please take a look at Ghostbusters/Console differences and File:Ghostbusters 2600 ghost.gif. Can the thumbnails be fixed to display properly? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:17, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
This looks like a different issue. The one on Metroid Wiki was due to gigantic images taking a lot of memory for the conversion program to run. It looks like this is caused by it generating improper gif files, which are currently cached in our CDN. I've cleared the thumbnails on the server, and now just need to wait for the cache to expire so it generates a new thumbnail. -- Prod (talk) 00:11, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Oddly, the file I linked had its thumbnail fixed, but none of the other images on the site did. Also, this one is broken, too: File:Chrono Trigger Zeal boss.gif. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:34, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Broken .gif files and thumbnails

I am finding more and more broken gifs around the site. Most notably is this file: File:Titanic Mystery FDS title.gif. Since it is animated, it has a different error than the other thumbnails (e.g. File:Chrono Trigger Zeal boss.gif). Also, since it is animated, I cannot solve the problem by re-uploading as .png. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 02:11, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

It looks like even new gif files are broken now. See File:Lucky & Wild title screen.gif. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:06, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
MediaWiki seems to have changed the way they handle things like thumbnailing in the last few versions and it appears to be causing lots of people issues. They suggest raising the amount of memory allocated to each process, though when I tried that it killed apache. I'm looking into some other options, but I don't think I have a quick fix for this one. -- Prod (talk) 01:43, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
It appears that .jpg can be affected, too. I uploaded a large file, File:FFX remaster collectors edition advertisment.jpg, and it won't appear. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 23:17, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
User:Notmyhandle, it seems to be loading for me. Could have just been a delay thing. I'm actually surprised it's only impacting gifs, since svg is the only image type that uses a different handler. -- Prod (talk) 00:37, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Interestingly, it is not working for me on a completely different computer. However, I narrowed it down to Chrome (logged in or out and incognito mode doesn't make a difference). It shows up in Firefox for me. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 06:10, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
I'm using Firefox, but i can't view it. It just show me white, same with the Thumbnail picture. Usually if a gif is broken, then it show a red link (Thumbnail cannot be shown properly or something like that). If i click on "Original File" it load fine for me. Paco (talk) 06:51, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Upload

I'm wondering, what happened to the Multiple Upload form? --PirateIzzy (talk) 23:43, 23 September 2013 (UTC) I noticed the new Upload Wizard, and frankly, I prefer the single upload form, but that's my opinion, I don't know about others. It takes a much longer time because of filling out copyright info, and filling out categories for each individual image uploaded. Oh well, c'est la vie. --PirateIzzy (talk) 02:27, 30 September 2013 (UTC) The one problem I have with the UW now, it doesn't let me replace currently existing images, such as if I want to upload a new version of so-and-so. Is it possible to fix that? --PirateIzzy (talk) 03:30, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Game renaming

Hi Prod, were you doing all of those edits by hand for Mario & Luigi games? The LEGO games need all references to Lego changed to LEGO, like Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues. I will continue to work on this, but if you have a bot that can help I'd appreciate it. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:51, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Anything done by User:Prod was manual, User:Auto Prod Bot was automatic. Some of the repointing stuff I could have done with a script, but it was only about 30 pages so I didn't feel like looking into it. Now that I think about it, Special:ReplaceText may be a useful tool, just be careful :). -- Prod (talk) 19:25, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
I use Chrome's Search and Replace extension to do in-browser text replacement. You can do multiple passes in the same edit. It is not the best tool, need's regex support, but helps. Thanks anyways. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:40, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Infobox changes

I don't understand why you reverted my changes. The Japanese title I won't push, that is not a big deal. But double-series games - this is a valid use of case-tolerant coding. It does not hurt to enable us to display things better. Right now when we have two series games we have to arbitrarily pick one that is dominant. E.g. Pokémon Conquest is a combination of two series, though the English regionalization dissolved the reference to Nobunaga's Ambition for marketing purposes. Can we please re-add that functionality? If you don't have it, the infobox is incorrect, and you can't just add a second series to that parameter because it adds a category of whatever you pass to series=. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:36, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

