Weapons can be strengthen with 
Cleria Ore, one level per piece. When playing as Yunica or Hugo, the ore needs to be given to Rico on the first floor, who will temper the weapon. For Toal, he will automatically drain the energy of the ore into his claws. Armor and boots can be strengthen at any Goddess/demon statue by spending SP. Each piece can only be strengthened once for an additional DEF +1.
