The Awakening[edit]

You will wake up in Bunyan's house, who will tell you that he found you alone and wounded in the woods. The woodcutter will have no idea where Rei and Teepo are: they might as well be dead. Ryu then decides to travel to Wyndia, to look for them. Exit Cedar Woods. If you re-enter immediately afterwards, Bunyan will offer to become your Master: accept if he intends to develop Ryu physically. Then head to McNeil village to stock up on healing items and fully upgrade your gear if you haven't already. You will notice that now that Rei and Teepo are gone, the villagers have started treating you well again. You can also stop and fish. After that, head east of the Yraal Road, to Mount Myrneg.

Mt. Myrneg[edit]

Treasure to find
  • Icicle
  • Protein
  • Bat Amulet
  • 200 zenny

The enemies in this area are not very tough, but you will have to fight alone. Near the entrance you will meet a friendly Tarman who will tell you about the weaknesses of the enemies. Ignore his request and if you encounter Tarmans in combat, freeze them with the Frost spell to take them down easily. The best way to eliminate Nut Troops is to use fire element spells instead, as these enemies are difficult to hit with physical attacks. You can also learn the useful Double Blow skill from them.

Climb the mountain by exploring all the trails well to discover some hidden treasures. There are easily recognizable spots where you can jump to reach the lower level. When you are at the top of the mountain you will meet again Balio and Sunder, who will hurt you. However, Ryu will still transform into a dragon. The two rascals will then decide to lock you in a cage and show off to the King of Wyndia, thinking they can make a lot of money with you.

Castle Wyndia[edit]

Treasure to find
  • Skill Ink

You will be taken to Wyndia Castle, in the presence of the king. When Balio and Sunder discover the cage, however, Ryu will have resumed his normal appearance. The king will then take you for charlatans and have you all locked up in prison. In the cell, you will be joined by Princess Nina, who intends to free you. Balio and Sunder, however, convince her to open the door of their cell. The two will thus be able to escape, kidnapping the princess. Examine the cell door twice to be able to break it down (calling the guard is useless). Collect the Skill Ink from the next cell and save your game. Then, go down the stairs. You will have to face Balio and Sunder in combat but, again, you will not be able to win. However, by transforming yourself into a dragon, it is possible to make them escape. The two criminals will escape anyway and if you are knocked out you will then be rescued by Nina, who will join you. The only way out is through the catacombs, so go down the stairs.

In the Catacombs[edit]

Treasure to find
  • Panacea
  • Glass Domino
  • Light Bangle
  • Wisdom Fruit

As you move through the catacombs you will have to face random battles. Nina will help you with her attack spells, but be careful to always keep her HP at maximum, as Nina is very weak physically. Spread around the catacombs, you will find many tombstones. Seven of them have inscriptions, with a red and a green word. Below is the list of words:

  • Green words: above – outside – secrets – that – green – you – not
  • Red words: beneath – climbing – look – this – red – I – is

These raised words can be pushed. To get out of the catacombs you will have to remember all the red ones, while to get a treasure, you will have to press all the green ones. If you press the words written in red, you will fall into an underground cave, from which you can exit via a ladder. It is best to do this at least once, in order to get a Glass Domino after climbing. There is also a Panacea in this area. After pressing all the green words, go to the large tombstone on the left and press the switch to get a Light Bangle. Then head to a tombstone that is on raised ground. Here you will have to press, one after the other, all the red words you have read previously. If you do everything right, you will fall into a small room. Take a few steps to fall again, into a cemetery. From here you can finally go out into the city, but behind a tombstone you can first collect a very rare Wisdom Fruit.

Wyndia[edit]

Treasure to find
  • Healing Herb
  • Ammonia
  • Moxa
  • Bread (x4)
  • Ginseng

In the city you will be free to explore the buildings (collecting the objects that you will find in the various cabinets) and to talk to the inhabitants. You can also stock up on healing items and upgrade your gear, but it's a good idea to wait, as you will soon be able to do so at cheaper prices. After exploring the city, talk to the children playing in the lower square. The children will challenge you to hide and seek and you will have to find them all. They are all hidden nearby, rotate the camera to find them more easily. When you find them, they will tell you that they saw a child, which could be Teepo, flee on Eygnock Road to the south. Then leave the city.

Before reaching the Eygnock Road, however, follow the path north that reaches the city walls. You will come to a small area where you can find a Ginseng. Back on the wold map, take the path along the city wall. At the end, you will find a small hut, where Master Durandal lives. It is advisable to have Nina study with him immediately, in order to learn the skills he teaches later and unlock a new Master. Under the hut you will also notice a mysterious machinery. You'll find out what it's all about later in the game. Then, head south, to the Eygnock Road.

Eygnock Road[edit]

Treasure to find
  • Clothing

Not much to do here. Enter the small house that you will find along the road. As you enter, you will hear Nina scream. Collect the Clothing that you will find in the closet and exit, to find that she was captured by Balio and Sunder again. The two gangsters will take you as prisoners to the city of Arena.
