Welcome to the game. Once Batman has appeared on the screen you shall have to start walking to the right (you shall receive one point for every metre he travels in that direction), as a green-jacketed thug comes walking towards him; once you have punched him to kill him (for 1440 points), you will have to continue walking to the right and jump up to a metal veranda with another green-jacketed thug on it. Once you have punched him to kill him, you shall have to drop back down to the ground, continue walking to the right and jump up to the roof of a pawn shop (which has a third green-jacketed thug on it) - and once you have punched him to kill him, you will have to collect a Bat-Symbol for an extra hit (you will also receive twenty-four extra seconds for it).

You'll then have to walk off the roof, and drop down on a fourth green-jacketed thug to kill him; once you have done so, you will have to continue walking to the right as a fifth green-jacketed thug emerges from the door on the ground floor of a building. Once you have punched him to kill him, a bald gunner will look out of the building's window to fire a shot at Batman - and once you've punched him to kill him (if you strike him before he has a chance to draw his gun, he is worth 300 points, but after drawing it, he is not worth any), you must continue walking to the right to receive eighteen more extra seconds.

Two more green-jacketed thugs will now emerge from the two doors on the ground floor of a Gotham Power Co. building; once you've punched both of them to kill them you'll have to jump up to its roof, which has a brown-jacketed thug on it. Once you have punched him to kill him, you will have to jump back down to the ground and jump up the left side of a six-step staircase as a second brown-jacketed thug comes walking towards you - and once you have punched him to kill him, you shall have to drop down the right side of the staircase as an eighth green-jacketed thug comes walking towards you. Once you have punched him to kill him, a ninth green-jacketed thug will emerge from a door on the ground floor of a guns and ammunition shop; once you've punched him to kill him, you'll have to jump up to another metal veranda (which has a third brown-jacketed thug on it). Once you have punched him to kill him, another bald gunner will look out of the first-floor window, to fire a shot at Batman - and once you have punched him to kill him, you will have to jump over the right side of that railing to collect another Bat-Symbol for another extra hit, landing on the ground. You will now have to continue walking to the right towards the Batmobile (which marks the end of the stage) - and once Batman has reached it, he shall state Shields open. from the MSM-6295 as he unlocks it, gets in and drives off the right side of the screen for a 2500-point bonus. The game will now proceed to the second stage.

Note: The timer still goes while Batman unlocks, gets into, and drives off in the Batmobile, so if it runs out while he is doing so, he will immediately die.
