Scenario
Like the stinging of a wasp, the attacks from the humans grow more and more bothersome. You have been assigned to a small outpost on the Borderlands of the Swamps of Sorrow. You are to defend our lands from the incursions of these ravenous dogs by crushing any opposition that you encounter.

  • Footman (11)
  • Archer (9)

  • Spear Strength

Move your Peon to the north to mine from the nearest Gold Mine, and select your Town Hall to train another to build a second Farm, allowing you to train at least one or two more: split them between mining Gold and harvesting Lumber to the north until you can build a Barracks and a Lumber Mill, then prioritize mining Gold.

Humans start attacking before you get this far, but they only approach one at a time every few minutes: since you're in the midst of the north Borderlands, select your two Grunts and your Spearman and move them to the south side of your Town Hall, and make sure your Grunts are positioned between your Spearman and any approaching Human. After each Human attack, quickly move a Spearman around the periphery to increase the range at which you can detect them on the mini map.

Once one of your Peons has built a Lumber Mill, you can train Spearmen at a Barracks: train at least one or two to reinforce your existing units, then select the Lumber Mill to upgrade their Spear Strength (twice). If you keep all units close to the Town Hall and expand your awareness range on the mini map then this mobile force might be all you need to defend the Borderlands. However, building a third Farm and training a second group of four Spearmen should allow you to relax more: move one group to the southwest corner of your town, and the other to the southeast.

A second group also allows you to be more proactive, searching and destroying while the other defends your town. Although Spearmen cost 50 Gold (and 50 Lumber) more than Grunts, a group of four with fully upgraded Spear Strength should easily destroy a Footman before he gets into attack range; and while they have shorter range than Archers, a Grunt's higher Armor gives him no advantage against them. As you search with a Spearman, the next Gold Mine you find should be that to the southeast: after the first couple of Archers approach your town, this should prompt you to start searching to the north and east with your entire southeast group to make it secure, while that to the southwest continues to defend your town.

The Humans attack in the following order:

Order Unit Starting location Approach
1 Footman West of SE Gold Mine South(east)
2 Footman NE of Town Hall East
3 Footman NE of SE Gold Mine South(east)
4 Footman West of Town Hall West
5 Footman East of NW Gold Mine Northwest
6 Footman Southwest Gold Mine South
7 Footman West of south Gold Mine South(east)
8 Footman East of south Gold Mine South(east)
9 Footman Southeast of Town Hall Southeast
10 Archer Southeast of Town Hall Southeast
Order Unit Starting location Approach
11 Archer East of south Gold Mine South(east)
12 Archer West of south Gold Mine South
13 Archer Southwest Gold Mine (South)west
14 Archer West of south Gold Mine South
15 Archer East of NW Gold Mine Northwest
16 Archer Northeast of Town Hall East
17 Archer NE of SE Gold Mine Southeast
18 Archer West of Town Hall West
19 Footman East of NW Gold Mine Northwest
20 Footman West of south Gold Mine South(east)

Destroy them all!
