Valkyrie no Densetsu/Stage 1

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

Welcome to the game. Once Valkyrie and Kurino Sandra appear on that cloud in the centre of the screen, they shall approach the female angel standing before them - who will speak that Hiragana text of Shiawase wo unda ō go n no tane ga ima ha hito bito wo kurushimete imasu dō ga, Anata-tachi nochi karade chijōwosukutteikudasai (しあわせをうんだおおごんのたねがいまはひとびとをくるしめていますどうが, あなたたちのちからでちじょうをすくっていください) to them before they proceed to walk around her then jump off their respective sides of the cloud, descending several thousand feet to the ground below.

Once Valkyrie and Sandra have landed on the ground, start walking forward by pushing your joystick into the "north" position as nine Brown Tatta come walking towards you while throwing their boomerangs at you; once you have fired a shot from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them, they will leave a small coin (worth five in gold) behind. Once you have collected them all, three Brown Fly Drills will come flying towards you in a curved line from the left side of the screen - and once you've fired a shot from your sword or trident at each of these, to kill them, they will also leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them all, jump onto the first lily pad in the swamp and fire a shot from your sword or trident at a Kamaelman that is jumping out of the swamp to stick its fist-like tongue out at you on the left side of the screen (which will not leave anything behind when killed), then jump up onto the second lily pad in the swamp, and fire a shot from your sword or trident at a second Kamaelman that is jumping out of the swamp on the right side of the screen (which will, like the first one, not leave anything behind when killed); you must then jump onto that third lily pad in the swamp and fire a shot from your sword or trident at a third Kamaelman that is jumping out of it on the left side of the screen (which will, once again, not leave anything behind when killed), then jump up onto the fourth and final lily pad in the swamp and fire a shot at each of three more Brown Fly Drills that are flying towards you in a curved line from the right side of the screen. As with the first three, they will each leave a small coin behind when killed, so you will have to drop into the swamp and swim around it for a while if you wish to retrieve them while watching out for Sorchikis (which will also leave a small coin behind when killed) emerging from the bottom of it if you wallow in it for too long - and once you have collected them all jump out of the swamp to land onn another platform and continue walking forward until you come to a Red Demon whipping a tied-up young woman with a strap. Once he has seen Valkyrie and Sandra he will stop whipping her, then speak the Hiragana text Gojōnagakida. Tane ha dokoda? Omae-ra ha nandajamasuruyatsuhayōshashinaizo. (ごじょうながきだ. たねはどこだ? おまえらはなんだじゃまするやつはようしゃしないぞ) to them, kick that tied-up young woman off the left side of the screen, then generate seven copies of himself, around Valkyrie and Sandra; once they have fully materialized, all eight Red Demons will dance around Valkyrie and Sandra in an anticlockwise direction while spitting fireballs at them. Once you've fired enough shots from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them (as with the Kamaelmen, they'll not leave anything behind) walk to the left by pushing the joystick into the "west" position and jump over the edge of the platform to land on a third platform on which the tied-up young woman is lying unconscious - and as you push your Firing Button to speak to her she will come to and speak the Hiragana text of Arigatō! Onē-chan wo uchi ni kite! (ありがとう! おねえちゃんおうちにきて!) to Valkyrie and Sandra, and skip to the left over the swamp, creating a bridge for you to cross as she does so. Once she has reached a fourth platform on the other side of that swamp, she'll disappear into a small hut; you will have the option to follow her in (it is not customary for you, but it will help Valkyrie and Sandra for the remainder of their stage).

