Explore castles and defeat enemies to find treasure, use this money to buy tools and hire mercenaries. As your army grows, you will find it easier to defeat enemies, but more expensive to keep going in terms of food and equipment.
When your army is large enough (probably around 80 people) attack the castle and hope for the best!
Tip: The Oracle will appear during gameplay. Go to where it was (it disappears but remains in that place) to get free gifts to use in your quest!
