Yamato is a first-person shooter arcade game that was released by Sega in 1983; it utilizes two Zilog Z80 processors (running up at 3.072 MHz), with two General Instrument AY-3-8910s running at 1.536 MHz for sound. The player must use an eight-way joystick to direct one enormous battleship (which is the eponymous "Yamato", and in real life was sunk off Kyūshū during the Second World War) left and right across the bottom of the screen, as well as its air and ground crosshairs around the whole of the screen - and the game also uses two buttons as a result of the two crosshairs (the first to fire missiles at the enemy aeroplanes, as they are flying across the top of the screen, and the second to fire depth charges at the enemy submarines and battleships as they're sailing across the bottom of the screen). Every time you destroy an enemy aeroplane, submarine, or battleship, a miniaturized version of them will appear in one of the three rows at the top of the screen; once you have destroyed ten of one type of enemy craft, a star will appear above the three rows. The point values to the right of the three rows indicate when the next stars will be awarded - and if the Yamato gets hit by an enemy bomb or depth charge, it will sink to the bottom of the ocean (just like it did in real life, forty years prior to this game's release) and lose a life. Once it runs out of lives (it starts with three by default) the game will be over.