Once Valkyrie and Sandra have reappeared inside the hut, the young woman will be nowhere in sight, but a slightly older woman will be standing in front of them; she'll speak the Hiragana text of Māmā nanto rei wo ittei yoiga. O rei ni hikari noken wo sashiagemasu mura hazure no baba-sama wo tasukete kudasai. (まーまーなんとれいをいっていよいが. おれいにひかりのけんをさしあげますむらはずれのばばさまをたすけてください.) to them, before granting them a more powerful shot for their sword and trident. Valkyrie and Sandra will then proceed to exit the hut, and reappear outside it once the stage proper has resumed - and you will have to continue walking to the left by pushing the joystick into the "west" position, as ten Green Goblins emerge from the ground and start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you. Once you have fired a shot from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them, they will leave one small coin behind; once you have collected them all, five Brown Tolento will come running towards you with their tentacles waving around. Once you have fired a shot from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them, they will also leave a small coin behind - and once you have collected them all, you will have the opportunity to enter another hut which looks very similar to that first one from earlier on in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Once Valkyrie and Sandra have reappeared inside the hut, the elderly sorcerer of Babasama will be standing in front of them; he will speak the Hiragana text Yō koko made kite kureta omae koso shin no yū shada ko nochi ni tsutawaru daidai no ma hō bun shin nojutsuwosazukeyō. (ようここまできてくれたおまえこそしんのゆうしゃだこのちにつたわるだいだいのまほうぶんしんのじゅつをさずけよう.) to them, before granting to them the Option spell and four "magic bubbles" on their magic meters (this spell is worth half a bubble). Valkyrie and Sandra will then proceed to exit the hut, then reappear outside it once that stage proper has resumed - and you will have to continue walking forward by pushing the joystick into the "northern" position as two more Green Goblins emerge from the ground, then start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you. Once you have fired a shot from your sword or trident at both of these, to kill them, they will leave a small coin behind; once you have collected them both, two Small Rocks and two Logs will come bouncing towards you. Once you fire enough shots from your sword or trident at each of these, to kill them, they will each leave a large coin (worth twenty in gold) behind - and once you have collected them all, you will come to a "magic bubble tree", on the left side of the screen. Once you have fired enough shots from your sword or trident at the tree, to destroy it, it'll leave five small "magic bubbles" behind (which are worth half a bubble on your magic meter); once you have collected them all, two more Small Rocks will come bouncing towards you. Once you have fired enough shots from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them, they will leave a large coin behind - and once you have collected them both, you will come to the travelling salesman Zoul, on the left side of the screen. When one player walks up to him and enters his realm, the other one will automatically be drawn in as well, regardless of current positioning.

Once Valkyrie and Sandra have reappeared in Zoul's realm, he will speak the Hiragana text Irasshaimase. (いらっしゃいませ.) to them before proceeding to ask that first player to choose between: a Wide Beam (shield) for 50 in gold, a Homing Shot (crossbow) for 100 in gold, and a 3-Way Shot (sceptre) for 150 in gold; you must push the joystick into the "north-western" position to select that first item, the "northern" position to select that second item and the "north-eastern" position to select the third item, then press the Firing Button to confirm your choice. Once Valkyrie has paid Zoul for her chosen item, he will ask the second player to choose between those two remaining items - and you cannot push the joystick into the position of the absent item. Once Sandra has paid Zoul for his chosen item, both he and Valkyrie shall exit Zoul's realm if they hadn't done it voluntarily, and reappear in the stage proper.