I thought the only usage was the Taz/Asterix guide. Apart from Pokémon Conquest and Donkey Kong, are there any other games you've found that would fall under this. I feel that when there's so few games that have this "issue", there has to be a cleaner way of dealing with it. I would say the series parameter should just apply to the primary series, and anything else can be mentioned in the text and linked with the series navs. -- Prod (talk) 19:43, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

01/29/2014 maintenance

I couldn't tell who locked the database (you or Procyon since the message only said "maintenance"), but the new upgrades to MediaWiki(?) and/or the notifications extension is pretty sweet! I like how when you click "Save page" a pop up notification appears on the next page indicating that it actually saved. Note that images like File:Titanic Mystery FDS title.gif still have broken thumbnails. This is a significant issue for main pages that have their primary box art as a .gif. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:38, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Ah, it was you (given the dolphin to whale.css move in recent changes). So, I see a broken file that needs to be created (unless we want to link something differently). See http://strategywiki.org/w/index.php?title=Help:Logging_in&action=edit&redlink=1 (this is the "Help with logging in link") as seen when you are logged out (just above the register button). The page needs to be created. Please start the page if you want it to be permanent and I will help with the content. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:49, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Maybe linked to the GIF image error, when uploading new versions of images, the new versions do not take precedence. I have tested this between browsers that don't have any cache of SW whatsoever. The only fix is to delete the file, and re-upload with a DIFFERENT name (re-uploading over the same name will load the still cached, original, bad image). This has been around for a couple of months. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 01:47, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for working on this! I think the thumbnail issue is the biggest problem. Last night I uploaded two new transparent versions of images and they still haven't gotten new thumbnails. I suspect if you fix it, both the transparency and .gif thumbnail problems will be fixed at the same time. Good luck! --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:24, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Rollback?

I'm guessing there was a rollback, since most of my work in the Commerci quest section is gone. If so, that really sucks, since it was hard to gather all that info, and now I'll have to do it again >.< --PirateIzzy (talk) 01:56, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

The main one I'm concerned with is this. Not sure if it could still possibly be done, since I recently edited it today. If you can get it, I'd appreciate it.

  • On the chance that you do, I saved the current changes in a text document, so I could add at a later time. Thanks.

So that's not something we can supersede locally? The rationale is poor. We don't care if people post "blacklisted videos" because we will just remove them if they are not pertinent here. Though since they are currently blocked, we can't tell if spammers are trying to post them. The main reason to unblock is due to the share option and internet noobs not knowing to change the URL. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 05:37, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Server load related to images

Whether logged in or out, pages with images load extremely slow (~1 minute). However, if I open up several tabs, they will all finish loading at the same time. Pages with only text (e.g. recent changes and talk pages), load quickly. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:34, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Notmyhandle (talk · contribs), do you have some example pages? Does it load faster the second time? -- Prod (talk) 23:20, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
I was going through recent changes this morning, just patrolling Namcorules' redirects for stuff like Punch-Out!!. However, the issue is resolved now. I was just mentioning it in-case you were online at the time and could check the server's performance (e.g. Linux top command as well as apache domlogs). Isolated performance is usually due to a runaway service/memory leak or a botnet hogging bandwidth/apache sessions. Though, I'm speaking from my server experience. Not sure what SW is running on. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 00:34, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
I'd actually be surprised if it was images causing issues, since images are all hosted through a CDN. It could be that their server near you was having problems (CloudFlarewas a target of some big DDOS's recently). It could be that some javascript file was having trouble loading (we have a fair number of those from analytics and ads). -- Prod (talk) 03:58, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Linking oddities

We have been discussing this in relation to images on RAP's talk page. He came up with a solution, which also applies to the issue I ran into. Basically, if you make an edit and a page links to that edited page, or template, the change does not appear. However, if you edit the page that is not transcluding the content correctly, it will then purge and appear correctly. This worked for me when I updated the collab of the month. The collab page and main page do not load the content (collab page showed a red link until I made an edit). Main page showed that the page did not exist until I edited it. Even weirder, the content appears in the preview of the edit, but if you go back to the page it will not appear. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 01:06, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

The main page has some special level of caching that is really hard to clear. The best way to update it is to edit the main page, add a line break at the end, and then save it. It should count as a null edit and shouldn't show up in the history. -- Prod (talk) 05:08, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Super Mario Wiki interwiki link

