In multiplayer, you need three things: confidence, skill and the right class setup.

Confidence[edit]

To be confident and succeed you need to show intelligence—rushing right into enemy fire is going to seriously damage your k/d ratio, if you care about that. First tip, don't make obvious movements. Try and move after every kill, otherwise you will die. Second, don't set your killstreaks where you can't get them. It's not only you that benefits from them, your team does as well. Last of all, show your team respect and use the right guns for the right job.

Skill[edit]

The only way you are going to get skillful is by practicing. Try different weapons but don't be scared to stick with a weapon you're good with. If it's working alone you want to get good at, play Free For All. If it's working in a team, play Search and Destroy or Demolition. In Black Ops there is a feature called combat training. Combat training puts you against the computer and is a great way to improve accuracy, different movements and different useful positions on different maps, if you like camping.