Once Valkyrie and Sandra have reappeared in the stage proper, you will notice that the song you are hearing from the Yamaha YM-2151 has changed; so continue walking forward by pushing the joystick into the "northern" position as three Large Rocks come bouncing towards you. Once you have fired enough Wide, Homing or 3-Way shots from your sword (or trident) at each of these to kill them, they will each leave a large coin behind - and once you have collected them all, three more Brown Fly Drills will come flying towards you in a curved line from the left side of the screen. Once you have fired a Wide, Homing or 3-Way shot from your sword or trident at each of these, to kill them, they will each leave a small coin behind; once you have collected them all, three more Green Goblins will emerge from the ground, then start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you. Once you've fired a Wide, Homing or 3-Way shot from your sword or trident at each of them, to kill them, they'll each leave a small coin behind - and once you collect them all, two more Brown Tatta will come walking towards you, while throwing their boomerangs at you. Once you have fired a Wide, Homing or 3-Way shot from your sword or trident at both of these to kill them, they will both leave one small coin behind; once you have collected them both, two more Green Goblins will emerge from the ground, and start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you. Once you have fired a Wide, Homing, or 3-Way shot from your sword or trident at both of them to kill them, they will both leave a small coin behind - and once you have collected them both, two more Brown Tatta will come walking towards you while throwing their boomerangs at you. Once you've fired a Wide, Homing or 3-Way shot from your sword or trident at both of them to kill them, they'll both leave a small coin behind; once you've collected them both, you will have to jump up to a static round platform in mid-air and fire a shot at a tenth Brown Fly Drill that is flying back and forth in the centre of the screen. As with the other nine, it will leave a small coin behind when killed but you will have to be quick to collect it before it falls over the edge of the platform - and once you have collected it, you will have to jump onto another static platform in mid-air before timing a jump onto a third horizontally-moving round platform in mid-air. Once you have done so, you'll have to jump onto a fourth static round platform in mid-air before timing a jump onto a fifth horizontally-moving platform in mid-air; once you have done so you have to fire a shot at an eleventh Brown Fly Drill that's flying back and forth in the centre of the screen. Like the other ten, it will leave a small coin behind when killed, but you will (again) have to be quick to collect it before it falls over the edge of the platform - and once you have collected it, you'll have to jump onto a sixth static oval-shaped platform in mid-air, before jumping onto a seventh static round platform in mid-air with a red chest (containing a randomly-generated amount of gold) on it. Once you have opened that chest, you will have to jump onto an eighth static round platform in mid-air before jumping up to a ninth horizontally-moving round platform (in mid-air); once you have done so, you will have to fire a shot at a twelfth Brown Fly Drill that is flying back and forth in the centre of the screen. As with the other eleven, it will leave a small coin behind when killed, but you once again have to be quick to collect it before it falls over the edge of the platform - and once you have collected it, you will have to jump onto an eleventh static round platform in mid-air with a green chest (containing a 3-Way Shot) on it. Once you've opened that chest and collected that sceptre, you'll have to jump onto a twelfth vertically-moving round platform in mid-air before jumping onto a thirteenth static round platform in mid-air; once you have done so, you will have to jump onto a fourteenth static round platform (in mid-air), before jumping onto a fifth solid platform. You will then have to continue walking forward by pushing the joystick into the "north" position until you come to two more "magic bubble trees" on the left and right sides of the screen - and as with that first one, once you've fired enough 3-Way shots from your sword or trident at both of them to destroy them, they will both leave five small "magic bubbles" behind. Once you have collected them all, two more Brown Tatta will come walking towards you, while throwing their boomerangs at you; once you have fired a 3-Way shot from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them, they will both leave a small coin behind. Once you've collected them both, you'll come to a clock tower (which looks like a smaller version of the Great Westminster Clock, and says 2:52) with eight more Brown Fly Drills flying around it, in an anticlockwise direction - and once you have fired a 3-Way shot from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them they'll each leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them all, the double doors at the bottom of the clock tower will open and Valkyrie and Sandra will enter it for their first boss encounter as the changed song that you'd been hearing from the Yamaha YM-2151 fades out.

Once Valkyrie and Sandra have reappeared inside the clock tower, the "boss" theme will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 as Twin Girasu starts walking up towards them; it will attack by curling up its left head into a fist-like ball and punching out at Valkyrie and Sandra with it while spitting lightning bolts at them from its right head. Once you've fired enough 3-Way shots from your sword (or trident) at it, to kill it, it will leave ten small coins behind - and once you've collected them all, the screen will fade out and you will receive a 20000-point bonus (and 200 in gold) for clearing the stage, along with the restoration of a full life-heart (or, if you still have 4.5 life-hearts, half of one) on your energy meter if you were unlucky enough to get hit, and if this brings your energy back up to more than 0.5 or 1.5 life-hearts, it is reflected by your character's face at the bottom of the screen improving.

ふたりは おうごんのたねを (Futari ha o u go n no tane wo)

たすけだされた かぜのせいが (Tasukedasa reta kaze no sei ga)

それが このちを すくう (Sore ga ko nochi wo sukū)

Once the screen has faded back in the floor of the clock tower will collapse under the feet of Valkyrie and Sandra as they fall several thousand feet to the second stage, Honō no Daichi (which means "Land of Fire"); if they can find Babasama for the second time, he will grant them the Cyclone spell. Also, if all the green sand in both hourglasses at the bottom of the screen should fall into their lower chambers during any stage (when this is close to happening, a warning sound shall be heard from the C140), Valkyrie and Sandra shall automatically lose a full life-heart as the hourglasses are reset and the warning sound stops - and this means that if either of them only has one life-heart (or even half of one) remaining, it will cost them the game.