Hi Prod, can you set up an interwiki link for our NIWA partner, Super Mario Wiki, so that {{mario wiki}} works? If it is already set up, as I can see the external link rendering the icon for it, what is the abbreviation? It is not mw or smw. I think a reference page for these interwiki abbreviations would be a good addition to the main page's NIWA section (a small link at the top right would be helpful). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:11, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

User:Notmyhandle, does Special:Interwiki work for you? MarioWiki is the abbreviation. Also, the big boxes like that are generally only for partnerships as part of cross promotion, not for just niwa affiliates. -- Prod (talk) 16:39, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the link and clarification. Well, isn't NIWA meant to help us establish such cross promotion? Should I go over there as an ambassador and try to establish a similar box for them to link to us from their main pages? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:18, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Yea, for sure. If we can get an agreement to have extra links between each other, that would be cool. The issue is that some of the other NIWA wikis have their own walkthroughs, so they may not be as interested in interlinking deeply with us. -- Prod (talk) 19:41, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Extension:StringFunctions

Hi Prod, can you install Extension:StringFunctions for me? I want to be able to use {{#explode}}. Thanks, --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 00:58, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

"Most of these functions have been integrated into the ParserFunctions extension." Though it seems we'd have to activate it. I'm actually thinking of installingmw:Extension:Scribunto instead. -- Prod (talk) 04:49, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
It is not apparent as to how I would use that for #explode; I am sure Lua has a function in its library to do the same thing, but the best practice is to only install what we need; keep it minimal. So, if you want to install Scribunto for some reason that is fine. Just let me know here what actions you take. Thanks. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:33, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
I've been considering activating Lua for a while now, as it's supposed to have significant performance gains compared to normal templates (it's a real programming language). I didn't put too much emphasis on learning it since I haven't been doing templates recently. Maybe we can even disable the (slower) ParserFunctions extension eventually with this. -- Prod (talk) 04:49, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

ImageMagick error

Onderduiker uploaded File:KotOR Model Rancor.png, but instead of showing the image it shows:

Please delete the image if you don't need it to test. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:32, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

See also this glitch: File:KotOR Screenshot Black Vulkar Base.jpg. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:04, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
The first one looks like it was a corrupt image file and imagemagick couldn't thumbnail it it (even my browser wasn't showing the original file properly). The second one shows up fine in my browser, so maybe the image is supposed to look like that? Overall, it's most likely an issue with the network connection between the user and SW. -- Prod (talk) 15:49, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Rockman X: Cyber Mission

Hi Prod. I just started the guide for Rockman X: Cyber Mission. Somehow, on the main page the table of contents cannot be displayed correctly. If you open the TC page, it works. I can't find out what's wrong. Maybe a different eye can see what I couldn't. Thanks in advance. --Abacos (talk) 20:22, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

Fixed the problem. Don't abbreviate the Gamename with .. in TOC. You saw the result of that. Paco (talk) 21:21, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

Question about Sidebar?

I noticed your guys sidebar has an additional, section under tools for categories and it updates for which page and shows the table of contents for it. I was wondering how to do this for my Wiki. Sorry

Hey Prod, sorry about what I did and thanks for banning me for 24 hours talked to the creater of this website and me and him have known each other for 4 months now I told him everything I did and everything everyone else did as well and he wanted you to aploigize to me I will just tell him you did by texting him he said to call him if he needs to be back here or text him if everythings fine and stop messing with my edits you and Procyon and he wants me to take care of what belongs in the Wii U/3DS/Wii and Wii U VC/3DS VC/Wii VC and F-Zero Climax, needs to be changed to F-Zero: Climax lastly he wants you all to put Super Mario Bros. 2 a featured article since someone took it off the voting list. Thanks for listening and if you have any questions about this ask him yourself and he will tell you the same thing. -- RodKimble (talk) 19:18, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello Prod, I just wanted to say sorry for lying and saying I was going to have this website shut down please look in your heart to forgive me and this is last thing I'm going to say about the virtual console everyone is saying there backwards compatible with the Wii U console nothing about the virtual console is mentioned in this website that I was at I'm just asking if I can put a couple of those titles on the Wii U category please again look into your heart to allow me to do this change the only change I ask and the only reason I'm fighting for this change is if you met me I'm a big Nintendo fan I hope you will allow the change because I would like to stay on this wiki everyone on here is so nice but because so much problems with my family arguing at the time I wasn't thinking at the moment and just wanted to take it out on someone and shouldn't have taken it out on you or Procyon. Again hope you and Procyon will allow the change. :)

