Warp & Warp is a multi-directional shooter arcade game which was released by Namco in 1981, and it was licensed to Rock-Ola for US manufacture and distribution as Warp Warp; it was the final game from the company to use an Intel 8080 processor (running at 2.048 MHz), but was also the first game from them to display its year on its title screen instead of its starting screen (their only game released after it which displayed its year on the start screen was Genpei Tōma Den). It was also later ported to the MSX in 1984, and updated for the Japanese Famicom in 1985 under the name of Warpman - and this updated version allowed two players to play simultaneously and introduced several new features.
The player must use a four-way joystick and a single button to take control of a "Monster Fighter" who must initially shoot tongue-sticking aliens named "Berobero" in the "Space World" without letting them touch him; if he should kill three consecutive Berobero of the same colour (for they will change colour from yellow to orange to red as they get closer to the warp zone), a mystery alien will appear that can be killed for extra points (before he reaches the edge of the screen that he is moving towards). When the warp zone in the centre of the screen flashes (with the Katakana text Wāpu ワープ for the original Namco version, or the English text "WARP" for both Rock-Ola licensed versions), it is possible for the Monster Fighter to warp to the "Maze World", where he must kill the Berobero with time-delay bombs - and the delay's controlled by how long the player holds the button down (however, it's also possible for the Monster Fighter to blow himself up if he gets caught in an explosion of one of his own bombs).