Creating Pages

How Do I Create Pages? Paul Young 65 (talk) 20:39, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Whatcha say, nigga? and other suspicious socks

This particular vandal, with talk privileges still enabled, is constantly filling his with trash (he left already, fortunately). Not to mention, FUCKING BULLSHIT logs in shortly after and does the same thing to his (again, he had just left, with his last trace being an obvious personal attack). I'm beginning to sense sockpuppetry lurking around, especially with the recent vandalism having occurred in a short span of time. MOST IMPORTANTLY, FUCKING BULLSHIT even clarified on his talk that all of the previous vandal accounts were his own.

Check to see if they happen to share similar IP addresses, and if so, I suggest you or Proycon do a range block, because this is just ridiculous. Drilly the Elfhog 23:18, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Updated their blocks so they can't edit their own pages either. -- Prod (talk) 00:58, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
What about the other vandals? Surely, they might just be sockpuppets. Inform Procyon to use CheckUser. Drilly the Elfhog 01:36, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Open-sourcing the Whale skin?

Hi Prod,
Given that the Whale skin is no longer StrategyWiki's default skin and appears to be unmaintained, judging by the fact that it has at least one JS issue (the sticky toolbox can't be toggled on/off), would you be willing to consider open-sourcing the Whale skin so that the wider MediaWiki community could take over the maintainership of it?
--Jack Phoenix (Contact) 11:18, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

I'm only ok with this if we get 100% sign-off from everyone who helped develop it, so that probably includes Teddy and Skizzerz along with Prod. Procyon 15:33, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm the one that told Jack to poke y'all to begin with about this :). I'm ok with it if everyone else is. Also hi. --Skizzerz 17:25, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night/Slogra & Gaibon

I think the page can be deleted: Akumaxx completed the rest of the guide in a different style. I think it can be safely set to stage 3, maybe even 4. --Abacos (talk) 22:31, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

  • To be honest, I have no idea how to fill in the "Getting Started" page. Need someone to follow so that it can go to stage 4. Akumaxx (talk) 02:13, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Template button hijinks

Hey sorry to bother you with this but I spotted something and wanted to doublecheck if it's right or not. I've been gone for a few months and don't know why this changed. The Guide-specific image category button generates text that looks off. An example of it in action is: Images for to Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Is it really supposed to say "images for to"? It's awkward.

Also thank you for all your work you have been putting into series stuff. If there is a cleanup thing you would prefer me focusing on then random behind daily tasks let me know. Go team cleanup project!--Zaiqukaj (talk) 04:05, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

My hero! I would have never figured out that template's page name in a million years. --Zaiqukaj (talk) 04:53, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
I am not making 2 separate discussions in a row. Thanks for the heads up. I've been sick this week and wouldn't have thought to take a closer look. The work so far looks great!--Zaiqukaj (talk) 04:41, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Category:Dragon Slayer

Hi Prod. The numbers in the Dragon Slayer series are part of the actual titles up to the 5th one, Sorcerian (even if the latter isn't clearly visible on the title screen); after that, the numbering is unofficial, but widely used around the web. And that's also the reason for the line break in the template.
Thanks for the icon template, but... the Template:Icon page lists "rd" for the Globe.svg "worldwide" icon; what should I do? ---Abacos (talk) 23:20, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Hello Prod! Thanks for all your help!

Btw, when you say to switch from "Title case" to "Sentence case", does that mean I should change the Chapter names or any of the sections listed under those Chapter names? I'm confused because, from what I can see, the Dragon Warrior II and III guides didn't follow that "sentence case" guideline either.

Anyway, thanks for helping me; and thanks for being so NICE about it too! You really do show a lot of grace in the way you point out my mistakes, and I truly do appreciate that! Thank you so much, and God bless you!

Changed DQVI Sections from Title to Sentence Case: Wanted Your Opinion on How it Looked

I ask because a lot of the section names actually WERE lifted straight from the game, so I'm worried that the ones that weren't lifted from it are going to clash with the ones that were. Thank you so much!

Megami Tensei

Hi Prod. I saw the {subpage} tab you added to the category. Indeed, all information about Shin Megami Tensei is already on its own page, while the categories Majin Tensei and Last Bible are empty for the moment; therefore, I'd leave the information about the latter two on the parent category page, for the time being. How about it? ---Abacos (talk) 15:25, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

If such detailed content is ready, might as well set up the category pages, even if the specific guides aren't ready. Hopefully, it'll prompt someone to start the guides. -- Prod (talk) 21:40, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Pokémon GO

Hello Prod, I just have a quick question if you don't mind answering. It says the genre for Pokémon GO is going to be Augmented reality and definitely doesn't play like a game? What should I put if you think it should stay or not?

I'm not sure where you got the impression that it doesn't play like a game, but it most certainly is. I think Augmented reality is more a feature of the game, than a genre. I would probably classify the genre as Adventure. But we should definitely start a guide for the game, it was just released in the US. Procyon 02:15, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
If you say Procyon will keep it up, sorry I don't mean to sound rude it's just I recently downloaded the game and been playing with friends and doesn't necessarily have a story or plot and you don't do a lot to have a guide for the game if you ask me, will keep it up. -- RKimble (talk) 04:02, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
I think there's enough "gameplay" to cover a very basic guide, and we should cover things like how the game starts, where to encounter certain types of pokemon (nocturnal/water), how gyms work, and a pokedex. It may not be a very big guide, but I think there's enough to cover. -- Prod (talk) 12:05, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Fire Emblem Fates infobox

Hey! I was going to start trying to do some Fire Emblem Fates chapter pages and was going to base the infobox of of Template:Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones/Infobox but I'm not there if there's anywhere I could find a decent quality picture of the map for each chapter and each difficulty. Could it be left blank until an image could be found? Lukey140701 (talk) 23:40, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

And here is the finished infobox: Template:Fire Emblem Fates/Infobox‎, although, needless to say, feel free to make any alterations you feel are necessary. Lukey140701 (talk) 23:56, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

I also just remembered that some chapters can have two bosses or no bosses at all, and even then boss stats also differ between difficulty. I'm thinking a separate section of the infobox or even another infobox would be the best way to handle this. Lukey140701 (talk) 00:02, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

You could make a template out of just the boss part, and include that as many times in the bigger template as you need. -- Prod (talk) 00:48, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Alright then. I'll start uploading character portraits and go check other images to see what categories are needed. Lukey140701 (talk) 01:22, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Are the seven sprites I've uploaded now alright? I just spent the last two hours cropping them down from a sprite sheet. :P Lukey140701 (talk) 19:24, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
The guide-specific images category is the most import, which looks like you have included. They should all probably go in Category:Sprites as well, but that's not as important. -- Prod (talk) 19:32, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

The 'The's

Thanks for adding the 'The's back to the territory names in Pikmin. I knew they were used in-game but figured it would be less trouble to keep the pages as they were named already. CS criteria

Got your message and bumped the cs for Jak II to 2. But the criteria are listed in two different places and the versions aren't really consistent. If I went by what's listed here then Jak II would probably get a 3, but going by what's listed here it's probably only a 2. The category pages themselves list criteria which may or may not be consistent with the other two. For example in the CS 4 category page it says something about screenshots, but that's not mentioned in the other two places. It would be easier if it was clearly marked which version is to be considered definitive and which are just summarisations for convenience.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes/Sky Temple Grounds

I noticed you linked this page into the table of contents, but I'm doubtful whether this material belongs in the guide. It seems to be covering the same thing as Metroid Prime 2: Echoes/Super Missile#Sky Temple Grounds, except the bit about the atmosphere is covered earlier. I was thinking just turn the page into a redirect. In the mean time, there's another orphaned page there that needs to be added, but I'll go ahead and to that.--Zuke (talk) 16:02, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Formatting and Controls-Section

Quite new to this and thought, this wiki is in need of a Dark Souls III-guide. Since you are the first to edit, I direct my questions towards you. 1) You added control to the "table of contents", could I just copy the paragraph from the "getting started"-section or should I expand a little more? 2) I chose the other format, because this could becomee quite long. At what length should I change the format? 3) Where's the page that explains how to implement pictures? (also: can I add screenshots I took myself?) Thanks in advance. :) Jesthor (talk) 16:14, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
